Wendy Murdoch’s SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program Wendy Murdoch’s SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program, a revolutionary way for your horse to improve his own balance, movement and self-confidence!
About Wendy Murdoch Wendy Murdoch is an internationally recognized equestrian instructor and clinician for over 30 years, author of several books and DVDs, and creator of Ride Like A Natural® and the SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program . She is one of the most skilled teachers ever encountered in any equestrian discipline. Wendy’s desire to understand the function of both horse and human, curiosity and love of teaching capitalizes on the most current learning theories in order show riders how to exceed their own expectations.
In 1984, while attaining her master’s degree in equine reproductive physiology Wendy suffered a severe riding accident. Her self-rehabilitation started a quest to understand and answer the question of how to ride pain free, using the body as it was designed. Wendy’s uncanny ability to find and study with the best people in a variety of fields and her profound curiosity make her unique. Wendy combines her creative talents with her scientific training to break down larger concepts of riding into simple easy to do exercises for students of all ages, abilities and disciplines. Her ability to make learning enjoyable, engaging and fun through in-depth presentations both mounted and unmounted helps her students connect the dots and achieve their goals.
What Is The Training Background of Wendy Murdoch?
Wendy’s studies include apprenticeship with Sally Swift, extensive training with Linda Tellington-Jones, Dr. Joyce Harman, Jon Zahourek (Anatomy in Clay®) and Dr. Hilary Clayton. To help her guide students towards better function Wendy became a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner® and continues her study through MBS Academy and Dr. Feldenkrais’ first assistant, Mia Segal. Her fascination with the mind/body connection between horse and rider has led her to explore courses outside the equine world and bring that information to her students. Her willingness to embrace new ideas led Wendy to develop the SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program, which allows horses to reprogram their own brain in order to feel more grounded, secure and confident in order to become a more willing partner. This innovative Program is an extension of all that Wendy believes; we each have within us our own teacher that recognizes what is best for our own well-being. We simply need the options and opportunity to discover what we innately recognize and know.
How Do I Know If My Horse Can Benefit From SURE FOOT?
No matter the size of the horse, all he gets to stand on is four small hooves. How those hooves meet the ground has everything to do with how your horse meets and behaves in the world. If the horse’s hooves are not securely landing on the ground he will be off balance, mentally, physically and emotionally. That’s why SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Programcan benefit horses of any breed, ridden or driven in any discipline, recovering from illness, injury or simply because you want to offer you horse comfort.
Many people assume that the horse knows where his feet are and know how to use them to stand and move correctly. Any type of resistance, brace, lack of respect, anxiety, poor self-confidence or training issue is attributed to the mind of the horse and his willful disobedience. However, this is a huge and often incorrect assumption! In most cases these problems are a balance issue!
How Can The SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program Help My Horse’s Confidence Issues?
Horses that lack confidence are often unstable. Their hooves don’t seem to be securely on the ground. For reasons not clearly understood they appear to have a poor connection with the earth or feel unstable all the time. Just as you are anxious when you feel unstable or unbalanced, horses are anxious when they don’t feel secure.
When these horses stand on the SURE FOOT® pads they visibly relax. Breathing changes are commonly observed in seconds. Anxious horses often cannot stand on the pads for very long in the beginning; which is fine. The more they experience the pads the longer they will stand on them. When the horse steps back onto solid ground they appear to sense the hooves in a new way, giving them confidence. There are reports of horses changing behavior by only standing on the pads for as little as 10 seconds.
One trail horse in particular was extremely anxious going down the trail for even short rides. The owner spent two years trying to fix the problem with veterinary care and training but nothing helped. She contacted md and got some SURE FOOT pads. After watching the DVD she did two SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program sessions at home and then hauled the horse to the trailhead. They used the pads again before heading out and went down the trail for 5 miles without any signs of anxiety! Since then the horse has continued to be a confident trail horse.
I Don’t Think My Horse Has Health Issues, He Is Just Disrespectful Under Saddle...
Your horse will be insecure, disrespectful, nervous, pushy and/or exhibit “fight and flight” behavior if his feet are not secure. An unbalanced horse carrying a rider will exhibit even greater resistance and/or anxiety especially if he is restricted from using this head and neck to shift his weight. By using SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program with your horse you and your horse will discover underlying habitual patterns, a new posture and improved balance. You will suddenly recognize that the issue has been a balance problem, not a behavior problem all along!
How Can The SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program Help My Horse?
Specific applications for the SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program range from horses that will not go through a gait, are insecure or nervous, lack confidence, lean under saddle, only pick up one lead at the canter or lope, are stiff, have twisting hocks or problems with flying changes. Horses that chomp on the bit, are tight in the shoulders, high headed, on the forehand, lean or are heavy on the bit have in many cases changed completely. Horses that fool around, are difficult for the farrier or have anxiety at shows are able to be stand quietly, be shod and are more relaxed in any environment. SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program can be used before or after exercise and/or competition to prepare the horse by calming him down or relaxing him after work and in combination with other modalities such as massage. Basically any horse can benefit! More importantly your relationship with your horse can be transformed when your horse recognizes you are the one offering him comfort.
Is The SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program and Pads Affordable?
YES and the results can make it worth every dime! The SURE FOOT Starter Pack is only $100 (1 pair of pads plus the DVD) or you can get the 4 Pack (4 pads, one for each hoof) with Training DVD for only $170! Wendy is happy to take your call, talk to you and recommend which density pads and DVDs to help you!
What Do Horse Owners Say About the SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program and Pads?
Case No. 1 “Mugsy” Mugsy Dehere is a 6 year old OTTB and a SURE FOOT junkie. As a racehorse Mugsy was very, very girthy and had to be tacked up while walking. He reared whenever someone attempted to saddle him while he was tied or standing still.
When Cathy Gulick started using Mugsy as a horse for her husband she had to figure out someway he could be safely tacked up on crossties. Cathy knew about the SURE FOOT Equine Stability Program because she was my demo rider for the (soon to be released) DVD. She decided to give it a try with Mugsy.
Cathy did a few SURE FOOT sessions with Mugsy to introduce him to standing on the stability pads. Then she tried standing him on the pads while being tacked up. He stood very still and actually relaxed even more as she saddled him. Since then Cathy has been using the pads every time she tacks Mugsy. He has not even come close to having any issues since she started using SURE FOOT. In addition, he is moving more freely in the shoulder and going better under saddle.
Case Study No. 2 “Diesel” Diesel had a habit of shying. He would shy at poles on the ground and objects that he had been exposed to many times before. When we introduced him to the SURE FOOT® pads he was very mistrustful. He didn’t want anything to do with them at first, habitually shying away from them on the ground as well. That is until he spent several days experiencing the SURE FOOT® Equine Stability Program. It took several sessions gradually working with him to overcome his fear, find comfort and finally overcome his habitual pattern. When he did he was able to walk between tires and logs without changing speed or holding his breath without any prior groundwork!
Diesel went form suspicious and self-preserving to curious and finally to relaxing while on the pads. As these changes happened his riders could feel the change in his body from the saddle. While it is not necessary to be mounted during a SURE FOOT session, it does give the rider an opportunity to feel the habitual patterns of tension melt away.
