What materials and finishes does StallWorks use — and why does it matter?
Per StallWorks, all doors and stalls are manufactured with quality galvanneal metal due to its superiority in rust and corrosion prevention — ensuring a long-lasting product. Products are then powder coated, providing a durable layer of paint protection that lasts for years. The wide range of powder-coating colors and textures allows StallWorks to match almost any existing barn or paint color. The combination delivers a finish that withstands the corrosive realities of barn environments better than untreated steel or commodity-painted alternatives.
What's a Barn Door — and how does it differ from a Dutch Door?
Per StallWorks:
Barn Doors are some of the most versatile options. They offer the look of a Dutch door with the functionality of an individual door — solid or with windows. Excellent for both interior (tack/feed rooms) and exterior applications. Provide a more weather-resistant finish than Dutch doors and withstand tough use. Available with classic hinged opening OR slide opening with wear-resistant tracks for modern feel.
Dutch Doors are built to last with 18GA galvannealed steel, a 5/8" plywood core with a 26GA metal liner glued up for strength. Provide ventilation, windowing, and direct access to the barn without using a main door. Customizable for size and color.
What's a Bale Door — and what's the construction spec?
Per StallWorks, Bale Doors draw light in while letting animals see out and socialize with one another. Construction spec:
- 18GA galvannealed steel panel perimeters and crossbucks
- 14GA galvannealed steel jambs
- Heavy-duty hinges
- Plywood core
Window options are made of 3/16" double-pane tempered glass with internal gridding. Available in custom sizes, colors, and hinge movements. Per the company, won't fade or rust; designed to last for many years.
What about Aisle Entry and Loft Doors?
Per StallWorks:
Aisle Entry Doors — these aren't average sliding doors. Plywood core, 16GA galvannealed steel, 5" steel perimeter and crossbucks. Open and close smoothly along heavy-duty delrin trolleys; can be customized to fit any rough opening. Standard 3/16" double-pane tempered glass windows with internal grids. Per the company, won't twist or rot — built for decades of hard use, big enough to move animals or materials in and out.
Loft Doors — provide easy access to upper storage areas + decorative element + ventilation. Can be set on hinges for wide opening OR tracks for sliding. Made with 18GA galvannealed steel panel perimeters and crossbucks, 14GA galvannealed steel jambs, and a 5/8" quality plywood core.
What about Stall Systems — and what's the difference between StallWorks' two lines?
Per StallWorks, the long-lasting Stall Systems are made of:
- 14GA galvannealed steel (highest quality)
- 3–4" on-center grills
- Heavy-duty Delrin trolleys
- Reliable doorstops
Two product lines:
- Economical line — beautiful and customizable. Stall door options can be mixed and matched: all bars in the stall door, fold-down door section, or V-neck. Grills: all bars, grill with a swing-out door, or a feed opening.
- European stall fronts — for the more high-end look, with a variety of options.
What's StallWorks' shipping reach — and how do they coordinate with my builder?
Per StallWorks, ships nationwide via:
- Freight carriers
- Hotshot carriers — deliver directly to you with no transferring between trucks
- Within a several-mile radius of Appomattox VA: delivery via StallWorks' own trucks

What materials are StallWorks doors made from?
StallWorks Dutch, Loft and Barn doors are built with 18GA galvannealed steel for the panel perimeter and crossbucks, a 14GA galvannealed steel jamb, and a 5/8" quality plywood core. Galvannealed steel is chosen for its superior rust and corrosion prevention. Windowed versions use 3/16" double-pane tempered glass with an internal grid.
What hardware comes on a StallWorks Dutch door?
StallWorks Dutch doors come equipped with heavy-duty 8" T-Hinges, a D-Handle and a Barrel Bolt. The split design lets you open the top half for ventilation and window views while keeping the bottom half closed to contain a horse. They are offered in multiple sizes and a range of colors to match an existing barn exterior.
How are StallWorks stall systems constructed?
StallWorks stall systems are fabricated from 14GA galvannealed steel and offered with 3" or 4" on-center grill spacing. The package includes screws, lags, heavy-duty Delrin trolleys, a trolley bracket and door stops, though lumber is not included. The result is a durable, secure-latching, smooth-opening stall front designed to resist wear, rust and fading.
What are StallWorks Aisle Entry Doors built from?
Aisle Entry Doors use a 3/4" plywood core wrapped in 16GA galvannealed steel with a 5" steel perimeter and crossbucks, finished with a 29GA skin. They ride on heavy-duty Delrin trolleys and include door stops, stay rollers, inside and outside pulls and a 7" jamb latch. Split-slider versions add a cane bolt and splice collar.
Why does StallWorks use galvannealed steel?
StallWorks chose galvannealed steel for its superiority in rust and corrosion prevention, which keeps doors and stalls looking good and functioning well for years. On top of the galvanneal base, every piece is powder coated for an extra durable protective layer. The combination is built to withstand the moisture and hard use of a working barn.
Are StallWorks products powder coated, and can I match my barn color?
Yes. Every StallWorks door and stall is powder coated for a durable, long-lasting finish that resists fading. StallWorks offers a wide range of powder coating colors and textures that can match almost any existing barn or paint color, so new doors blend in with an established facility instead of standing out.
Can StallWorks build custom sizes and designs?
Custom work is the core of what StallWorks does. Products are built to the specific design and specifications of either the owner or the contractor, and the company uses SolidWorks software to engineer each project before fabrication. Doors and stalls are sized to fit virtually any rough opening.
What is the relationship between StallWorks and Virginia MetalFab?
StallWorks handles its metal fabrication and powder coating in-house through its sister company, Virginia MetalFab. That partnership lets StallWorks oversee a project from initial SolidWorks design through fabrication, finishing and assembly under one roof. It also means tighter quality control and the ability to color-match and customize at the production stage.
What is the difference between a barn door and a Dutch door from StallWorks?
A StallWorks Dutch door splits horizontally so the top half can open for ventilation and a window view while the bottom half stays closed to contain a horse, and it offers direct stall access without opening the main barn door. A StallWorks barn door is offered in hinged or sliding configurations, in solid or windowed styles, and provides superior weather resistance for tack rooms, feed rooms and exterior doorways. Both share the same galvannealed-steel-and-plywood construction.
What are Loft Doors and Bale Doors used for?
Loft Doors provide easy access to a barn's upper storage areas and double as both functional and decorative features, allowing ventilation while maintaining weather protection. They are available as wide-swinging hinged doors or track-mounted sliding doors. Bale Doors are part of the same upper-level access line, sized for moving hay and bales into loft storage.
Does StallWorks ship nationwide?
Yes. StallWorks ships nationwide using freight carriers and hotshot carriers that deliver directly to you. Hotshot delivery avoids transferring the order between trucks, which reduces the risk of damaging finished, powder-coated doors in transit. Shipping arrangements are part of the start-to-finish service the company provides.
Can StallWorks doors and stalls be used for livestock other than horses?
While StallWorks is focused on the equine industry, its stall systems are designed for livestock containment generally, including cattle as well as horses. The systems can be configured with customizable feeding and watering functions to suit different animals and management styles. The same durable galvannealed-steel construction applies across uses.
Does StallWorks help with installation and project management?
Yes. StallWorks states it can oversee your project from start to finish to ensure you are completely satisfied with the product, and it brings expertise in installation built up over two decades. The company emphasizes that customer service is as important as the products it delivers. It is also a member of the National Frame Building Association.
What windows does StallWorks offer on its doors?
StallWorks offers windowed configurations across its Dutch, Loft, Barn and Aisle Entry doors using 3/16" double-pane tempered glass with an internal grid. The tempered glass adds safety and durability, while the double-pane construction helps with insulation and the internal grid gives a finished, traditional barn-window look. Solid (windowless) versions are also available for any door style.
