About Our Company

Pegasus EquiCare Inc. was founded by Michelle and Erik in 2001. Michelle explains how they came up with the concept for Pegasus Airboots:

Erik and I went to high school together in a small town (La Center, Washington ) and were both deeply involved with horses in different ways. I rode my horse bareback all over the valley and town and we both rode our horses sometimes to school ... Erik and his entire family competed in all kinds of gaming, endurance, and sponsored events at their ranch through all the years we grew up. His knowledge of competition and horses was invaluable in creating a new product .

Erik and I met again in 2000. Now Erik had an International business degree from University of Washington and I had operated a design buisiness for many years. We decided to combine our interests a new business creating truly user - friendly horse products that would solve some obvious problems that we saw with what was available on the market.

In our research and in talking to dozens of riders we found that horse support boots needed some updating. People hated how irritating they were to put on , straps and velcro sticking everywhere... the bare velcro straps would fray and the boot would need replacing too often. Also, they were stiff and hot not allowing the skin to breath. It was too difficult to get the right fit with all the different sizes.

It was not hard to find a product to begin working with. After seven prototypes, consulting veterinarians as we progressed the product - we had a incredibly great support boot that solved all of the above problems. We also made them soft and comfortable for the horse, and beautiful in color and design to also appeal to a very large market : Women !

Pegasus Airboots

Pegasus AirBoots

are constructed of the highest quality, closed cell neoprene available, Perforated for cooling breath-ability. The ventilated material allows excess heat and moisture to dissipate. Microorganisms that cause fungal diseases, thrive in warm, moist environments. Excess heat can cause break down of skin tissue, as well as discomfort. Excellent for medicinal use, offering gentle protection while healing takes place under a veterinarian's guidance. Slim, classic lines enhance your horse's beauty. Luxurious Ultrasuede ™ and embroidered detailing give your AirBoots a quality look and feel. We will always strive to bring you the best in color, design and tough, durable craftsmanship.

Pegasus Platinum Bell Boot

Designed with the same high quality workmanship as the Pegasus Airboot, the main difference with the Pegasus Platinum Bell Boot from other high quality bell boots is that these boots have a 'suede' reinforced closure strap - preventing the most common problem of the velcro strap ripping in half after repeated use- which shortens the life. They are "No- Turn" like other high quality bell boots and have a tough Kevlar strike -zone.

What Sets Pegasus Airboots Apart From Competitors?

The Airboots are perforated neoprene so they allow the skin to breath, which is healthier. When you use our Airboots, excessive heat and sweating is greatly reduced and comfort for the horse increased. You can keep them on for longer periods then other equine boot products and we have had many people write us to let us know their vet approved the Airboot for protection and support use during an leg injury recovery period with wonderful results.

Another huge advantage over any other boot on the market is the way they our Airboots wrap to fit. This allows you to know the size will be exactly right- without confusion about front legs or hind - they will fit both. Besides a perfect fit, our Airboots are fast and easy to put on - with a single large piece of velcro under the "wing" - and just two straps . Pressure is even across the entire length of leg - no uneven pressure points, like with strappy boots. Dirt and sand stay out , because fit is exact and the 'suede' binding at the top seals out debris. There is no gapping, top or bottom when they are wrapped correctly.

Are Pegasus Airboots Easy To Clean?

YES! Keeping them clean is easy - they are machine washable. We recommend you thow them in with an old towl to help agitate , and make sure the mild soap is totally rinsed out. Solid White can be pre-soaked with usually very good results. Air -dry them (out of the sun, no dryers or bleach please ) We do have gators that keep them from collecting seeds and burrs if you are a back country rider- and don't want to spend time picking them off .

What Do Customer Say About Pegasus Airboots?

From my research, Pegasus Airboots are the best fitting and easiest to use protective boots on the market today. A simple no nonsense design offers the protection both performance and trail horses need for safe rides and injury reduced competition.

What exactly is a Pegasus Airboot?

The Pegasus Airboot is an all-day equine leg-protection wrap that delivers the same kind of even, conforming support a veterinarian achieves with a properly applied vet wrap, but without the time, skill, or risk of a too-tight bandage. Each boot is built from closed-cell neoprene that has been perforated so heat and sweat dissipate instead of cooking the leg. A soft inner splint pad cushions the tendons and absorbs concussion, while an inner touch-tape panel distributes pressure evenly across the cannon bone with no pinch points. The result is a turnout and trail boot that supports without overheating.

Who makes the Pegasus Airboot?

The boot is made by Pegasus EquiCare Inc. of Vancouver, Washington, the company Michelle and Erik founded after first sketching out the airboot concept in 2001. Erik Kahn serves as President and Michelle Hamblin as Vice President. Beyond the flagship airboot, Pegasus EquiCare has built out a small family of horse and pet protection products including tailguards, gators, and bell boots, all sold under the same hand-on, owner-run philosophy that started with two high-school friends from a small town and one stubborn idea about how leg protection should actually fit.

What materials go into every boot?

Pegasus Airboots are constructed of the highest-quality closed-cell neoprene, perforated throughout so the leg breathes and stays cool and dry even during 12-plus hours of turnout. A reinforced, very-sticky touch-tape (Velcro) closure system holds the boot securely without slipping, and the straps are reinforced specifically to keep the touch tape from fraying over years of wash cycles. Inside, a soft splint pad and a fetlock strap that provides gentle upward lift round out a build that reviewers consistently describe as sturdy but still flexible.

How does the airboot support the leg?

Two overlapping touch-tape closures, one around the side and one across the bottom, wrap the boot snugly around the leg for maximum flexibility and zero pressure points, which is why owners report no rub marks even after long wear. Stitching lines are built into the boot to show exactly where it should sit on an average horse, making correct placement close to fool-proof once you learn the technique. The perforated neoprene lets the leg shed grass, sand, mud, ice, and snow while staying ventilated, so the boot can stay on through wet weather and still keep working.

Which horses and riders is it built for?

The Airboot fits horses roughly 14 to 18 hands on either front or hind legs, and a pony size is also offered, so a single design covers most of the barn. It is ideal for horses that need ongoing tendon support during turnout rather than hard work sessions, for trail riders who deal with mud and water, and for owners of finicky horses, one reviewer noted her horse does not even notice the boot going on and stands still instead of yanking the leg away. Because the boots are machine washable, they suit anyone tired of scrubbing caked sports-medicine boots by hand.

How do you buy a pair and what backs it?

Pegasus Airboots are sold directly through pegasusairboots.com and through equestrian retailers, where the solid-color and patterned (including a Zebra print) versions typically run around $74.95 per pair, with the manufacturer's direct and group pricing often landing lower. Pegasus EquiCare stands firmly behind the product with a one-year unconditional guarantee, and the boots are guaranteed not to harm tendons and ligaments when applied correctly. Buyers note the company genuinely stands by its product, replacing or making good on any issue within that guarantee window.

The Solution Section (FAQ)
What are Pegasus Airboots made of?
Pegasus AirBoots are constructed of high-quality, closed-cell neoprene that is perforated for cooling breathability, so excess heat and moisture can dissipate. The ventilated material helps the skin breathe and reduces the warm, moist conditions that fungal microorganisms thrive in. They are finished with luxurious Ultrasuede™ and embroidered detailing for a quality look and feel.
How do Pegasus Airboots fit, and do I need different boots for front and hind legs?
Pegasus Airboots wrap to fit, so the same size fits both front and hind legs with no confusion about which leg they go on. They fasten with a single large piece of velcro under the wing plus two straps, spreading pressure evenly across the whole length of the leg instead of creating uneven pressure points like strappy boots. A suede binding at the top seals out dirt and sand, with no gapping at the top or bottom when wrapped correctly.
Can Pegasus Airboots be used while a horse recovers from a leg injury?
Yes. The perforated neoprene reduces excess heat and sweating and increases comfort, so the boots can stay on for longer periods than many other equine boot products. They are excellent for medicinal use, offering gentle protection while healing takes place under a veterinarian's guidance, and many owners have written to say their vet approved the AirBoot for protection and support during a leg-injury recovery period.
Are Pegasus Airboots easy to clean?
Yes, they are machine washable. Pegasus recommends washing them with an old towel to help agitate, rinsing the mild soap out completely, and air-drying out of the sun with no dryers or bleach. Solid white boots can be pre-soaked, and gators are available to keep the boots from collecting seeds and burrs for back-country riders.
How is the Pegasus Platinum Bell Boot different from other bell boots?
The Pegasus Platinum Bell Boot is built with the same high-quality workmanship as the Pegasus Airboot, but its key difference is a suede-reinforced closure strap that prevents the common problem of the velcro strap ripping in half after repeated use. Like other high-quality bell boots, it is a No-Turn design, and it adds a tough Kevlar strike-zone for extra protection.
Who makes Pegasus Airboots and what disciplines are they used in?
Pegasus Airboots are made by Pegasus EquiCare Inc., founded in 2001 by Michelle and Erik in La Center, Washington, after developing the boot through seven prototypes with input from veterinarians. The boots are used by barrel racers, cutting horses, and both performance and trail horses, and they come in a wide range of colors and designs.
Where can I learn more or order Pegasus Airboots?
You can find more information and place an order through the Pegasus Airboots website at https://www.pegasusairboots.com. Making sure your horse has comfortable, cooling leg protection and support helps keep his mind on his work and his legs ready for safe rides and reduced-injury competition.
How do Pegasus Airboots support a horse's leg?
They wrap the leg the way a properly applied vet wrap does, giving even, conforming support without pressure points. An inner touch-tape panel spreads pressure across the cannon bone, a soft splint pad protects the tendons, and a fetlock strap adds gentle upward lift. The design supports the leg without restricting movement, so the horse can still do its job.
Are Pegasus Airboots breathable, or do they overheat the leg?
Breathability is the whole point of the design. The closed-cell neoprene is perforated specifically so heat and sweat can escape, which keeps the leg noticeably cooler than solid sports-medicine boots. That is why they work well as all-day turnout boots for 12 or more hours of wear.
Who founded Pegasus Airboots?
The company was founded by Michelle and Erik, who first developed the airboot concept in 2001. They run Pegasus EquiCare Inc. out of Vancouver, Washington, with Erik Kahn as President and Michelle Hamblin as Vice President. The two were high-school friends from a small town who built the business around their original leg-protection idea.
What sizes do Pegasus Airboots come in?
The standard Airboot fits horses approximately 14 to 18 hands on either front or hind legs, and a pony size is also offered. Reviewers have found the fully adjustable wrap fits a wide range of horses despite the small number of size options. The boots can be worn on front or hind legs interchangeably.
Can Pegasus Airboots be machine washed?
Yes. Unlike traditional sports-medicine boots, Pegasus Airboots are machine washable, so you can simply toss them in the washing machine to clean off caked mud. The reinforced straps are built to keep the touch tape from fraying through repeated wash cycles. They can also get wet during use and keep functioning.
How much do Pegasus Airboots cost?
At retail, the solid-color and patterned versions typically run around $74.95 per pair. Buying direct from the manufacturer, or through group or promotional pricing, often brings the price down, with reviewers citing figures in the high-$60s. Pricing can vary by retailer and by color or pattern.
Do Pegasus Airboots come in colors or patterns?
Yes. They are offered in solid colors such as black, including a black-with-trim option, as well as patterned versions like a Zebra print. The patterned boots use the same closed-cell perforated neoprene construction as the solid colors. Availability of specific colors can vary by retailer.
Are Pegasus Airboots hard to put on?
There is a short learning curve. The two overlapping touch-tape closures and the very-sticky Velcro can take a few tries to master, and some reviewers needed practice before it became quick. Once you have the technique, owners report putting them on in half the time of multi-strap boots, and built-in stitching lines show exactly where the boot should sit.
Will the Velcro or boots rub my horse's legs?
When the boots are applied correctly, reviewers consistently report no rub marks or irritation, even after long turnout. The pressure is distributed evenly with no pinch points. A few owners of unusually large-boned horses noted the rough Velcro edge could rub, so correct sizing and placement matter.
Are Pegasus Airboots for riding or for turnout?
They are designed primarily as all-weather turnout boots for horses that need ongoing tendon support during extended wear, often 12 or more hours a day. That said, owners also use them successfully for trail riding in mud and rain, where they stay securely in place. They are best for support rather than hard arena work sessions.
Is there a guarantee on Pegasus Airboots?
Yes. They come with a one-year unconditional guarantee, and the company is known for genuinely standing behind the product. The boots are also guaranteed not to harm tendons or ligaments when applied correctly. Owners report that the company makes good on any issues within the guarantee period.
Will Pegasus Airboots keep mud, sand, and debris out?
Yes. Reviewers say the boots effectively exclude grass, sand, mud, ice, and snow, so the leg is not irritated by debris during turnout or trail rides. The snug touch-tape closures hold them in place even in muddy and rainy conditions. They stay put rather than sliding down the leg.
Why is the boot called an Airboot?
The name comes from the perforated, breathable neoprene that lets air, heat, and moisture move through the boot. Where solid boots trap heat against the leg, the Airboot is designed to let the leg breathe and stay cool. That airflow is the core feature that distinguishes it from sealed sports-medicine boots.
How do Pegasus Airboots compare to sports-medicine boots?
They provide similar conforming tendon support but run noticeably cooler thanks to the perforated neoprene, and they are machine washable rather than hand-scrubbed. Many owners also find them easier to apply once mastered, with just two closures instead of multiple straps. The main trade-off is the initial learning curve and a more utilitarian, unfinished bottom edge.
Where can I buy Pegasus Airboots?
They are sold directly through pegasusairboots.com and through a range of equestrian retailers that carry the solid and patterned versions. Buying direct from Pegasus EquiCare often gets you the best pricing and the full one-year guarantee. Pattern and color availability can differ between the manufacturer and individual retailers.
