What is Stable Comfort^TM?
Stable Comfort™ is a 2-piece system. The first component is a multi-celled mattress filled with uniformly sized rubber crumb. This rubber crumb provides the mattress with its high level of comfort and its shock absorbency. The second component is the one piece top covering. The top cover is made from an industrial strength geotextile and impregnated with a vulcanized rubber compound, that not only adds to the durability, but also makes it a non-draining, non-absorbent system. The top cover is fastened to the stall walls ensuring that it stays in place and that no bedding or waste gets underneath the system.

What exactly is the StableComfort™ stall mattress system?

StableComfort™ is a patented, multi-celled stall flooring system that installs wall-to-wall as a single one-piece surface and is, according to the manufacturer, the equivalent of at least 6 inches (15 cm) of bedding. The system pairs a rubber-crumb-filled mattress with a tough, double-impregnated top cover so horses stand on a stable, cushioned floor and lie down on a soft, supportive bed. What materials go into the mattress and top cover?

The base is a multi-celled mattress of polypropylene fabric with reinforced nylon stitching, filled with uniformly-sized rubber crumb made from recycled vehicle tires — an inert material that does not break down over time. A layer of loose rubber crumb is spread across the mattresses to fill gaps and add shock absorption, creating an evenly distributed soft surface. The protective top cover uses a needle-punched, industrial-grade polypropylene geotextile underside with a top surface double-impregnated with a vulcanized rubber compound, making it highly durable, non-absorbent, and 100% waterproof.

How does the system reduce work and protect the horse?

Because the waterproof, slip-resistant cover fastens to the walls with custom plastic anchor strips, urine and waste cannot seep underneath, so cleaning is fast and hygienic — the company reports stall cleaning time cut by at least 50%, down to as little as 2–3 minutes a day with only a couple of forkfuls of shavings.
