Who develops the Farrier's Magic line?

Farrier's Magic began on a horse farm in Berlin Center, Ohio, at the hands of an entrepreneur with a heart for horses and a background in pharmacology. An avid and well-known harness racer in his time, he tested and perfected liniments, hoof creams, and supplements in his "laboratory" — the barn — and fellow horsemen, breeders, and harness racers came from far and wide to have him work his "Magic." Today Republic Mills, Inc. of Okolona, Ohio carries that heart forward, formulating every product with the same standard of "Excellence in Equine." The full line is developed by an equine pharmacologist with over 40 years of experience.

What exactly is Farrier's Magic Plus™?

Farrier's Magic Plus™ is a scientifically developed hoof supplement built around 20 mg of biotin per serving, delivered in a tasty, palatable alfalfa-hay-based pellet that horses readily eat. It provides the nutritional building blocks to support healthy hooves and a shiny coat: the label states it "Helps cracked hooves and weak walls, restores hoof growth and helps hold shoes longer," and "Also provides healthy skin and coat." It is fortified with methionine specifically to aid biotin absorption and to support connective tissue health. The product is made in the USA with domestic and imported ingredients.

What is in the formula?

The full ingredient list is Alfalfa Meal, Yeast Culture, Lecithin, Gelatin, DL-Methionine, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C Supplement), Copper Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, L-Tyrosine, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Inositol, Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide (Eddi), Bentonite Clay, Water, and Natural and Artificial Flavors. Per serving the supplement supplies roughly 20 mg biotin, 247 mg zinc, 91.9 mg copper, 1289 mg Vitamin C, 487 mg choline, and 0.81 mg iodine. Biotin (vitamin B7) is required for the production of keratin, the main protein that forms a strong, durable hoof structure as well as healthy skin and coat.

How do you feed it?

Feeding is simple: add 6 oz per head daily during the loading phase, then reduce to 3 oz per head daily once desired results are achieved. Because hoof grows slowly from the coronary band down, consistent daily feeding over several months is what produces visibly stronger walls and faster, healthier growth. An 11-pound bucket provides roughly a 58-day supply at the 3 oz maintenance rate. The alfalfa-pellet base means most horses accept it readily as a top-dress over normal grain.
