What Does Carson James Offer?

The flagship offering is the Buckaroo Crew, an on-demand membership packed with a dozen-plus complete horsemanship courses and hundreds of step-by-step videos covering groundwork, riding fundamentals, problem solving, hackamore training, and mindset. Every course is included for one low monthly price — no per-course fees — and members get printable handbooks, a searchable video index, and a private community to ask questions and share wins.

Inside the membership you also get Carson AI, a tool built from Carson's complete teaching: open it on your phone, describe what your horse is doing, and it answers the way Carson would if he were standing in the round pen with you. Beyond the membership, Carson offers focused standalone programs — including his in-depth Hackamore Course and Colt Starting series — plus a free blog, checklists, and the Carson James Insider email list to get you started at no cost.

Who Is Carson James?

Carson James grew up on ranches in Montana and Wyoming, riding and helping with brandings alongside his brother from an early age. After his family moved to Florida, he started exercising local horses as a teenager — and that's when the question that would shape his life took hold. “I began to wonder what was really going on in the mind of the horse underneath me,” he says. “So I made it my life's mission to find out.”

At seventeen he went to Montana to learn from horsemen who started colts and trained cutting horses, then returned to work with clients — many of them “problem” horses that became his greatest teachers. He spent his formative years as a buckaroo on remote cattle operations, riding all day in real situations where the horsemanship simply had to work. That ranch-tested foundation, drawn from the Vaquero tradition, is what he teaches today.

"I have learned SO much by watching Carson's videos and have gained the confidence to begin sessions with my horses. I love how Carson speaks his thoughts to us, letting us know exactly when he sees the try in the horse and how to time the releases." Buckaroo Crew member

How Can I Learn From Carson James?

The easiest place to start is the Buckaroo Crew membership: sign up for the free trial, open the app, and work through the courses at your own pace from anywhere. Prefer to learn in person? Carson and his wife travel the country running horsemanship clinics, working with riders in small groups so everyone gets individual attention. His goal for every participant is simple: “to make participants feel like they leave there better and more equipped than when they came.”

If you want to test-drive his teaching first, his free blog and YouTube videos walk through real-world problems — reactive horses, speed control, head position, and more — and his downloadable checklists give you a clear starting point. One principle he comes back to again and again: riding on a loose rein is “the game changer every time.”

Why Do Riders Trust Carson James?

Riders trust Carson because his methods come from real ranch work, not theory, and because he explains the why behind every step. He narrates his thinking out loud as he rides — pointing out the exact moment a horse tries, and how to time the release — so owners learn to read their own horses instead of memorizing tricks. The result is a calmer horse and a more confident rider, which is why so many riders have learned through his courses and programs.
