What does Champion Horse Blankets actually make?
Champion Horse Blankets is a rider-owned line of waterproof turnout blankets, rain sheets, fly sheets, neck covers, coolers, and accessories built for horses, ponies, and minis. The core range is three weights of waterproof turnout blanket sized from 70" up to 94", so one fitting system carries a horse from early autumn through the depths of a Fraser Valley winter. Every blanket shares the same construction language: a tail flap, twice-adjustable chest closures, cross surcingles, adjustable leg straps, a fleece wither protector, shoulder gussets, and three rings at the neck to attach a hood.
Champion Horse Blankets waterproof turnout blanket on a horse outdoorsWho is Kristen, and why does her background matter? The company is owned by Kristen O'Connor, who has been involved with horses for over 40 years, beginning her riding at Thunderbird. She has competed in both Hunters and Entry-Level Cross Country and is actively involved in breeding Hanoverians and Westfalens on her home ranch in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Because she also runs a blanket repair and laundry operation, she designs from a repair bench's point of view: she has seen exactly where ordinary blankets blow out, and she builds Champion blankets to not fail at those seams.
What materials and denier go into a Champion blanket?
The medium and heavy blankets use a 1200 Denier waterproof ripstop outer shell, while the 100 gram light blanket steps up to a 1250 Denier waterproof ripstop shell. Linings are chosen to protect the coat rather than scuff it: the 200 gram uses a 220 Ripstop Nylon lining "to prevent tugging on the horses hair," and the 100 gram light blanket uses a 210 Ripstop Nylon silky-feel lining that is shine-enhancing, anti-static, and anti-bacterial to support optimum skin and coat health.

Champion offers three fill weights so you can match the blanket to the season instead of overheating or under-protecting your horse. The 100 gram Fill Horse Turnout Blanket is the lightweight choice for shoulder seasons and milder cold; the 200 gram Fill is the medium-weight everyday winter blanket; and the 400 gram Fill is the heavyweight for the coldest, wettest stretches. All three share the same roomy, gusseted cut and the same neck rings, so a barn can standardize fit across a whole string of horses.
What do the blankets cost, and is there a deal right now? Pricing is listed in Canadian dollars with steep sale discounts: the 100 gram Fill is $219.99 CAD, the 200 gram Fill is $229.99 CAD, and the 400 gram Fill is $239.99 CAD, each currently shown at a $85.00 CAD sale price. Champion also offers horse-rescue discounts, reflecting Kristen's own history of working with and rescuing horses. Sizes for every weight run 70", 72", 75", 78", 81", 84", 86", 88", 90", 92", and 94".
How do you order, and what happens after the sale? Champion Horse Blankets ships across North America, including the USA, and orders are placed directly through championhorseblankets.com. The company stands behind fit with 30-day postage-paid returns, and the site provides full sizing and how-to-measure guides so you can dial in the cut before the blanket arrives. Because Kristen also runs Mountainview Horse Blanket Laundry and Repair, customers gain a single source for professional cleaning, reproofing, and repair long after the original purchase, extending the working life of every blanket.
What makes Champion Horse Blankets waterproof and durable?
Every Champion blanket is fully waterproof and built from 1200 Denier material so it stands up to wind, rain, cold, and playful horses. The neck covers use the same 1200D ripstop fabric. Champion works directly with its manufacturer for tighter quality control, and owner Kristen personally oversees each blanket from start to shipping.
Do you carry pony and draft sizes?
Yes. Champion handles both pony and draft sizes, currently carrying a selection from 54" to 94", with newer orders accommodating sizes from 34' to 96'. There is a full range of blankets in the pony sizing, where rainsheets are currently offered. If you have a special need, just call and Kristen will do all she can to accommodate.
Can I get a custom size or a personalized blanket?
Yes. Champion can offer alterations to sizing and, when the material is on hand, can make new blankets in mini sizes. You can also have your horse's name, stable, or training facility information embroidered on through a local company Champion works with (additional charges apply). For custom requests, e-mail with your details and Champion will provide a quotation.
What products does Champion Horse Blankets offer besides waterproof blankets?
Beyond waterproof horse blankets and stable blankets, Champion carries Rain Sheets, coolers with satin chest lining to absorb moisture, and waterproof neck covers in 1200D ripstop to protect your horse's mane. Newer additions include full neck sheets from mini to draft, fly sheets with extra UV protection, and High Viz piping. The product line is being expanded with new designs added regularly.
Does Champion also clean and repair horse blankets?
Yes. Owner Kristen also runs Mountainview Horse Blanket Laundry and Repair, which offers wash, waterproofing, and repair for all types of riding apparel and specializes in horse blankets. Only products meant for horse blankets, breathable and waterproof materials, are used. Repairs are done with professional-grade cordova, buckles, webbing, and threads to match the quality of the original blanket.

Champion Horse Blankets is owned by Kristen O'Connor, an active rider and breeder who has been involved with horses for over 40 years. She runs the business hands-on from her home ranch where she works with horses full-time.

The 200 gram medium and 400 gram heavy turnout blankets use a 1200 Denier waterproof ripstop outer shell. The 100 gram light blanket steps up to a 1250 Denier waterproof ripstop shell. Ripstop construction resists tears from pasture mischief and turnout play.
What fill weights are available?
Champion offers three fill weights: 100 gram, 200 gram, and 400 gram. The 100 gram is the lightweight option for shoulder seasons and milder cold, the 200 gram is the medium-weight everyday winter blanket, and the 400 gram is the heavyweight for the coldest, wettest weather. This lets you match the blanket to the season rather than overheating or under-protecting your horse.
How much do Champion turnout blankets cost?
Regular prices are listed in Canadian dollars: the 100 gram Fill is $219.99 CAD, the 200 gram Fill is $229.99 CAD, and the 400 gram Fill is $239.99 CAD. At the time of research, all three were shown at a sale price of $85.00 CAD. Pricing and availability are confirmed directly on championhorseblankets.com.

All three fill weights are offered in sizes 70", 72", 75", 78", 81", 84", 86", 88", 90", 92", and 94". The blankets are designed to fit a bit on the roomy side. The site provides full sizing and how-to-measure guides to help you choose the right size.
Are Champion Horse Blankets waterproof?
Yes. All Champion turnout blankets use a waterproof ripstop outer shell (1200 Denier on the 200 and 400 gram, 1250 Denier on the 100 gram light). They are designed to keep your horse warm and dry through wet, cold conditions, which is exactly the kind of weather they were developed in within coastal British Columbia.
What features do the turnout blankets include?
Each blanket includes a tail flap, twice-adjustable chest closures, cross surcingles, adjustable leg straps, a fleece wither protector, and shoulder gussets for freedom of movement. There are also three rings at the neck to attach a hood, plus front closure straps for a customizable fit. These shared features mean a barn can standardize fitting across multiple horses.
What is the inner lining made of, and why does it matter?
The 200 gram blanket uses a 220 Ripstop Nylon lining chosen to prevent tugging on the horse's hair. The 100 gram light blanket uses a 210 Ripstop Nylon silky-feel lining that is shine-enhancing, anti-static, and anti-bacterial to support optimum skin and coat health. The lining protects the coat from rubbing and helps keep the horse comfortable under the blanket.
What colors are available?
Champion turnout blankets come in three color options: Black with Burgundy Trim and High Vis Piping, Black with Burgundy Trim, and a Purple / Teal Plaid. The high-visibility piping option adds visibility in low light or wet, gray conditions.
Can I return a blanket if it doesn't fit?
Yes. Champion Horse Blankets offers 30-day postage-paid returns, so you can confirm the fit on your horse without risking the cost of return shipping. The site also publishes how-to-measure and sizing guides so you can get the fit right before the blanket arrives, reducing the need for returns altogether.
Does Champion Horse Blankets offer discounts for rescues?
Yes. Champion offers horse-rescue discounts, which reflects Kristen's own background of working with, owning, and rescuing horses over her decades in the sport. Rescue organizations should reach out through the site's contact form for details on qualifying.
Does Champion offer blanket cleaning and repair?
Yes. Beyond manufacturing, Kristen runs a professional horse blanket cleaning and repair operation, Mountainview Horse Blanket Laundry and Repair. The company has offered professional blanket cleaning for over 20 years, and that repair experience is what inspired the blanket line. Customers get a single source for cleaning, reproofing, and repair to extend a blanket's working life.
How do I order from Champion Horse Blankets?
Orders are placed directly through the official online store at championhorseblankets.com, which lists each product, price, size, and color. The company ships across North America, including the USA. Product or order questions can be sent through the contact form on the site.
Why did the company start making its own blankets?
Champion Horse Blankets began as a local horse blanket repair and laundry service. Years of seeing where other blankets failed, and which materials and seams gave out, inspired Kristen to design and manufacture a more durable blanket of her own. That repair-bench perspective is the brand's core differentiator: the blankets are engineered to not fail at the points she repaired most often.
Are Champion blankets suitable for ponies and mini horses?
Yes. In addition to full-size horse blankets, Champion offers turnout blankets sized for ponies and mini horses, including a 100 gram fill pony/mini option. The same waterproof ripstop construction and protective features carry across the smaller sizes, so ponies and minis get the same weather protection as full-size horses.
What makes Champion different from big-box blanket brands?
Champion is rider-owned and operated by a lifelong horsewoman who personally oversees the line, rather than a large impersonal manufacturer. The blankets pair heavy 1200 to 1250 Denier waterproof ripstop shells with coat-friendly ripstop nylon linings, roomy gusseted cuts, and a 30-day postage-paid return policy. Combined with in-house cleaning and repair through Mountainview Horse Blanket Laundry and Repair, owners get long-term support, not just a one-time sale.
