Check Out Our Newest "Hay Ring Feeders"! Starting at Only $875!

These HayRings have been designed with the knowledge that they will be put to the test of rough animals, harsh weather, and overall wear and tear. Because of the thick plastic material, they are strong and durable, yet lightweight enough for anyone to easily move without equipment. With metal reinforcements on the top and bottom, they keep the feeder sturdy, always keeping its form so you can drape it over 100’s of bales and it will keep working as intended every time. Keeping your animals hay clean is only half the battle, you want a durable long-lasting net that will stand up to constant grazing.

  • The heavy-duty polyethylene orange netting that comes with every HayRing is the way to go because when compared to other nets on the market, it doesn’t fray as much and is water resistant.
  • This orange netting has a great track record with customer feedback over the years and this is why HayBoss Feeders has decided to use it for the HayBoss HayRings and Barrel Kits…

These innovative feeders are designed so you can convert them into different shapes and sizes depending on the type of bales that you are feeding. The panels are universal and as they make up the majority of these HayRing feeders, you can position them in different patterns and shapes, so for example with the corner conversion kit, the HayBoss Hex feeder converts into the Large Square Bale HayRing. These are great feeders to have if you value ease of use, clean and controlled feeding and future versatility…

Is Pawing A Problem? Our "Adjustable Heights" Offer a Real Solution!

The HayBoss™ feeder was intentionally designed with 2 adjustable heights to address any pawing concerns. A small percentage of horses getting used to net feeding may paw in frustration (this could result in a hole in the netting). If you feel one of your animals is doing this, you may want to adjust the feeder’s height to the top setting. Once the horses are comfortable with the feeder and you can see they have adjusted, feel free to change to your desired height.

Note: If you have a standard feeder and feeding round bales, we also have the optional Paw Bar Kit that can be attached to the feeder.

What Do Customers Say About The Hayboss Feeder™?

We have some great testimonials and more being added all the time!

We've fed a few bales in our new HayBoss feeder, and the results so far are better than I expected. After putting 4 bales through it, there's virtually nothing left behind, and the horses look great! Until the HayBoss, we were feeding a group of horses by hand with small square bales. This group was prone to getting over-fat on a free-access feeder, but with HayBoss, we can put a round bale in front of them and they're staying in good shape. Very happy with this feeder.

Mike Hittinger

I have recently purchased the Junior Hay Boss Feeder, and it is one of the best investments I have made for my horses. In the past we had tried using slow feeding nets, but my horses often tossed them over the fence to the neighbour’s horses and many of my nets went missing completely. They also ripped holes in the nets usually within a couple of months of purchasing the nets, defeating the purpose of slow feeding. We find that with the Hay Boss Feeder they are unable to stand on the net and rip it, plus the net is of heavier construction than the slow feeding nets. I now have less fighting and wood chewing in my paddock. My horses are happy, which makes my life easier. My only regret is that I didn’t go with the larger round bale feeder. HayBoss Feeders net feeder cradling a bale of hay off the ground in a paddock

What makes the HayBoss™ a true slow-feeding system?

The HayBoss Feeder is a multi-species forage feeding system built around a self-tensioning net that hugs the bale and retracts as the hay diminishes, so feed stays clean, off the ground, and resilient to wind, rain, or snow. Rather than letting an animal plow through a bale or burrow its muzzle into a dusty cavity, the net forces small, deliberate bites that simulate natural grazing. The result is a feeding pace closer to pasture, with the bale protected from spoilage and weather the entire time it is being eaten. This is the patented "grazing, not gorging" principle the company is built on.

Galvanized steel, fiberglass rods, and a chemical-free spruce floor

Every Hay Boss is built from fully galvanized steel to handle the elements and rough use, paired with a self-tensioning nylon net on a spring-loaded roller for easy refilling. The netting is held taut by 7/16-inch fiberglass rods placed every 16 inches to maintain vertical tension against the bale. The floor planks are deliberately standard spruce rather than treated lumber, chosen by customer demand for a chemical-free eating surface, and because the wood is suspended in the air it can last 30+ years and bolts out plank-by-plank for simple replacement.

How the net controls intake and protects animal health

HayBoss offers two net densities to dial in intake: Net 1 is recommended for easy keepers and controlled feeding, while Net 2 suits animals that struggle to maintain body weight or eat long, stringy hay. Continuous, restricted access encourages chewing that releases endorphins and keeps hind-gut bacterial flora healthy, which the company links to fewer stomach ulcers, reduced colic symptoms, and less bloating. Steady access also keeps animals calm and content and mitigates bossy, dominant herd behavior at the feeder.

Which feeder fits which bale and which species

The lineup covers every operation: Big Round, Big Square, Small Square, and PenPal Premium Feeders; Big Round, Small Round, and Big Square Ring Feeders; and a DIY Barrel Feeder Kit that converts a used barrel into a slow feeder. The Big Round Premium accepts any size round bale or up to 16 small square bales, and works on a fence line to feed two pens at once while still serving as a barrier when empty. Net 1 is mandatory for sheep, goats, and square bales, and bulls are accommodated by anchoring the feeder to two posts.

What it costs and how to buy

Pricing runs from $79 up to $4,950 depending on model and netting size, with Ring Feeders such as the Big Round Ring Feeder ($1,295–$1,544 CAD), Small Round Ring Feeder ($1,015–$1,220 CAD), and Big Square Ring Feeder ($1,535–$1,760 CAD), plus the DIY Barrel Feeder Kit at $199 CAD. HayBoss ships across Canada and the USA at a flat $500.00 rate, offers financing with payments described as less than what you save on hay, and sells direct online at haybossfeeders.com/shop or through dealers via the dealer locator. The Solution Section (FAQ)
What is HayBoss Feeders and how does the system work?

HayBoss Feeders™ is a family-owned manufacturer based in Edmonton, Alberta, with U.S. facilities, serving horse owners across North America. The product is a raised, sheltered net-feeder system made of high-grade galvanized steel with self-locking, retractable nets kept taut by spring-loaded rollers. Forage stays off the ground (no mud, manure, urine, or weather contamination), and slow-feed nets meter the intake — leading to less waste, healthier horses, and better-managed feeding.

What sizes does HayBoss come in?

The main HayBoss line covers three sizes plus a smaller pen feeder. Junior — fits up to 8 small square bales (60" × 54" × 70" or 82"). Standard — any size round bale or up to 16 small squares (95" × 78" × 84.5"). XL — one large rectangular bale up to 4'×4'×8', or up to 20 small squares (110" × 54" × 70" or 82"). PenPal — a smaller feeder designed for small square bales, easy to mount on fence lines. The Junior, XL, and Standard all have adjustable floor heights of 12" or 29" from the ground.

What net options are available, and why does diamond size matter?

HayBoss includes the netting with every feeder purchase. #1 Net — approximately 1¼" diamonds (slowest, smallest hay-pull rate). #2 Net — approximately 1⅝" diamonds (middle option, fits most herds). #3 Net — approximately 2½" diamonds (faster pull, available on round-bale and Standard configurations). Smaller diamonds slow intake more — useful for easy-keepers and horses prone to over-fattening on free-choice forage. Larger diamonds work for high-need or working horses.

Is there a DIY option to save money?

Yes. HayBoss offers a full Do-It-Yourself line where you receive the roller and handle frames, hardware, and netting of your choice — plus building instructions and a list of materials available at your local hardware store. The result is the same feeder, built by you, at a lower cost. The DIY line covers JR, XL, and Round Bale feeders, plus a DIY Barrel Kit for converting reusable barrels into slow feeders. Easy instructional videos walk through each build.

How does HayBoss handle pawing?

The feeder was intentionally designed with two adjustable heights to address pawing. A small percentage of horses adjusting to net-feeding paw in frustration during the transition (which can put holes in the netting). If yours does, raise the feeder to the top setting until the horse settles in, then drop back down to your preferred height once they've adjusted. For Standard feeders with round bales, an optional Paw Bar Kit attaches to the feeder for additional protection.

What does HayBoss cost?

Per the source: Junior $3,650; Standard $4,200; XL $4,200; PenPal $490; HayRing Feeders starting at $875. DIY line: XL $2,250; JR $2,050; Round Bale $2,450; Barrel Kit $165. Pricing as quoted is subject to change due to economic and material cost factors — confirm current pricing with HayBoss Feeders directly when ordering. Replacement nets are available — call HayBoss for pricing tailored to your existing feeder.

What are HayRing Feeders?

The newest line in the HayBoss family. HayRing Feeders are made of thick polyethylene with metal reinforcements top and bottom — strong, durable, but lightweight enough to move without equipment. The panels are universal, so you can reconfigure the same feeder into different shapes (for example, the Hex feeder converts to a Large Square Bale HayRing with a corner conversion kit). The included heavy-duty polyethylene orange netting is water-resistant and resists fraying — based on years of customer feedback.

What do customers say, and how do I order?

Mike Hittinger: "After putting 4 bales through it, there's virtually nothing left behind, and the horses look great. This group was prone to getting over-fat on a free-access feeder, but with HayBoss, we can put a round bale in front of them and they're staying in good shape." Lacinda George (Clearwater Horse Club) on the Junior: "In the past we had tried using slow feeding nets, but my horses often tossed them over the fence... and ripped holes in the nets within a couple of months. With the HayBoss they are unable to stand on the net and rip it, plus the net is of heavier construction. I now have less fighting and wood chewing. My horses are happy." What is a HayBoss Feeder?
The HayBoss Feeder is a revolutionary, no-waste, multi-species forage feeding system that holds hay in a self-tensioning net so animals graze rather than gorge. The net cradles feed off the ground and keeps it sheltered from wind, rain, and snow. It is designed to be safe and clean for animals of any size, from horses and cattle to goats and sheep.
How does the HayBoss net feeding system actually work?
A self-tensioning nylon net is mounted on a spring-loaded roller and held taut against the bale by 7/16-inch fiberglass rods placed every 16 inches. As the bale diminishes, the net retracts and stays hugged against the remaining hay, so the animal always has to take small, deliberate bites. This simulates natural grazing and keeps the hay clean and protected the entire time it is being eaten.
What materials is a HayBoss Feeder made of?
The structure is fully galvanized steel built to handle harsh weather and rough use. The net is a self-tensioning nylon held in place by fiberglass rods. The floor planks are standard spruce rather than treated lumber, chosen by customer demand to give animals a chemical-free eating surface, and the floorboards bolt out individually for simple replacement.
What animals can use a HayBoss Feeder?
HayBoss is a true multi-species system suitable for cattle, horses, goats, and sheep. Net density and feeder model are matched to the species, with Net 1 mandatory for sheep and goats. Bulls can use the feeder when it is anchored to two posts for added stability.
What is the difference between Net 1 and Net 2?
Net 1 is recommended for all easy keepers and for controlled feeding where you want to slow intake the most, and it is mandatory for sheep, goats, and square bales. Net 2 is recommended for animals that have a harder time maintaining body weight or that need maximum nutrition, and it suits long, stringy hay. Choosing the right net is how you tune how quickly an animal can pull hay through the feeder.
Which HayBoss models are available?
The Premium line includes the Big Round, Big Square, Small Square, and PenPal Premium Feeders. The Ring Feeder line includes the Big Round, Small Round, and Big Square Ring Feeders. There is also a DIY Barrel Feeder Kit that converts a used barrel into a slow feeder for horses or small livestock.
What size bale fits in the Big Round Premium Feeder?
The Big Round Premium will accept any size round bale, or up to 16 small square bales. For round bales, feeding the bale on end like a paint can is the most efficient orientation. A large square bale can also be loaded by shortening it to about 6 feet and stacking the remaining flakes on top.
Can one feeder serve two pens?
Yes. HayBoss Feeders work great on a fence line and maintain an excellent barrier between two pens, even when empty. This lets you feed animals on both sides from a single feeder while the steel structure continues to function as fencing.
How much does a HayBoss Feeder cost?
Pricing runs from $79 up to $4,950 depending on the model and netting size. Ring Feeders are priced at $1,295–$1,544 CAD (Big Round), $1,015–$1,220 CAD (Small Round), and $1,535–$1,760 CAD (Big Square). The DIY Barrel Feeder Kit is $199 CAD.
How much does shipping cost and where does HayBoss ship?
HayBoss ships feeders all over Canada and the USA at a flat rate of $500.00. Feeders can also be picked up through dealers, which you can find using the dealer locator on the website.
How long does the net last and can I repair it?
If the feeding instructions are followed, nets should last a minimum of 3 years and could last as long as 7 years. If a hole does develop, it is easy to fix with the simple net repair kit, which includes a small piece of net, zip ties, and side cutters.
Is there a warranty on HayBoss Feeders?
The net system comes with a factory-defect warranty, and the structural and mechanical parts carry a one-year limited warranty. Because every piece is sold separately through the online Parts Catalogue, you can replace any single component rather than buying a whole new feeder if something is damaged.
What are the health benefits of net feeding?
By promoting grazing instead of gorging, the HayBoss helps release endorphins from chewing and keeps hind-gut bacterial flora healthy. The company links this steady feeding pattern to fewer stomach ulcers, reduced colic symptoms, and less bloating overall. Continuous access to feed also keeps animals calm and content and reduces bossy, dominant behavior at the feeder.
Will the wooden floorboards rot?
No. Because the spruce floorboards are suspended in the air, moisture does not accumulate the way it would on the ground, and HayBoss states wood suspended like this could last 30+ years. If a board is ever damaged, you can change one or multiple planks at any time by simply removing the bolts.
Does the roller system freeze in extreme cold?
No. The roller uses an industrial spring designed specifically for the HayBoss, sealed with neoprene caps so the mechanism stays simple and dependable in all weather conditions, including -40 cold. Feeders ship with a pre-set, factory-recommended tension, and the roller can be adjusted at the top with a 1/2-inch drive if needed.
Do HayBoss Feeders have good resale value?
Yes. Because any part can be replaced and the entire structure is fully galvanized, HayBoss states resale value is far superior to any feeder on the market today. The combination of replaceable components and rust-resistant steel means a used HayBoss holds up and holds its value over years of use.
Where can I buy a HayBoss Feeder?
You can order direct online at haybossfeeders.com/shop, call toll-free 1 (844) HAY-BOSS (1-844-429-2677), or find a local dealer through the dealer locator. Financing is available, with payments described as less than the amount of money you'll save on hay costs, and feeders are also stocked at CO-OP Agro Centre locations and partner dealers.
