Why Choose EndurExtra®?

EndurExtra was specifically developed for horses that need more than a diet of hay and grain can provide. EndurExtra’s special blend of ingredients supports a hearty appetite, a desirable body weight, a robust immune system, and healthy muscle function. EndurExtra’s concentrated blend of readily digestible fats is supplemented at the low rate of eight ounces per day.

What Makes EndurExtra Different?
EndurExtra provides a combination of ingredients that support several critical systems in your horse: the digestive tract, immune system, and neuromuscular system. By supplementing with EndurExtra you are taking a multi-pronged approach to maintaining your horse’s overall well-being and optimizing performance.

Developed Specifically To Support Weight Gain and Maintenance
All horse owners have struggled to keep weight on a hard keeper, and many have had that individual that won’t clean up his feed. Almost every barn or stable has a horse that is losing weight due to an intense workload, seasonal temperatures, illness or aging. EndurExtra was scientifically formulated to meet the needs of the horses and ponies who need more than just hay and grain.

EndurExtra is recommended for:
  • Hard keepers
  • Performance, racehorses and show horses
  • Sales weanlings and yearlings
  • Young horses in training
  • Broodmares in late gestation and lactation
  • Senior horses
  • Horses that need extra calories in the cold winter months
  • Horses recovering from injury, illness, or malnourishment

My Horse Has A Poor Appetite. How Can I Change That?

Oftentimes horses have a poor appetite because they don’t feel well. Hard keepers in particular are often fed diets rich in starch and sugar. The horse’s digestive tract has a limited ability to digest these simple carbohydrates, especially in large amounts, so the starches and sugars tend to “pass through” the small intestine (where they are normally absorbed) into the hindgut, causing an imbalance in the microbial population. This imbalance disrupts digestion and makes horses feel bad, causing them to back out of the feed tub. EndurExtra contains energy in the form of fat so you can feed smaller meals and less starch and sugar-laden grains, which will reduce the risk of pass-through carbohydrates causing GI tract imbalances. The direct-fed microbials in EndurExtra also support a healthy hindgut. When your horse’s digestive tract is healthy he will feel better and be more likely to clean up his feed.

How Does EndurExtra Support Weight Gain?
There are two ways that EndurExtra supports weight gain. First, it provides calorie-dense energy in the form of fat. Fat contains 2.25 times as much energy as an equal portion of carbohydrate or protein. Once a horse becomes acclimated to utilizing fat, it is easy for them to digest and absorb it. Secondly, when feeding fat you can reduce the size of a horse’s meal. Smaller meals pass through the digestive tract at a slower rate, which increases digestibility and reduces the risk of digestive upsets. To further support optimal digestibility and hearty appetite, EndurExtra is formulated to contain direct-fed microbials that maintain proper GI tract balance. A healthy GI tract will utilize feed more efficiently, and when horses feel good they are more likely to clean up their feed.

Does Feeding Fat Affect Temperament?
Yes. Fat is considered “cool energy” because it does not cause the hormonal spikes and excitability seen in horses fed high-starch diets. Horses that are hard to manage when being fed high-grain diets may experience a positive change in temperament when calories are provided in the form of fat.

I Have Heard Fat Called "Cool Energy." What Does That Mean?

Cool energy has a double meaning. On one hand, fat generates less heat when it is digested so horses on high-fat diets tend to tolerate the heat better when working in hot, humid climates. They physically stay cooler. On the other hand, fats do not cause the hormone spikes that can cause excitability, so horses fed fat tend to stay more cool and calm under pressure. They remain more focused on the job at hand and can be easier to handle.

What Contribution Does Flaxseed Make To EndurExtra's Formulation?
Flaxseed contains essential omega-3 fatty acids. They are considered essential because horses are unable to manufacture them in their bodies; therefore, it is necessary to provide them in the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids have beneficial anti-inflammatory properties.

Why Choose Equi-Jewel®?
Equi-Jewel is a supplement high in fat and fiber. It was developed to safely meet the energy needs of today’s horses. It reduces the risk of digestive upset and supports optimal muscle function.

Stabilized Rice Bran Supplies A Highly Digestible and Safe Form of Calories To The Diet

The fat found in rice bran is an extraordinary source of dietary energy. In fact, fat contains more than two times the energy that carbohydrates and proteins do, thereby fueling horses more efficiently. Fat is considered a “cool” feedstuff because it does not cause the hormone spikes that lead to excitability. Adding stabilized rice bran to your horse’s diet allows you to decrease the amount of starchy concentrates (grains) you feed, reducing the risk of colic and laminitis resulting from grain overload.

  • Equi-Jewel’s all-natural ingredients are high in fat and fiber.
  • Equi-Jewel’s balanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio means you don’t have to worry about mineral imbalances.
  • Equi-Jewel’s unique stabilization process ensures freshness.
When to use Equi-Jewel
Equi-Jewel’s high-fat, low-starch formula is designed to increase the energy density of a ration by adding calories. It is intended to help maintain weight on hard-to-keep horses and horses with elevated energy demands, such as intensely worked equine athletes, broodmares in early lactation, and growing horses. For horses requiring low starch/sugar diets, Equi-Jewel is an excellent source of calories.

Research shows that when fat is utilized as an energy source, performance horses have more stamina and recover faster from intense exercise. In growing horses, decreases in developmental bone disease problems have been noted. The essential fatty acids contained in Equi-Jewel contribute to healthy skin and a gleaming coat in all horses. The fat in Equi-Jewel is highly digestible and efficiently utilized.

Equi-Jewel is recommended for:
  • Performance horses and show horses of all disciplines
  • Racehorses (Thoroughbred, Standardbred, American Quarter Horse, and others)
  • Hard keepers
  • Senior horses
  • Growing horses
  • Broodmares
  • Stallions
  • Sales horses
  • Horses on restricted diets
  • Horses on low-starch diets

How Does Equi-Jewel Compare To Corn Oil?

One pound of rice bran contains the same amount of digestible energy as one cup (8 fluid oz) of corn oil. Equi-Jewel is easier to feed than corn oil, and has a better omega-3 fatty acid profile.

Does Equi-Jewel Have A Balanced Ratio of Calcium to Phosphorous?
Yes. Unlike some other rice bran products, Equi-Jewel contains a balanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. In its natural state, rice bran is richer in phosphorus than in calcium. Excessive phosphorus in the diet inhibits calcium absorption, which may compromise skeletal integrity or induce developmental orthopedic disease. To increase the calcium content, ground limestone is added to Equi-Jewel.

Horsemen often believe that horses must be fed a legume hay, such as alfalfa, when rice bran is added to the diet. This may be true when feeding a product that does not contain a balanced mineral profile. Because Equi-Jewel has the appropriate calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, horsemen can feed the hay of their choice without fear of inducing a mineral imbalance.

Why Choose Elevate® Maintenance Powder or Elevate® Se Powder?

Elevate MP provides a highly bioavailable source of natural vitamin E. Elevate Se provides both natural vitamin E and organic selenium. These powerful antioxidants limit the damage caused by everyday oxidative stress. They maintain healthy muscle and nerve function, and support a strong immune system.

Antioxidants Support Strong Cell Membranes
Antioxidants like natural vitamin E and selenium play an active role in muscle function. The harder muscles work, the more oxidative stress they are exposed to. Antioxidants scavenge the free radicals that cause oxidative stress and help reduce damage. It is easy for the horse’s system to become overwhelmed if antioxidant levels are inadequate. Supplementing with antioxidants ensures that your horse has the antioxidant reserves it needs to perform at an optimal level. Muscle disorders such as tying-up, also known as recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis (RER), equine polysaccharide storage myopathy (EPSM), equine motor neuron disease (EMND), and those related to metabolic syndrome can be managed with careful feeding and exercise regimens.

Horses and ponies that benefit from supplements that maintain muscle health:

  • Competition horses
  • Horses in intense training
  • Horses with limited access to grazing on fresh grass
  • Youngsters just starting out
  • Senior horses
  • Horses struggling with muscle disorders or metabolic syndrome

KPP’s supplements can be found in many tack and feed stores, as well as online at major retailers Big Dee’s, Dover Saddlery, Jeffers Equine, KV Vet, SmartPak, Valley Vet, and KPPusa.com.
