Virtual Horse Racing – Can it end the ethical dilemma?
virtual horse racing

Horse racing betting is one of the oldest forms of betting in the history of the world, but the internet has brought us something new: virtual horse racing.
Those who are against the horse racing industry would certainly much prefer people owning, training and racing a virtual horse to real ones.

Is horse racing ethical or is it wrongly perceived by animal rights activists
The age old ethical debate...
There is an age old ethical debate going on about horse racing: Is it ethical to make horses race for entertainment and betting, or is it a noble sport as it is commonly perceived? When you talk to an animal rights activist, you will hear how horse racing is unethical, immoral and how people shouldn't use horses for their entertainment, let alone bet on them. They think that it is wrong to make an animal do something against its will. However, the reality is much, much different than that and not at all black.
Horse racing betting is one of the oldest forms of betting in world history.

Horse racing betting is one of the oldest forms of betting in the history of the world, but the internet has brought us something new: virtual horse racing

Race horses are some of the most cared for animals in the world. They are groomed every day, they receive medical attention, they have personal trainers and they are fed with food of the highest quality. Yes, all of that is for them to perform better at race derbies, but that doesn't mean that they are not treated well. On the contrary, they are the most respected animals in the entertainment industry.

All in all, race horses receive a humane treatment without a doubt (with some exceptions of course). However, in the recent years as faster internet speeds were becoming reality, online bookies came up with something interesting: virtual horse racing.

These are literally virtual horse races like 3D games.
Virtual horse racing games are quick little random games which are organized throughout the entire day. They don't require special racing venues, real horses, and real jockeys or live video streaming of the races. They are something like RNG online casino games and the results are random race runs. You can find these at online sports betting sites and even in Vegas.

Everything in these games is animated to resemble reality. The race viewers are animated, but the betting is exactly the same as in real horse races. They emulate a real race in every way just like Sky in the UK on their TV and internet platforms. You can even own, train, race and auction your own virtual horse through websites like Digiturf.com. It is something like simulator video games or Football Manager where you act as the manager and use your skills to lead the team towards success while training and grooming new talents.

So is virtual horse racing in any way a realistic replacement for real horse racing? Probably not in the near future but who knows years down the line. Automation will play a larger role in our lives and one would argue that no industry would be spared. Those who are against the horse racing industry would certainly much prefer people owning, training and racing a virtual horse to real ones.
