EGUSIN SLH® and EGUSIN 250® by Centaur Animal Health

EGUSIN SLH® and EGUSIN 250® can make a real difference to YOUR horse's digestive health!

About Centaur Animal Health

Since it was founded in 1986, Centaur Animal Health business focus has been concentrated in adaptations of proven new technology -- with special emphasis in biotechnology -- converting successes from the human healthcare market to help similar problems in the animal health markets. Centaur’s first products  were concentrated in the equine market, and focused on diagnostic technologies that were representative of ‘breakthrough innovations’.  One such product is the Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) diagnostic that was adapted from the human AIDS test and for which a patent was granted in 1995.

Centaur Animal Health and United Agriculture and Veterinary Products, Inc. (Unavet) were two separate Kansas City based animal health businesses that have been operational since the mid 1980’s.  Both companies had been engaged in sales activity in separate but complimentary segments of the animal health market.  The merging of the two existing companies in 2001 provided efficiencies and growth opportunities available that would not have been available to either company individually.

Does Your Horse Have The Digestive Support Necessary To Maintain Top Health And Feed Utilization?
The digestive tract has often been referred to as the "engine" of the horse. It is the engine that supplies the power-- without an effective and well operating engine, you just won't go anywhere-- and it works very similarly with your horse.

About EGUSIN SLH® and EGUSIN 250®
E
GUSIN SLH® and EGUSIN 25 are natural feed supplements which have been demonstrated to be beneficial in promoting a healthy stomach and an aid in preventing the destruction of the stomach lining. EGUSIN® is not a pharmacological solution that might interfere with normal gastrointestinal function. EGUSIN® is a combination of ingredients that collectively work together to return the stomach to normal function.

What Is Egusin® SLH?
Egusin SLH is a powdered combination of natural ingredients that has been demonstrated to be beneficial in addressing the primary causes of equine gastro-intestinal disturbances

What Is Egusin® 250?

Egusin 250 is an alfalfa pellet based formulation of natural ingredients that has been demonstrated to be beneficial in promoting a healthy stomach and intestinal environment to avoid recurring gastro-intestinal disturbances in horses

What Is The Egusin® Concept?
Egusin consists of two types of stabilizing dietetic feed supplements for adult horses, young horses and foals suffering from EGUS, stress periods and an imbalance in the intestinal system due to a high production of excess gastric acid.

The Egusin concept is based on a unique combination of active nutraceuticals, neutralizing excess gastric acid, protects the stomach lining and preventing the formation of “stress stomach” and stress related colic and diarrhea conditions.

What Does The Egusin Concept Include?
The Egusin concept consists of two types of stabilizing dietetic feed supplement:

* Egusin SLH- used as the first dietetic feed when “stress stomach” is observed.
* Egusin 250- used as a “second follow diet” to maintain proper stomach function

Why Do We Use Whole Oat Groats?

Whole oat groats functional value
:

  •   Beneficial dietetic fibers and nutritional components
  •   Beta-glucan- gels in the stomach, acting as a coating for the stomach lining.
  •   Insoluble oats fibers- delay the stomach emptying which aids in preventing gastrointestinal disorders.
  •   Polar lipids- rich phospholipids aid in re-establishing the stomach lining.
  •   Natural antioxidants- aid in protecting the muscle cells from degradation by the free radicals.

How Does Egusin Work?
Antacids neutralize excess corrosive gastric acid to protect the stomach lining against destruction. Lecithin, a phospholipid, restores damaged cell membranes. Pectin acts as a barrier under which the gastric mucosa membranes are allowed to heal. Natural antioxidants protect the cells from destructive free radicals.

Micro-milled whole oats also interact with stomach acid forming a gel to augment the protective barrier provide by Pectin. The oat fibers also delay gastric emptying so acid has something to act on besides the lining, and act as a substrate to carry away toxins and bacteria. EGUSIN® may be administered 3-5 days before, through, and during the return from an event to assure the stomach maintains normal function.

What If My Horse Has Ulcers Or Other Serious Issues?
If there is acute stomach distress, try one bucket of EGUSIN SLH® sufficient for 21 days, then rotate over to the EGUSIN 250®, to maintain the health. If a horse resumes normal foraging, EGUSIN®, may be discontinued. Some customers have reported the need to resume use possibly due to the long standing effects of chronic stomach lesions. EGUSIN SLH® and EGUSIN 250® do more, work faster, and cost considerably less, than other products.

What Do Horse Owners SAY About Egusin?

  • My 13 yr. old TB gelding just finished his second week on Egusin SLH, and the product is already living up to and exceeding expectations.  My horse had been subjected to many acute and chronic stressors that are known to cause ulcers (i.e. extended periods of stall confinement/lack of adequate for several years, a recent move to a new farm, and then a 6-8 week bout of rapid weight loss from an insufficient feeding regimen).  In addition to these stressors, he displayed many signs of ulcers – watery stools, rapid weight loss, ferociously devouring food, dullness/lethargy, and extreme spookiness.  After just two weeks on Egusin SLH, my horse has experienced remarkable improvements: his stools are normal/not watery for the first time in the 5+ years I've owned him, his weight has stabilized and during the second week he even starting putting on some much needed weight, he no longer "inhales" food as if he'll never eat again, he is perky and alert and I once again have to keep up with his walk instead of pulling him to keep up with me, he has a happy/peaceful twinkle in his eye instead of looking troubled/wary, and he is much less spooky/jumpy.  Needless to say, it's a huge relief to see him so happy and well, and Egusin will certainly be a staple in his diet going forward.
  • My 5 year old colt had loose manure problems since he was a yearling. In addition to diarrhea he would often shoot out a liquid, watery manure.  Needless to say it was a messy, frustrating situation. He seemed uncomfortable and his attitude was often cranky. He didn't like to be touched or brushed like other horses.  I have tried many over the counter products-  the list is long. The local vets thought it might be sand but I changed his environment and put him on an aggressive psillium program. No change. I adjusted his diet in many different way-  hay, supplements, grains, more pasture, less pasture, etc. No change. The only time he got completely better was when he was living on a 100% complete feed program while he was being started by a trainer. But I wanted to feed him grass hay and pasture and assimilate him in with my other horses. I was about to bite the bullet and have him scoped for an ulcer and start the expensive program associated with that when my farrier suggested I try Egusin. She had heard good things on the endurance horse circuit.
  • For those of you interested, my exrace TB with fore and hind gut ulcers is much, much improved. He was hard to touch anywhere other than on his head. He would look very uncomfortable, swish his tail and try to get away. Put under pressure in front of the stifle area he would lash out upon palpating this area. His back was extremely sore to the touch and he would flinch, ripple and sink under pressure.

13 days into full treatment he is a different horse. Back is perfect, stroking on the neck and shoulders is now not having any response other than positive although he is I think surprised and coming to terms with it being enjoyable. He only swishes his tail when you start to go back towards the area of stomach in front of the stifle. A very positive result. Looking forward to completing the course and seeing where we are in a weeks time.
