Equinistic Healing Certification

Equinistic Healing Certification is unique in the world of horse therapy in that it is horse inspired and the horses heal without human intervention or interpretation.

About Liz Mitten Ryan

Artist, writer, animal communicator, horse breeder and trainer, Liz moved with her one family herd of warmblood horses to Gateway 2 Ranch, a secluded 320-acre land in the heart of the Nicola Valley, British Columbia, Canada. She and her architect husband Kevin, over 18 years have built a rustic Guest Ranch with a 4-bedroom Guest House, a tent cabin area nestled in the woods with a Native American Spirit Lodge, showers, toilets and fire circle.

The Barn/house, a half mile across the property, is a connected space where the horses and Liz and Kevin live side by side. It has a large open sawdust-filled area with central seating for humans and horses to gather and interact at liberty.

The Horses Roam Free On The 320 Acres And Return Each Morning To Work With People

The horses believe they should train people rather than people training them. Visitors come from all over the world for Equinisity retreats and during May to November the herd, though free to roam in the meadows, forests, hills and lakes of the property, return each morning to teach and heal humans.

How The Horses Heal — Message From The Horses

"Do you realize humans that at this time in our evolution your vibration is elevating to a place where you are beginning to tune into our channel. You are beginning to notice us for the first time as spiritual equals, higher consciousness in a different shape from yours. We, and the rest of the natural world share a direct connection with the ALL and are able to see the invisible world of spirit. When we see you, we see all that is around you. That includes your concept of past present and future as in our world all is visible all-ways. It also includes your spiritual perfection as a higher immortal soul and any distortions to your divine plan.

You see humans are playing a game of human mass mind belief here on the physical plane but just like the story of the Emperor's New Clothes, we are not playing the same game and we see only the truth of you.

You see humans are playing a game of human mass mind belief here on the physical plane but just like the story of the Emperor's New Clothes, we are not playing the same game and we see only the truth of you.

In this way we can make adjustments to put things back to the pattern and vibration that is your etheric blueprint, your pattern of perfection. That is how we heal you. If you observe us you will see how we work together with the energy, changing, removing, releasing, and bringing into being the perfect pattern. We all have our unique ways of transmuting energy. Some of us do it by meditation, connecting to source and downloading the information, then implanting it in the person. Others simply vibrate at the perfect frequency and tune the person. We send it all to spirit to be corrected along with the energy for the whole herd.

Accessing universal truth, we sweep the energy fields, sometimes challenging mis-belief and when necessary physically breaking it up and allowing release, then holding the harmonic note to fix it in the body.

Some of the herd leaders are the wise ones and you will often see them holding a healing circle or coming in to fine tune an adjustment. Tesoro and Adoro (the steers) take the notes higher and higher, elevating and refining them — they are mostly in higher states of meditation. Hyperion, the youngest and most recently from spirit, clearly interfaces with the invisible and with innocence and bravery he manifests perfection. It is our calling to help and heal humans, bringing them collective unity with all of creation. Here we are free to act accordingly."

How do the horses heal without human intervention?

The signature Equinistic Healing approach is "unique in the world of horse therapy in that it is horse inspired and the horses heal without human intervention or interpretation." During morning sessions (9:00 AM to lunch) the herd roams freely in a large paddock while guests meditate, learn horse language and connect at liberty. Guests describe the horses choosing to approach, breaking the heart open through their silent language, and facilitating healing on what one author-guest called a cellular, DNA level.

What is included, and where do guests stay?
Retreats are all-inclusive and accommodate special diets. Three lodging options are offered: the Guest House (4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, lounge and a covered deck, with a healing temple topped by a crystal-pyramid roof); cabin-like wall tents in the Spirit Lodge village; and access throughout the property to the Barn House, large open barn, round pen, riding ring and the herd's obstacle playground. Organic, free-range meals draw on the garden and neighboring farms, buffet breakfast and dinner are served at the Guest House, and lunch is served at the Barn House, with evening wine, beer and spritzers provided.

How do you book a retreat?

Prospective guests view the season calendar and reserve through the "Register for a Retreat now!" link at equinisityretreats.com, or contact Liz directly by phone at or. Retreats run during the warmer season, with the winter months reserved by Liz for painting and writing. Equinistic Healing certification and liberty-training retreats are also available for those who wish to carry the work forward.

The Solution Section (FAQ)
Who is Liz Mitten Ryan — and what is Equinisity?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats: Liz Mitten Ryan is an artist, writer, animal communicator, horse breeder, and trainer. Liz moved with her one-family herd of warmblood horses to Gateway 2 Ranch — a secluded 320-acre property in the heart of the Nicola Valley, B.C., Canada. She and her architect husband Kevin have, over 18 years, built a rustic Guest Ranch including a 4-bedroom Guest House, a tent cabin area in the woods with a Native American Spirit Lodge (showers, toilets, fire circle), plus a connected Barn/house a half-mile across the property where horses, Liz, and Kevin live side by side.

The barn has a large open sawdust-filled area with central seating "for humans and horses to gather and interact at liberty."

What's "Natural Horsefriendship" — and how is the ranch managed?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats, the horses are part of the family and share an open line of communication. The ranch operates on these principles, called Natural Horsefriendship:

  • Bare feet (no shoes)
  • No whips
  • No bits
  • No instruments of torture
  • Treeless saddles or bareback pads
  • No force, no restraint
  • Invitation and reward — rather than pressure and punishment

Per the company: "The horses believe they should train people rather than people training them." Visitors come from all over the world for retreats; May to November, the herd — though free to roam meadows, forests, hills, and lakes — returns each morning to teach and heal humans.

What does an Equinisity retreat experience include?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats, retreat subjects include:

  • Liberty play and herd language
  • Fine-tuning focus, intent, and feel
  • Trust and love, shared during activities in the playground
  • Horses leaping up on tires, walking over bridges and teeter-totters, through swim noodles
  • Horses happily following like dogs or quietly cuddling with visitors, heads on laps
  • The entire herd dropping to the ground, inviting people to share rest time or morning meditation, snoring comfortably amongst a crowd of onlookers
What's energy healing with the horses — and how does it work?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats: "The horses and other animals also help on healing tables or in the open barn, raising and clearing energy like reiki masters." Per the company:

  • At Gateway, horses are not haltered and led to work on humans — they volunteer each morning returning from their walk-about
  • The herd at liberty chooses when and how the healing will take place
  • Horses work individually and together, using pattern and rhythm
  • The participant is encouraged to journal and interpret what they are experiencing, with the facilitator as horse collaborator and guide rather than psychologist

Per the company posture: this is unique in the world of horse therapy in that it is "horse inspired and the horses heal without human intervention or interpretation."

Will I learn to communicate with horses?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats: what the horses teach humans is to be in their heart space rather than their busy minds. At the retreats, exercises help discover and stay in that heart space. Per the company: "That is the place from which connection and communication, not only to animals, but to all life and higher consciousness happens. When people access that place, horses and all the animals sense the connection and open to communication."

Will I be riding horses at this retreat?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats: many people come to just experience the energy of the land and the horses. Other options include ground play and lessons in focus and intent — essentially learning to be the Lead Mare. Per the company: "The Lead Mare is the benevolent grandmother of the herd who is the wisest and most respected. She never has to use force but operates from a place of clear focus and intent; the herd parts out of respect."

Equinisity does NOT teach beginning riding — the horses are not schoolmasters but sensitive, finely tuned beings. Good riders can experience riding bitless with rope halters on treeless saddles or bareback pads, learning to ride with energy, focus, and intent rather than pressure and release.

What's the Equinistic Healing Certification — and how is it different from other certifications?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats, certification is offered at all retreats. Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of energy healing
  • 2 visits
  • 20 case studies

Per the company: "Easily acquired... much more affordable than other teachings."

Differentiation from other horse therapy certifications:

  • Horse-inspired — horses heal without human intervention or interpretation
  • Herd is at liberty in the big open barn/paddock space
  • Uses sacred geometry (holding patterns as a group) to re-configure energy of individuals and the group
  • Uses breathwork and entrainment to open and tune the heart
  • Participant journals and interprets — facilitator as horse collaborator (not psychologist)
What's included — and what does it cost — and how do I get there?

Per Equinisity Equine Retreats, retreat is all-inclusive:

  • Accommodation (Guest House sleeps 8 + tent cabin village with Spirit Lodge, showers, toilets)
  • All meals including special diets
  • Beverages: wine, beer, cider, or juices
  • All teaching

What does a typical day look like?
After a buffet breakfast, guests walk about ten minutes (or take transport) to the Barn House for morning sessions from 9:00 AM to lunch, meditating and connecting with the herd at liberty and learning horse language. Afternoons are spent following the herd across the 320 acres and visiting sacred places on the land. Evenings bring refreshments, an organic dinner, a sharing circle and a talking-stick meditation, and the final night features a sacred fire ceremony with drumming and singing.
Do I need riding experience to attend?
No. The retreat is built around meditation, connection and liberty work with horses at liberty, not on riding skill, so beginners and non-riders are welcome. Optional alternative riding is available with facilitator guidance, but it is not the focus. The emphasis is on heart-centered connection rather than equestrian technique.

The Guest House has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, lounge, covered deck and a healing temple with a crystal-pyramid roof; the Spirit Lodge village offers cabin-like wall tents with shared toilets, sinks and showers; and the Barn House and surrounding facilities are open to guests throughout the day. Yes. The retreat states that special diets are accommodated, so guests with dietary needs or preferences should make those known when registering. Meals lean heavily on organic and locally sourced ingredients, which makes accommodating many diets straightforward. It is best to confirm specific requirements directly with Liz ahead of arrival.
What time of year do retreats run?
Equinisity Retreats run during the warmer season, while Liz reserves the winter months for her painting and writing. Pricing is not published on the public pages; the all-inclusive retreat fee and certification costs are quoted through the registration process. Prospective guests are directed to view the calendar and register, or to contact Liz directly for current rates. The fee is structured as all-inclusive, covering accommodation and all meals.

What is the horse herd like?
The herd is a free, all-one-family group of warmblood horses and ponies, joined by pet cows, that lives at liberty in a large paddock and barn rather than in individual stalls. The horses participate in healing sessions, herd-language teaching and liberty play, choosing when and how to engage with guests. Liz and the herd have co-authored multiple books together, reflecting the central role the horses play in the work.
What are the books Liz has written?
Liz Mitten Ryan has co-authored a series of books with her herd, including Eden: Fifth Dimension, One With The Herd, The Truth According to Horses, Wisdom from the Herd, Life Unbridled, Up Up and Away: Naked into Truth and Sabbatical. What kinds of results do guests report?
Reviewers describe a wide range of outcomes, from emotional release and reduced anxiety to renewed clarity of life purpose and spiritual awakening. Several report physical relief as well; one guest, Kate Stewart, described reduced hip pain and no longer needing a cane, and another, Carol Ferguson, said old neck and knee injuries eased during healing sessions. Many describe the horses 'breaking the heart open' through their silent language.
Is there a sacred-fire or ceremonial element?
Yes. The final evening of a retreat features a sacred fire in the fire pit near the Spirit Lodge, where guests send wishes to spirit accompanied by drumming and singing, with the herd frequently present. Daily life also includes talking-stick ceremonies, sharing circles and meditation. Guests keep a journal throughout to record their exercises and insights.
