Warner Guiding and Outfitting Ltd.
Trail ride for an hour, for a day or for a week and experience true western heritage on a horseback ride through the breathtaking beauty of Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

About Warner Guiding & Outfitting
For 51 years it has been our pleasure to uphold the backcountry tradition of riding through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. A Holiday on horseback pack trip takes you and fellow adventurers deep into the heart of Banff National Park. Whether you like to rough it in rustic tent camps or relax in cozy lodges, we have the western holiday experience for you. Our semi-permanent tent camps at Mystic Valley, Flints Park and Stoney Creek offer all the basic necessities and canvas sleeping tents. Sundance and Halfway Lodges add a touch of home to the backcountry with comfortable beds and the most scenic porches in Banff National Park. Looking to take home more then a great experience and great photos? Join one of our interpretative trips with specialists on grizzlies, wolves, photography, and mules.

The cowboys, provided by Warner Guiding and Outfitting, will guide you through remote valleys, forge rivers, to high alpine lakes and mountain passes. While the cooks at each tent camp and lodge prepare up a feast that will surely fill you for the day's adventures. The clanging of the dinner bell calls all to delicious ranch-style meals. Coffee and hot water for tea or hot chocolate is always on. The horses, chosen especially to meet your needs and experience, will win you over with their charming personalities and amaze you with their abilities. A strong partnership is usually formed by ride's end.

Trail Rides

Whether you're able to join us for a hour or for a day, we have trail rides to suit your needs. Mount up for a scenic ride along the Bow River or head down the Spray River Valley. Our Western Cookouts are a great activity for families, groups and corporate. Be sure to ask about our group rates. No matter which ride you choose, don't forget your camera!

An experienced photographer from Peak Photography will snap your picture on your mount as you head out for your ride and will have them available for you to purchase when you return. An inexpensive memento from a professional point of view! With over 300 horses we can accommodate any rider level, from novice to advanced. Riding instructions are given and feel free to ask your guide any questions.

Back Country Lodge Trips
For folks who are looking to have a touch of backcountry luxury, Sundance and Halfway Lodges provide just the right combination. Days are spent riding and exploring on horseback, while evenings are spent in our cozy lodges. Meals are always an event and the cooks ensure you are well fuelled for the day's adventures.

Completed in 1991, Sundance Lodge now sits on the original site of the horse corral for Ten-Mile cabin, built by Canadian Pacific Railway back in the 1920's. The cabin itself remains standing and was declared a historical site in 1990. It was used as a refuge for mountain guides and packers traveling to Mount Assiniboine, whose names you can still see carved into the logs. Sundance Lodge sits alongside a gentle curve on Brewster Creek, with the Sundance Mountain range as a backdrop. Built entirely with pine logs, the lodge has 10 sleeping rooms, a large country kitchen, and a cozy living room area where you can curl up by the woodstove and lose yourself in a good book. And although it is a remote backcountry lodge, we decided to add what we felt was an important comfort from home - hot showers! (Please note that, for environmental reasons, showers are restricted to one per stay.)

Wilderness Tent Trips
These trips explore some of Banff National Park's most spectacular backcountry! The wilderness tenting rides are perfect for those who enjoy being outdoors but are also looking for a vacation without the stress of planning a camping trip - meals are cooked for you, tents are already set up, you can be as involved or as laid back as you want to be!

Each of the 3 camps on the circuit offers their own particular charms. Stoney Creek Camp sits at the junction of Stoney Creek and the Cascade River, and offers the rugged, sculptured peaks of the Palliser Range as a backdrop. Flints Park Camp is nestled into the base of massive Flints Peak. Open vistas and starry nights highlight this beautiful camp. The last camp is aptly called Mystic, with its stands of big, old pine and spruce trees covered with hanging moss, and open grassy slides.

These trips make camping easy! All of the camps are of a similar set-up; simple luxuries include wash stands and hot water, filtered drinking water, a fire pit for evening campfires, a large kitchen tent where meals are cooked and served, plenty of "A" frame canvas tents with raised wooden platforms which make for cozy accommodations and rustic rail corrals for the horses.
