How Is The Soap At Blackberry Creek Different From Competitors?

Unlike commercial soaps, natural soap contains no preservatives. Therefore natural soap does have a shelf life. Blackberry Creek tells me their soap has a shelf life of about one year. It is always best to store natural soap in a cool, dry place until you're ready to use it. The fact that natural soap does have a shelf life is an incentive to you to buy your soap online from a reputable source. Natural soap is expensive to stock in specialty stores and store owners are reluctant to dispose of obsolete inventory. Always smell the soap found on specialty store shelves to make sure the soap has not become rancid.

Note: Blackberry Creek creates their soap in small batches to insure the rapid turnover of inventory. It's a more expensive way but the best way to run a natural soap company.

A family soap kitchen born from a Christmas gift

Blackberry Creek Soaps began in 1995, when Nancy Young and her daughter mixed a single batch of handmade soap to give as Christmas gifts. That first bar was an Oat 'n Honey, and the calls that followed, asking where to buy more, turned a holiday project into a family business. Nancy and her husband Jim built the company together, and after Nancy's passing, longtime product-maker Kathy Sheeley purchased the business from Jim to carry the tradition forward.

Every bar still hand-stirred for at least 20 minutes

These soaps are handmade from scratch and hand-stirred the old-fashioned way, with each batch needing to be stirred for at least 20 minutes before it sets. Nancy's mother loved working the stirring step, Jim crafted the wooden molds that give each bar its uniform shape, and his father cut and folded the wrappers well into his 90s. When the operation outgrew the kitchen, the family moved 80 miles to a cabin in the woods and finished the lower level into a dedicated soap factory.

All-natural ingredients, no harsh chemicals or dyes
Blackberry Creek's bars are made with the finest natural ingredients and are free of harsh chemicals and artificial dyes, which makes them gentle enough for all skin types and for sensitive skin. The line leans on nourishing fats and botanicals rather than synthetic detergents, so each bar cleans while leaving skin feeling, and smelling, great. This natural-first philosophy carries across the soaps, lotions, body balms, lip balms and scrubs the company makes.

Shoofly repels biting insects with three essential oils

The Shoofly line is Blackberry Creek's all-natural bug repellent, offered as both a bar soap and a spray. Instead of harsh chemicals, it uses a gentle but powerful blend of eucalyptus, basil and cedar oils to help keep mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies and most biting insects away. That makes it a barn-and-trail-friendly option for horse owners who want flea and fly relief without spraying synthetic pesticides on their skin.

A full line of scented bars priced around $6.50

Beyond Shoofly, the catalog spans dozens of fragrances and recipes, with most signature bars priced at $6.50 and the Shoofly Soap frequently marked down (listed at $6.50, $5.00). Scents and varieties include Blackberry, Raspberry Vanilla, Autumn, Refreshing, Lakeside and the original Oat 'n Honey, alongside skin-care extras like lotions and lip balms. The variety lets shoppers build a mixed set of everyday bars plus seasonal and specialty options.

Order direct online or stock the whole product line

Products are sold directly through the company's website at getblackberrycreeksoaps.com, where the full catalog, individual product pages and an online cart let customers browse by scent and add bars one at a time. The dedicated shooflybugspray.com site spotlights the Shoofly repellent range for shoppers focused on insect control. Because the bars are still made in small, hand-stirred batches, buying direct supports a genuinely handcrafted, family-run operation.
