A Message From Dr. Harlan Anderson- creator of Square Meal Feed
Too many people are feeding the wrong things to their horses. In my veterinary practice, I have seen horses that are too heavy, too thin, hyperactive or malnourished despite the best intentions of their owners. Frequently, the problem has been related to feeding too much grain and not enough forage. That’s why I decided to provide a Total Mixed Ration – for horses in one bag. I wanted to help horse owners do the right thing for their animals. And as an animal-lover, I want animals to feel healthy and satisfied.

In my veterinary practice, I saw many well-meaning horse owners who did not have access to information about the right way to feed a horse to keep it healthy. I hated seeing animals get sick unnecessarily. That lead me down the path to use my experience and education to develop Square Meal Horse Feed, a science-based, Total Mixed Ration solution where everything the horse owner needs to know is in the bag.

How Is Square Meal Feeds DIFFERENT From Hay Cubes?
Square Meal Feeds biscuits differ from traditional hay cubes in that they are a nutritionally balanced blend of alfalfa, grass, and minerals designed to be a complete feed for your horse.  Square Meal Feeds biscuits are also softer and shorter than traditional hay cubes.

How Do I Feed Square Meal Feeds and Is It True I Won’t Need Any Grain?
Square meal feeds is intended to be fed free choice (24/7) in a feed container alongside loose iodized salt and plenty of fresh water.  Ideally, the feed container should be approximately three feet above the ground.  No additional hay, supplements, or cereal grains should be fed when feeding Square Meal Feeds biscuits free choice.

What Do Square Meal Feeds Cubes LOOK Like?
Square Meal Feeds biscuits look like some traditional hay cubes but they are more.  The biscuits are softer than cubes.  The biscuits are shorter than cubes.  The alfalfa and grass that is blended in a biscuit is more than just alfalfa.  The alfalfa and grass in the biscuit is the main source of nutrition for your horse.  Based on laboratory analysis, necessary supplements are added to complete the balanced diet for your horse.

Different types of hay require different types and amounts of supplements.  A balanced diet biscuit results in a healthier horse.  Every mouth full is the same.  The digestive bacteria, in the GI tract of the horse, know what is coming and is ready to do their best job.  Square Meal Feeds has biscuits that meet the different needs of different horses.  Growing foals, performance horses and geriatric horses have different nutritional needs from the average horse’s maintenance needs.  Square Meal Feeds was developed to make it easier and simpler for the horse owner to feed a healthy horse.

Why Are There Different Formulas For Hay or Alfalfa Fed Horses?
There are a lot of differences between the different bales of alfalfa and bales of grass.  When hay is represented as a mixture of grass and alfalfa, what is the mix?  There are a lot of differences in the nutritional value of different hays.  A person cannot make those evaluations without laboratory testing.  Once the nutritional value of the hay has been determined, what is the proper level of micro and macro nutrients needed to balance this diet of hay?  It is the intention of Square Meal Feeds to eliminate these concerns for the horse owner.

The alfalfa and grass is tested and through, a special patented process, the proper nutrients determined by the equine nutritionist is blended in the mixture that is then densified into a complete diet biscuit.  Fed properly, Square Meal Feeds products only require the additional feeding of loose iodized salt and plenty of fresh water.  Square Meal Feeds are intended to be fed free choice 24/7.  They are designed to be grazed and not eaten rapidly.  A horse naturally ate all day long to keep their digestive tract in balance.

The horse is not a meal feeder, eating twice or three times a day.  Square Meal Feeds biscuits are intended to be fed in feeders or buckets approximately 3 feet off the ground.  It is not intended to be fed on the ground.  No additional hay, supplements or cereal grains should be fed when feeding Square Meal Feeds biscuits free choice.

Is it True That “Blue Seal” and “Kent” Re-Label “Senior Supper” as “Complete Senior”
Yes, Blue Seal/Kent Nutrition presently are carrying e-Cube Complete Senior which is the same as Square Meal Feeds Senior Supper.
