So What Does Hoof Beat Offer My Horse?
Hoof Beat is a nutritional supplement designed to support the growth of strong hooves and good bone development. Dry, flaky, and brittle hooves can be an indication that your horse's diet is not properly balanced. Nutritional substances that aid in the building and maintaining of strong healthy hooves are Biotin, Calcium, Phosphorus, Vitamin D, Magnesium, Zinc, Lysine, and Methionine. Hoof Beat has all the supporting nutrients that are essential for building strong hooves. Hoof Beat also contains extruded soybeans, a good source of omega 3 and omega 6.
What Are The Ingredients For Hoof Beat?
Biotin - is a water soluble B complex vitamin sometimes referred to as Vitamin H. When fed at the appropriate levels, it will improve the condition of the surface keratin tissues - hoof walls, sole, frog, and the white line junctions. Biotin should be fed at 5-10 milligrams per day for donkeys and ponies, 15 milligrams per day for riding horses, and up to 70 milligrams for heavy horses. Each scoop of Hoof Beat supplies 20 milligrams.
Vitamin D - is a fat soluble vitamin that affects the availability of calcium and phosphorus. It can come from nutritional supplementation or by the reaction of direct sunlight on the horse's skin. Deficiencies are cause by limited sunlight such as horses being kept inside most of the time and limited sun-cured hay. Vitamin D is necessary for the assimilation of calcium and phosphorus in the formation and maintenance of strong bones. Vitamin D protects against the loss of amino acids through the kidneys.
Calcium- is necessary to build strong bones and hooves. Calcium functions to aid cell wall permeability which aids in healing. Calcium also helps muscles to contract and helps blood to clot. Calcium also affects the availability of phosphorus. Calcium acts as a stabilizer or activator for enzymes and functions as a nerve activator.
Phosphorus- is necessary to build strong bones and hooves, for building muscle tissue, increases energy metabolism, and is essential to the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and enzyme activity.
Magnesium - helps to reduce stress and irritability, prevents grass tetany, promotes bone and hoof development, and insures proper appetite. Magnesium aids in protein digestion.
Trace Minerals - Zinc, Copper, Manganese, and Cobalt are supplied in the chelated form along with the inorganic sources. This means they are attached to an amino acid for better assimilation.
Zinc - has a primary role in healing the epithelial tissues, such as hoof wall epidermal cells, dermis, and blood vessels, for cell reproduction, maintenance, and repair. Zinc is important for the synthesis of collagen, keratin, cell enveloped proteins, and enzyme function.
Copper- is needed for synthesis and maintenance of elastic connective tissues such as collagen, keratin, and elastin found in the blood vessels of the hoof. Copper also works with iron, cobalt and Vitamin B-12 in the formation of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin carries oxygen to all the cells for healing and repair.
Manganese - it is important for the maintenance of the skeletal bone matrix growth of connective tissue, and blood clotting. It is required for the formation of chondroitin sulfate synthesis, which is important for the maintenance and repair of joint tissue.
Cobalt and Iron - are needed for the building of hemoglobin in the blood which enables the horse to repair tissues.
Iodine- controls the horse's body metabolism which aids in tissue repair.
Amino Acids-are the building blocks of protein. There are two classes of amino acids, essential and non-essential. The non-essential amino acids are ones that the horse can synthesize on its own. The essential amino acids are ones that the horse has to receive in his feed on a daily basis. Two such essential amino acids are lysine and methionine.
Lysine - an essential amino acid that is a large constituent of collagen. Collagen, elastin, and keratin are the proteins of connective tissue, elastic tissue, and hair. Collagen is the intracellular cement substance.
Methionine - an essential amino acid that is found in keratin. The hoof wall is made up primarily of keratin.
