Mikko's Choice

Mikko’s Choice— Designed By a Horse Owner In Pain…

There's a story behind every great product — and Mikko's Choice has one of the most extraordinary ones you'll ever hear. Emma, the founder of Mikko's Choice, grew up working hands-on with animals of all species, handling everything from basic husbandry to veterinary care. She went on to earn a BS in Animal Science and a Master's degree in Animals and Public Policy. But life took an unexpected turn when a horse broke her back, leaving her facing a spinal fusion and a year-long recovery.

During that painful recovery, her brother — who opened a cannabis delivery service — convinced her to try CBD products for her nerve pain. The results were remarkable. They helped her get off opioids entirely and completely changed the trajectory of her recovery. Around the same time, her beloved dog was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma — a rapidly terminal liver cancer. With nothing to lose, Emma gave him a human CBD:THC tincture to ease his pain. To his veterinarian's absolute disbelief, his tumors went away. He lived another four years instead of the four months he was given.

At the time, there were virtually no animal CBD products on the market. So given personal experience with the plant, Emma decided to change that. She combined her Animal Science background, her graduate education, twenty years of equine experience across Dressage, Ranch Riding, Hunter, and Show Jumping, and three years in the cannabis industry to create Mikko's Choice — a line of CBD animals products built on firsthand experience, rigorous science, and genuine love for animals.

Why Is It Called “Mikko’s Choice”?

So glad you asked! Mikko is Emma's own BLM wild mustang. She adopted him, lost him through heartbreaking circumstances, and miraculously found him again years later on Craigslist. He came back to her traumatized, underweight, and labeled "dangerous" by multiple respected trainers. Through patience, love, and the methods of legends like Buck Brannaman and Warwick Schiller, Emma turned Mikko into the balanced, thriving, deeply social horse he is today. The name comes from the thought that an animal might choose something that helps them feel more physically and emotionally balanced—aka, it would be their "choice," hence Mikko's Choice.

Emma is the sole employee of the company she built in honor of Mikko and all of her pets. If she wouldn't give a product to Mikko (or any of her animals), she won't offer it for sale. Full stop.

What Customers Say

I've been using these CB D pellets for about 3 years now. I use them for my two horses on an as-needed basis — trailering, stressful circumstances, after hard workouts — and truly notice a difference. One of my horses is highly sensitive and reactive, and two scoops is just enough to take the edge off her anxieties.

Premium equine CB D pellets and tinctures, third-party tested and dosed specifically for horses.

The formulations are highly potent, meaning your horse gets a meaningful, effective dose right from the very first suggested serving. And because Mikko's Choice is so concentrated, you actually end up spending less per milligram of CBD than you would with most competitors. More product, more CBD, lower price per mg. It's a better deal — and a better result.

The CBD Pellets deliver 100 mg of CBD per two scoops. A 1 lb bag contains 3,200 mg, which lasts 32 servgins at 2 scoops a day; a 3 lb bag contains 9,600 mg, which lasts 96 servings at 2 scoops a day. Compare that to what else is on the shelf and the difference is clear.

What Does InfoHorse Say About Mikko’s Choice?

“My husband’s beloved buckskin gelding, Dream, died after being my mare’s constant companion for over 15 years. She was devastated— as were we. Soon, my daughter’s gelding, Bubba was brought into her pasture to be her friend and she, in her loneliness, quickly bonded to him. Unfortunately, Bubba is gone from time to time at shows etc, and Sugar, my Morgan mare, would just be extremely upset! Thanks to Mikko’s Choice, on days that Bubba is gone, I can give her one dose, and, within minutes, she is back to grazing and acting normal in the pasture— running and playing— but the pacing along the fence is Gone! Such a relief. This is an amazing product!

  • Add the pellets to your horse's grain or regular feed
  • Give them by hand as a standalone treat
  • Mix into another treat your horse already loves

Even picky eaters tend to take to them with no fuss. For best results, give daily — either once or twice a day. You can give one larger serving or break it up across two feedings, whichever works best for your routine. If your horse is injured or particularly stressed, you can double or tripple their normal dose either in one serving or split morning and night. You may also use it situationally--for example trailering or a farrier visit. If possible, give it 30-60 mins for full effect.

Why Does THC-free Matter so Much?

When animals ingest TH C, they don't understand what is happening to them. Unlike a person who seeks that effect, animals can become extremely stressed and disoriented. Emma takes this seriously. You'll never have to worry about that with Mikko's Choice.

Side effects are rare but can include mild drowsiness or deep relaxation as your horse adjusts. If that occurs, simply reduce the dose slightly.

Please note: Mikko's Choice does not guarantee your horse will pass a drug test after use. Always check the rules of your specific competition association. Some shows allow CBD and some do not.

What Products Are Available for Horses?

All products are independently lab tested, USA-sourced from organically grown hemp, and support small American farmers. And with every purchase, $5 is donated to an animal rescue — the partner rotates monthly and is always listed on the website.

What is Mikko's Choice?
Mikko's Choice is a line of equine CBD products built specifically for horses, including CBD pellets and an All Animals CBD tincture. It was created by founder Emma, who combined a BS in Animal Science, a Master's in Animals and Public Policy, twenty years of equine experience, and three years in the cannabis industry. The company is named after Mikko, Emma's own BLM wild mustang.
How much CBD is in Mikko's Choice pellets?
The CBD pellets deliver 100 mg of CBD per two scoops. A 1 lb bag contains 3,200 mg of CBD and lasts 32 servings at 2 scoops a day, while a 3 lb bag contains 9,600 mg and lasts 96 servings at 2 scoops a day. Because the formulations are highly concentrated, you often end up spending less per milligram of CBD than with many competitors.
Does Mikko's Choice contain THC, and is it lab tested?
The pellets contain 0.0% THC. Every batch is independently lab tested for CBD and THC concentrations, heavy metals, molds, and pesticides, and those results are shared publicly on the website so you can verify them yourself. THC-free matters because animals can become stressed and disoriented by THC, since they don't understand the effect the way a person seeking it would.
What can CBD help my horse with?
Based on early research and customer experiences, Mikko's Choice products may help horses with joint pain, stiffness and arthritis, muscle soreness and recovery after hard work, swelling and inflammation, and anxiety or nervousness. Many owners also use it situationally for trailering jitters, farrier and vet visit anxiety, pre-competition nerves, and senior horse comfort. The products are not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any specific condition.
How do I give the CBD pellets to my horse, and what is the right dose?
A great starting point is 2 scoops once a day, or 1 dropper once a day, delivering 100 mg of CBD. You can add the pellets to grain or regular feed, give them by hand as a treat, or mix them into another treat your horse already loves. From there, observe your horse over several days and adjust scoops, drops, or frequency as needed; for injured or stressed horses you can double or triple the normal dose.
Can I use the tincture for my horse instead of pellets?
Yes. The All Animals CBD Tincture (5,000 mg) works for horses too; simply add a dropper to feed or a treat. It has no taste, so even discerning horses tend to accept it. Many customers rotate between the pellets and the tincture, with the tincture being especially popular for acute situations like trailering or pre-competition nerves where a faster response helps.
Will my horse pass a drug test, and can I use CBD at shows?
Mikko's Choice does not guarantee your horse will pass a drug test after use. Some show organizations allow CBD and some do not, so always check the rules of your specific competition association before using it at an event. The pellets do contain 0.0% THC and every batch is independently tested.
How do I order Mikko's Choice or ask a question?
