About Our Company

Glen Morrison successfully developed the product and began selling the Magnum Bedding(and later Quik-Pick) products directly to customers. Later the company established a number of regional dealer / distributors in the USA, Canada and Asia. The products were well received by the marketplace and the business enjoyed several years of success and growth. Unfortunately a series of internal and financial problems befell the companies in 2004 and they were forced to close late that year.

During 2005 and beyond several other companies sold old inventories and used the terms "Magnum Bedding" and "Quik-Pick" or other closely related words to describe their products. Most of this practice has now stopped. MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. and our products are not related to any of these other products, including QuikT’Pick, Magnum Pellets, and Horseman’s Choice.

Magnum Horse Bedding

Based on thorough research, MBC Magnum Horse Bedding is a product that improves the quality of horse care and reduces operating expenses for stable owners. Our product maintains respiratory health and athletic ability in horses by providing advanced techniques to achieve the lowest dust levels for pellet bedding. Our bedding also helps reduce stall ammonia levels and odor. Here is how our bedding works:

  • Shavings are hammer milled to consistent size, and compacted into pellets
  • Wood lignin (a natural binding agent) holds pellets together in compressed form
  • In stall, moisture releases compressed fiber to provide fluffy bedding
  • Smaller particles are more absorptive, easier to pick out, and produce less waste

What Sets Magnum Horse Bedding Apart From The Competition?

Horses live longer than most livestock, and your horse's well-being and athletic performance can be affected by exposure to bacteria-laden dust and mycotoxin. Unfortunately, both of these harmful elements can often be found in horse feed and bedding.

MBC Magnum Horse Bedding is modified for low dust, and the heat sterilization used in our unique pelletization process creates a compact bedding product which requires unusually low bedding replacement and disposal. Made from softwoods, MBC Magnum Horse Bedding is free from urban contaminants.

  • Significantly reduces labor, maintenance and disposal costs
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Easy to use and store
  • Healthier for your horse

Why Use Magnum Pelleted Bedding?

The development of Magnum Horse Bedding began with an interest in creating healthier, more affordable and more manageable bedding for horses. Research revealed that trees in Northern British Columbia have an opportunity to grow slower, which allows them to produce a stronger fibre. As well, these trees are not subjected to the various kinds of pollution that is evident in some areas of Southern British Columbia.

This research resulted in an engineered bedding pellet far more absorbent than other bedding on the market today. It is believed that this high absorbency factor is not only because of the stronger fibre but also due to the combination of Pine and Spruce that makes up this unique product. The results of this initial testing encouraged Magnum Bedding to move forward with their quest to develop a low dust, high absorbency wood pellet bedding.

This resulted in the birth of Magnum Horse Bedding which was first introduced in 2000.

What exactly is MBC Magnum Horse Bedding?

MBC Magnum Horse Bedding is an engineered wood-pellet stall bedding made from 100% organic softwood fiber — a combination of Pine and Spruce. The raw shavings are hammer-milled to a consistent size and compacted into small, dense, eraser-sized pellets, held together by the wood's own lignin (a natural binding agent) with no added glue or chemical binders. First introduced in 2000, the product was developed specifically to give horse owners a healthier, more affordable and more manageable alternative to loose shavings.

Who developed Magnum Bedding and who makes it today?

Glen Morrison developed the product and began selling Magnum Bedding — and later the Quik-Pick line — directly to customers, eventually building a network of regional dealers and distributors across the USA, Canada and Asia. The brand trades as MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. MBC is emphatic that its products are not related to any of the look-alike products that later borrowed the names, including QuikT'Pick, Magnum Pellets and Horseman's Choice — only genuine MBC Magnum Bedding carries its proven formulation and quality standards.

Why does the wood source in Northern British Columbia matter?

The development of Magnum Horse Bedding started with research into fiber strength, and that research pointed to the forests of Northern British Columbia. Trees there grow more slowly, which produces a stronger fiber, and they are not exposed to the kinds of pollution found in some areas of Southern B.C. The result is an engineered bedding pellet that is far more absorbent than typical bedding — a high-absorbency factor MBC attributes both to the stronger northern fiber and to the specific Pine-and-Spruce combination that makes up the pellet.

How does the pellet bedding actually work in the stall?

The pellets arrive compressed and clean. Once spread in the stall and exposed to moisture, the wood lignin releases and the compacted fiber expands from the inside out into a soft, fluffy bed. Because the particles are smaller, they are more absorptive, easier to pick out, and produce less waste than loose shavings. The expansion is dramatic: by MBC's figures, roughly one truck of traditional shavings is equivalent to four 40 lb bags of Magnum Pellets — so storage and handling shrink while bedding depth stays generous.

How does Magnum protect a horse's respiratory health?

Horses live far longer than most livestock, and their well-being and athletic performance can be undermined by bacteria-laden dust and mycotoxin — contaminants frequently hiding in both feed and bedding. MBC Magnum is modified for low dust, delivering some of the lowest dust levels achievable for pellet bedding, which helps maintain respiratory health and athletic ability. The heat sterilization built into Magnum's pelletization process yields a clean, pleasant-smelling product, and because it is made from softwoods it is free from urban contaminants. The bedding also helps cut stall ammonia levels and odor.

How do you buy Magnum Bedding and what does it cost?

Magnum is sold through a network of regional dealers and distributors; MBC's guidance is to find the nearest dealer rather than buy from any source using a similar name. Genuine Magnum is packaged in 40 lb bags, and recent retail pricing for a comparable single Magnum wood-pellet bag has run about $14.99 CAD. The Solution Section (FAQ)
How does MBC Magnum Horse Bedding work in the stall?
Shavings are hammer milled to a consistent size and compacted into pellets, held together in compressed form by wood lignin, a natural binding agent. In the stall, moisture releases the compressed fiber to provide fluffy bedding, and the smaller particles are more absorptive, easier to pick out, and produce less waste.
Is Magnum Horse Bedding good for my horse's respiratory health?
Yes. The product maintains respiratory health and athletic ability by using advanced techniques to achieve the lowest dust levels for pellet bedding, and it also helps reduce stall ammonia levels and odor. It is modified for low dust, and the heat sterilization in its unique pelletization process creates a compact product that's healthier for your horse.
What makes Magnum Bedding more absorbent than other beddings?
Research revealed that trees in Northern British Columbia grow slower, allowing them to produce a stronger fibre, and these trees aren't subjected to the pollution found in some areas of Southern British Columbia. The result is an engineered bedding pellet far more absorbent than other bedding on the market, a high absorbency credited both to the stronger fibre and to the combination of Pine and Spruce.
Will Magnum Bedding actually reduce my stable's operating costs?
It's designed to. MBC Magnum Horse Bedding is a product that improves the quality of horse care and reduces operating expenses for stable owners — the heat-sterilized, compact product requires unusually low bedding replacement and disposal, significantly reducing labor, maintenance and disposal costs while remaining environmentally friendly and easy to use and store.
Is the current Magnum Bedding the same as other products using that name?
No. MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. and its products are not related to other products that used the terms "Magnum Bedding" and "Quik-Pick" or closely related words — including QuikT'Pick, Magnum Pellets, and Horseman's Choice. Magnum Bedding was developed by Glen Morrison and Magnum Horse Bedding was first introduced in 2000.
What is MBC Magnum Horse Bedding made of?
It is made from 100% organic softwood fiber — a combination of Pine and Spruce. The shavings are hammer-milled to a consistent size and compacted into small pellets, bound only by the wood's own natural lignin. There are no added glues or chemical binders.
Who created Magnum Bedding?
Glen Morrison developed the product and began selling Magnum Bedding — and later the Quik-Pick line — directly to customers. The company, MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd., later expanded through regional dealers and distributors in the USA, Canada and Asia.
When was Magnum Horse Bedding first introduced?
Magnum Horse Bedding was first introduced in 2000. It grew out of research into creating a healthier, more affordable and more manageable bedding for horses, beginning with a study of which wood fiber would be strongest and most absorbent.
How does the pellet bedding turn into a soft bed?
The pellets arrive compressed and clean. When they are spread in the stall and exposed to moisture, the wood lignin releases and the compacted fiber expands from the inside out into a soft, fluffy bed. The smaller resulting particles are more absorptive and easier to pick out than loose shavings.
How much bedding do I get from a bag of Magnum Pellets?
The pellets expand significantly once wetted. By MBC's own comparison, roughly one truck of traditional shavings is equivalent to about four 40 lb bags of Magnum Pellets, which is why a few compact bags can bed a stall that would otherwise need a much larger volume of shavings.
Is Magnum Bedding good for horses with respiratory issues?
Yes — it is engineered specifically with respiratory health in mind. MBC Magnum is modified for low dust, achieving some of the lowest dust levels possible for pellet bedding, which helps protect horses from bacteria-laden dust and mycotoxin that can harm respiratory health and athletic ability.
Does Magnum help control stall odor and ammonia?
Yes. The bedding is designed to reduce stall ammonia levels and odor. The heat sterilization used in the pelletization process also produces a clean, pleasant-smelling product, and the high absorbency draws moisture away from the surface where ammonia would otherwise build.
Why is the wood sourced from Northern British Columbia?
Trees in Northern B.C. grow more slowly, which produces a stronger fiber, and they avoid the pollution found in some areas of Southern B.C. MBC believes this stronger northern fiber, combined with the specific Pine-and-Spruce blend, is what gives the pellets their unusually high absorbency compared with other bedding on the market.
How is the bedding sterilized?
Sterilization happens through heat during Magnum's unique pelletization process. The same heat process compacts the fiber into a dense pellet, which is why the finished bedding requires unusually low replacement and disposal volumes while remaining clean and pleasant-smelling.
Does Magnum Bedding save money compared to shavings?
It is designed to. Because the pellets are compact, highly absorbent and easy to pick out, they significantly reduce labor, maintenance and disposal costs for stable owners. The dramatic expansion ratio also means less product is needed and far less waste is generated than with loose shavings.
Is Magnum Bedding environmentally friendly?
Yes. It is made from softwoods and is free from urban contaminants, and MBC markets it as environmentally friendly. The reduced waste volume and lower disposal needs also mean less material leaving the barn over time compared with conventional bedding.
How should Magnum Bedding be stored?
Because the pellets are compressed and bagged in 40 lb units, they store easily and take up far less space than the equivalent volume of loose shavings. MBC lists 'easy to use and store' as a core benefit, since the compact bags stack neatly and stay clean until you spread them.
Are QuikT'Pick, Magnum Pellets and Horseman's Choice the same as MBC Magnum?
No. MBC Magnum Bedding Co. Ltd. states clearly that its products are not related to QuikT'Pick, Magnum Pellets, Horseman's Choice, or other products that borrowed similar names. After MBC's original companies faced financial difficulties in 2004, other firms sold old inventory under closely related terms, but those are separate products.
What weight bags does Magnum Bedding come in?
Genuine Magnum is packaged in 40 lb bags. That bag size is the unit MBC uses in its expansion comparison — roughly four 40 lb bags being equivalent to one truck of traditional shavings.
How much does Magnum Bedding cost?
Pricing is set by individual dealers, but recent retail listings for a comparable single Magnum wood-pellet bag have run about $14.99 CAD. Because the bedding is concentrated and low-waste, owners often find the per-stall cost competitive even when the per-bag price looks similar to other beddings.
Where can I buy Magnum Bedding?
Magnum is sold through a network of regional dealers and distributors. MBC's guidance is to find the nearest authorized dealer rather than buy from any source merely using a similar name, to be sure you are getting the genuine MBC Magnum formulation.
How do I contact Magnum Bedding directly?
You can reach the company at Magnum Bedding, Unit # 310 - 19292 60th Ave., by phone at 604-595-2405, or by email at [email protected]. They can direct you to the nearest dealer and answer questions about the product.
