Support your horse's legs with Equiflexsleeve!
How Did Equiflexsleeve Come To Be?
Inventor of Equiflexsleeve, Mary Leibold, explains:
In early 2009, while treating my own horse’s degenerative suspensory ligament lameness, I set out to develop a product that would provide him with the support of a traditional standing wraps without any of the negative side effects associated with long-term use of those wraps. Working closely with physicians and equine veterinarians, I was able to produce such a product.
After more than three years of testing and development, the result is a joint support/compression sleeve that is comfortable for the horse, can be used instead of standing wraps and can be used for longer periods of time than standing wraps.
Although this product was designed strictly as a replacement for standing wraps, the majority of horse owners have “experimented” with additional uses with positive results.
How Does Equiflexsleeve Work?
Simple physics!! The sleeve covers the leg from the mid-pastern to just below the knee/hock. Because the fetlock joint is the largest part of the leg that is covered by the sleeve, it creates the most compression within the sleeve. The sleeves are carefully calibrated to provide 20-30 mmHg of compression at the fetlock joint when sized correctly. Because there are no belts, Velcro bands, zippers or other adjustable fasteners, the element of human error in application is removed – even a child can apply the sleeve and get the correct compression every time!
Equiflexsleeve
Equiflexsleeve , a proprietary blend of multi-tensioned fibers infused with antimicrobial technology, acts as a compression sleeve/therapeutic joint support for horses. The sleeve fits loosely over the pastern and offers 20-30 mmHg of compression at the fetlock joint when applied to a mildly or moderately swollen leg. The sleeve takes the place of traditional standing wraps and can be worn for longer periods of time than traditional wraps. Unlike traditional wraps, the sleeve allows heat to dissipate, does not immobilize the joints and remains in position as swelling decreases. Because Equiflexsleeve has no adjustable straps or fasteners, the element of human error in application is removed.
Equiflexsleeves are made in the U.S.A. (Twin City Knitting, Hickory, NC) of recycled materials.
My Horse Stocks Up Frequently In The Stall. Can Equiflexsleeve Help Me?
Yes. The product is specifically designed to reduce swelling during stall rest or during the night. The sleeve, unlike standing wraps/bandages, allows the horse to move freely and does not trap heat. Because the horse is less likely to reduce movement due to the discomfort caused by standing wraps/bandages, circulation will be promoted and swelling reduced.
My Horse Is Prone To Pulling Suspensory Ligaments, Can Equiflexsleeve Help?
Yes. The product was initially designed for an older horse with degenerative suspensory ligament issues. The sleeve will offer the same support as a traditional standing wrap/bandage.
What Do People SAY About Equiflexsleeve?
My horse can walk now. My horse tore his suspensory and a piece of bone off the back of his leg and barely walked. Quilts and wraps were causing sores. A friend gave me a pair of the Equi flexsleeves to try. These sleeves added support to his leg so that he could walk. I have used them for 2 years and am able to walk my horse for a mile each night. He has worn them constantly during that time - changing sleeves every 2 to 3 days - and people are amazed at his recovery. I am completely sold on the product and have purchased multiple pairs. I can't say enough good about this product!
Tuffy’s Mom/Concord, Ohio
We have a horse that we keep her legs wrapped with standing wraps 24/7 due to her developing cellulitis. They work GREAT. Our mares legs look the best they ever have. Where she would wear the standing wraps for so long the hair on her legs would get curly and the overall health of the skin on her legs was not good. We showed up at our vets office and she took one look at them and was going to order several sizes for the front and back so patien[t]s could use them. They are so much easier to maintain and someone that is not famil[i]ar with "correctly" wrapping legs can adjust these if they slide down. We just ordered our 2nd pair so we can rotate them between washes. LOVE these...what a GREAT product.

I have a 17hh tb that has a tendency to swell when stalled. I had tried everything to help him. Found these and they work great! Anytime I know he is going to be stalled these go on and haven't had a problem since. He is also super sensitive to scratches but the anti microbial component keep it from spreading and it is actually completely gone now. Cannot say enough about this product!

Can I Use Lineaments Under The Sleeve?
There have been no negative results reported when alcohol-based lineaments have been used under the Equiflexsleeves. Gel products with a Vaseline-like consistency have also not been reported to cause any issues. Poultices, however, dry into the fabric and cause uneven compression. Poultices are not recommended.
Can I Just Wash Them In The Washer?
Yes, the sleeves can be washed in a gentle cycle and dried on low. Any detergent is fine, but bleach will destroy the integrity of the elastic.
Can I Wear Them Trail Riding Or Performing?
This is not recommended. The sleeves were not designed for use during exercise or turn-out. Trail riding in particular presents a lot of elements that may catch in the fabric and cause an issue. We do have many clients that have “experimented” with the sleeve in alternative uses (i.e. using the sleeve underneath polo wraps for barrel racing or reining). Any experimentation or combination with another product is at the purchaser’s discretion.
Can I Use Equiflexsleeve In The Pasture To Help Prevent Fly Bites On My Horse's Legs?
The sleeves have shown that they do work as an additional barrier against flies. Fly spray may be sprayed on the outside of the sleeve once the sleeve is on the leg.
Where Are Equiflexsleeves Being Used?
Equiflexsleeves are currently being used in all riding disciplines and can now be found in 16 countries! In the United States, we are distributed by Schneider Saddlery. In Canada, we are distributed by Cavalier Equestrian. In Denmark/Sweden, we are distributed by Little Creek Western Company. Equiflexsleeves are also in Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
What Do Horse Owners Say About Equiflexsleeves?
My jumping Trakehner mare is frequently in the stall as she tends to jump fences in the pasture. While I do get her out for 2-3 hours every day, she is in her stall the rest of the time. Timka had problems with stocking up and it has been a worry to me for years. Since using the EquiFlexSleeve, I have noticed a huge difference! NO MORE STOCKING UP when she is wearing them. She also doesn't pull and bite at the FlexSleeve like she used to do her "wraps" that I put on. I highly recommend the FlexSleeve to everyone who has a horse with stocking up issues!

When Dream, my gelding, got a bad stone bruise this summer, he was forced to have stall rest which we both hated! To make matters worse, Dream began to stock up on his hind legs. I had heard of EquiFlexSleeve but had not tried it. I was amazed at the difference. It doesn't squeeze-- it isn't tight, but it is just the extra little bit of support on his legs that kept Dream from stocking up. It is so nice to see a product that actually DOES what it says it does! I think every stable should have EquiFlexSleeve in their tack room!
