Bill Brown is just a farm kid trying to keep the cattle in. He grew up on 700 acres and 150 head of cattle in Northwest Iowa, and his wife Sue grew up on a dairy farm nearby. Like countless other farm kids, they walked the fence lines to check if their electric fence was live. When the animals got out, it was like a fire drill — all hands on deck. The task of checking their electric fences followed them into adulthood. After the initial shock of one of their horses getting out and being hit by a car, Bill thought: There’s got to be a better way. INSULIGHTS Are Visible From a Long Distance!

Who wants to go outside in the dark, or the rain or snow and check the fence? Wouldn’t it be easier to just look to see if the fence was hot? By simply looking down the fence line, the flashing indicator shows that the fence is live. Can INSULIGHTS Be Seen During The Day? 
Yes! INSULIGHTS are visible during daylight hours, like LED Christmas lights that can be seen from several yards away on your Christmas tree— only these are brighter! At night, the high-intensity LED is extremely bright and can be seen up to a half mile away. Insulights are not intended to be installed on every fence post; most customers place them approximately every quarter mile or at locations visible from the house, shop, or vehicle.

 


Do INSULIGHTS Help To Make My Electric Fence More Visible?
Absolutely! At night, Insulights clearly indicate both the presence of the fence and that it is energized. This is especially appreciated by trail riders and campers, as Insulights function as a warning light around trailers and campsites while confirming the fence is working. They also help make that fence more visible to your horses! 

 


Why Is Having “No Grounding Wire” Important? 

Electric fences operate by sending a pulse of electricity down the fence wire and require a return path for the current. Proper grounding provides that return path and allows the energizer to function correctly. Insulights must also be grounded in order to indicate that the fence is working. When the fence is properly energized, the Insulight flashes. If a tree, branch, or other object grounds out the fence, the Insulight will stop flashing—immediately alerting you that the fence is no longer operational. Unlike traditional fence testers that require a wire and a ground stake placed in the soil, Insulights use a self-contained design powered by a 2032 watch battery. This eliminates concerns related to lightning, poor soil conditions, or installing and measuring a ground stake. Insulights are fully self-contained and simple to use.
 

Is It True That The ONLY Thing You’ll Need To Replace- Is The Battery?
Yes. The only maintenance required is replacing the 2032 watch battery, which, according to the manufacturer, should last 18 months to 24 months -much like changing batteries in a garage door opener. We make sure all batteries are included — so you won’t need to worry about it for about 18 months! 

Do The Batteries Really Last 18 Months?
The 2032 battery itself is rated to retain power for over eight years when unused. In active fence applications, the battery should last for 18 – 24 months, according to the manufacturer. If a customer reports that an Insulight is not flashing, we suggest tapping it in their hand. If it flashes, the Insulight is functioning correctly, and the fence is likely down. Many customers report battery life beyond 18 months, but replacement intervals are similar to other household battery-powered devices.

How Do I Know When It Is Finally Time To Replace The Battery? 

Because Insulights use a high-intensity LED, you will notice the light begins to dim when the battery is nearing the end of its life. A simple way to test the unit is to tap it in your hand—if it flashes, it’s working properly… but once you see the lights begin to dim, just replace the battery. Where Can I Get The 2032 Battery? 

Replacement batteries are widely available at drugstores and hardware retailers and are very affordable at just a couple dollars. 

What Posts Do They Work With? 

Insulights are the only insulator that is universal and works on most posts: Steel, T-posts and can be nailed to wood posts. Many users simply hang the Insulight on the electric fence wire.
