About EquiSpirit Trailers

With an original commitment and unifying principle to always operate in the overall interest and well being of horses, Tom and Neva Scheve (owners) entered the horse trailer business in 1983. In 1988, they began designing horse trailers for manufacturers such as Merhow, Trail-et, and McQuerry. At that time, they also developed their own lines, EquiSport and ThoroSport, which eventually culminated into their current line, EquiSpirit.

While continually doing research and development on their line of horse trailers, Neva decided to share the knowledge they had been acquiring. Neva, along with husband Tom authored three books on horse trailers. The first was Hawkins Guide: Horse Trailering On The Road , which was a state by state guide about laws and requirements pertaining to horse trailers, with a comprehensive list of available roadside assistance and veterinary services. Equine Emergencies On The Road, with Jim Hamilton DVM, was the next book, which helped people prevent, be prepared, and effectively handle emergencies while trailering. Neva's latest book, The Complete Guide To Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailerpublished by Howell Publishing, is the nationally acclaimed accepted text book on horse trailers, giving comprehensive information on all aspects of buying and owning a trailer. In addition, Neva and Tom continually share their information through articles and by giving safety clinics at major Equine Horse Trade shows, such as Horse World Expo, Equine Extravaganza.

The EquiSpirit Difference

Safety In Design.
Tom and Neva believe that for a horse trailer to be safe, it should be roomy and unrestrictive in the head and leg area. It has to be well-ventilated with good airflow. It has to have a feeling of openness with good lighting. It has to be inviting for horses to get into and out of, with no sharp hooks, catches or latches anywhere in the horse area. That's why you will find all EquiSpirit models to be walk-thru style trailers, as opposed to the manger or slant-load style. The openness, particularly in the head area, allows horses to eat more naturally, feel less claustrophobic, and gives your horses the room to stretch their necks and cough out unwanted hay dust and debris. This helps prevent stress, and reduces the chances of shipping fever, colic and dehydration. Read more.

Safety In Construction.

Tom and Neva believe that if your trailer survives, chances are, your horses will too. Therefore, your horses should have the same tough protection you have in the cab of your tow vehicle – a cage-like, technologically advanced, steel structure to give you maximum protection against impact. Using the best of today's composite technology, EquiSpirit trailers surround your horses in a cage-like steel frame, using non-rusting, tough, highly advanced materials such as galvanealed, galvanized, and powder-coated steel. With full height galvanealed (no rust) steel side walls, a tubular steel roll bar molded throughout the entire fiberglass roof, and a galvanized all steel frame with steel cross members supporting a #1 grade pressure-treated wood floor, your horse and trailer stand the best chance of surviving the impact of a major accident.

In non-structural parts, Styrofoam insulation is wedged between the inner steel and outer aluminum skin. The outer aluminum skin takes the weather well, and provides a lightweight attractive appearance. The result is a well-balanced, stable tracking trailer behind your tow vehicle that will stand up to the test of major and minor accidents. In addition, all EquiSpirits use only the finest aftermarket products, such as Hehr safety glass windows, Tri-mark latches, and so on. The final result is that you and your horses truly benefit from the best use of today's advanced materials, and therefore, get the best protection and the best ride possible.

Take The EquiSpirit Tour To See For Yourself!

As you take the tour on the Equi Spirit website, compare EquiSpirit features to other trailers. Review our special safety butt and breast bar latch system, which allows you to hook the butt bar in seconds after the horse enters the trailer, and protects you from the horse bolting back out. The easy-to-release breast bar is a great and convenient safety feature that comes in handy if your horse gets hung over the bar. The full rear doors give greater security on the road and when you're unloading your horses. These EquiSpirit features, and all the others, are designed for the safety and well being of the horse and handler. Other features available are the extra-large, and double extra large options for larger horses. Take our Tour so that you can see what we are talking about.

2 Horse Tag-Along Non-Dressing Room Trailer

The 2 Horsemodel is an excellent alternative if you do not require dressing facilities or a tack room. It provides you with a shorter trailer that weighs less. Fully loaded with all the EquiSpirit standard features, this particular 2 horse trailer model gives you easy load/unload capability, lots of large screened windows for ventilation, additional non-claustrophobic head area space in the wedge nose, and quick-removable dividers and posts to create one large stall. This trailer is great for quick trips, traveling to lessons, or getting to the vet. (Weight 2,780 lbs.)

2 Horse Trailer Gooseneck w/Dress/Tack Area
For those who have 2 horses, haul a lot, like to drive pick-ups, and need extra room for tack or sleeping, then the EquiSpirit 2 Horse Gooseneck trailer is ideal. If you need even more room, such as a larger dressing room, a mid-tack, or even a weekender camping area, the heavier gooseneck tongue weight sitting over the truck axles makes this (and all our 2 horse gooseneck trailers) ideal. You can add additional footage length without disrupting the balance of a smooth ride. In addition, our dual insulated wall provides a more controlled inside environment and outside sound reduction for both you and your horses. (Trailer Weight 4,400 lbs.)
