The Solution Section
What is the Halter Hold It and what problem does it solve?
The Halter Hold It adds both safety and convenience to any rope halter, providing safety against pull backs and ease of use. It was created after inventor Jalynn Helsel's trained mare snagged her rope halter on a bolt and panicked — the bolt broke, but the rope halter would not, only getting tighter.
Can the Halter Hold It really turn my rope halter into a safety halter?
Yes. Traditional rope halters have no breaking point, so if a horse gets caught or snagged, the Halter Hold It allows a breaking point in case of emergency — while still being strong enough for general use.
How does the Halter Hold It work day to day?
It keeps the tie and the loop of the rope halter connected, so the halter simply slips over the head, snugs up and ties. When the halter is slid open, the Hold It keeps it together so it can be hung neatly by the crown.
Will it break too easily during normal use?
No. The Helsels worked with leather companies to find just the right leather: it is pliable enough to tie around and strong enough to use for working, yet will break under intense pressure. To use it as a breakaway, you simply follow the directions for the easy away method.
How much does the Halter Hold It cost and where can I buy it?
It runs about $5, making it an affordable safety addition for anyone with a rope halter. You can buy it at The Silver Stirrup Tack Shop, online at halterholdit.com, and through JeffersEquine.com or Beagley Braiding.
