Every Horse Need Frequent Small Feedings!

This isn’t opinion— this is a proven fact! In their natural environment, horses are grazing animals that feed on small amounts of forage throughout the day. This grazing behavior satisfies their physiological and psychological needs. Horses have evolved to consume small, frequent meals, allowing for a steady supply of nutrients and continual saliva production to aid the digestive process. Replicating this natural behavior as closely as possible is essential for maintaining their well-being. While the specific needs of horses can vary based on factors such as age, breed, and activity level, maintaining a regular feeding routine is essential. Failure to provide small frequent meals can lead to physiological stress, resulting in behavioral changes.

Do You Have A Horse That Has?

  • Ulcers or Digestive Issues
  • Is Colic Prone
  • Is Underweight
  • Behavior Problems such as “Weaving” or “Anxiety”
  • Insulin Resistant
  • Wood Chewer
  • Cribber

Don’t feel alone! Horses were designed to eat several small meals a day and humans have a hard time meeting their work, children, and barn chores schedules… HAYTIME™ can get you TWO reliable feedings every day— just load it and set the timer!

How Did HAYTIME Come To Be?

It all started with a DVM named Amanda Getto who had a deep love for her horse Jigs. Amanda owned and rode Jigs competitively. Her love for Jigs, and all horses, pushed her to become a competitive dressage rider, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and a practicing veterinarian. When Jigs developed equine gastric ulcer syndrome, Amanda wanted a natural, long-term solution. She knew from her training that horses are foraging animals, with a natural eating cycle every 3 & 1/2 hours. But stabled horses, like Jigs, often aren't fed at night, and that can cause not only gastric ulcers but other health and behavioral issues. Amanda looked for a solution to drop a flake of hay at regular intervals, but found none that worked well for this specific problem. And that led her to create the Haytime™ by Jigs & Co., an independent woman-owned business with a mission to help horses feed the way nature intended.

What Is HAYTIME™?

Haytime™ is an Automatic Hay Feeder. It's easy to use. You choose the feeding schedule by setting Haytime's timer (24 hour timer.) Then, load a flake of hay in each of the two holding bins, and at the times you set, a door on the bottom of Haytime releases a flake of hay. Each bin has its own door and timing, giving you two feedings. You can even schedule the doors to open twice a day to allow for up to four feedings.

HAYTIME™ has:

  • Two bins that each hold a flake of hay
  • Bottom doors open to release the hay
  • Automatic and adjustable timed release
  • Durable and safe
  • Battery operated
  • Easy to install, easy to run
  • Patent Pending
  • Height: 25 inches/63.5 Centimeters
  • Width: 17.5in/44.45 Centimeters
  • Depth: 19.5in/49.53 Centimeters
  • Weight: 27.5 pounds (empty)
  • Capacity: 2 flakes of dry hay
  • Power: Six AA batteries
  • Mounting: Four 1 x 1/4 inch screws with washers (included)

Is HAYTIME™ Durably and Safely Made?

YES and by a veterinarian that owns horses! HAYTIME™ is one tough feeder. Made from the same plastics commonly used in stables, it can withstand abuse. It's designed with soft rounded edges, and plastic that flexes. Unlike feeders made of sheet metal, this is safe and fits in a stall. Though designed for inside use, it is weather-resistant.

How Does It Operate? Do I Need Electricity?

HAYTIME™ runs on AA batteries. There are no large industrial batteries or electrical outlets, reducing the risk of electrical shocks and fire. And no need for expensive electricians or replacement batteries. It's also easy to install - just two screws and it hangs on a wall. Unlike some feeders, Haytime requires no electrical outlets or stall modifications. It uses 6 AA Batteries, and we recommend these be changed out every 6 months.

Can HAYTIME™ Help My Horse With Behavioral or Medical Problems?

Eating regular feedings and small additional meals can help every horse. Their body was designed to take in small meals continuously. Unlike humans that produce acid when they are hungry or start a meal, horses produce acid all day long. Eating additional hay can help absorb acid, soothe digestive systems, calm a nervous mind, settle horses that are bored in their stalls, and even stablize insulin levels in metabolic horses. Nothing makes horses happier than eating— HAYTIME™ helps support both physical and mental heath for all breeds at all stages of life!

What If My Horse Is Already At A Boarding Stable?

This is a great question and we have a good answer! While it is true that a FEW stables feed breakfast, lunch and dinner, most stables only feed twice a day— and most do NOT feed after 5pm or before 7am. That leaves 14 hours for your horse go without food. 14 hours to produce acid, bad behaviors. If you were to schedule a HAYTIME™ feeding at 9pm and 4am, (most horses are up by 4am) then it will make a world of difference to stablize insulin, acids and helping soothe anxiety behaviors like weaving etc. Haytime is also perfect for night feedings while you sleep or when you are away from your horse for an extended time during the day.

How Much Does HAYTIME™ Cost?

The real question… is ‘How much can HAYTIME™ Save? “ because so many poor behaviors and health problems seem to melt away with regular and proper use of Haytime! While other automatic feeders can cost thousands, HAYTIME™ is only $995 (plus applicable tax) and a flat rate of $75 for shipping-- making it one of the most Affordable automatic hay feeders in the industry! You will save this money in no time with healthier and happier horses!

What Do Horse Owners Say About HAYTIME™?

"I highly recommend Jigs & Co’. s Haytime feeder! It is so easy to set up, the customer service is phenomenal, and I have so much peace of mind knowing that my horse will never have to go all day without hay! Haytime is perfect for night feedings while you sleep or when you are away from your horse for an extended time during the day.

Haley B. Tennessee

"I have a 25-year-old Ottb who is a hard keeper and ulcer prone but gets overwhelmed if he has too much hay, leading to waste. With the use of Haytime he gets smaller, spread-out feedings. In turn, I've noticed less hay waste, him consistently grazing, and as an added bonus, keeping weight on easier!"

Colleen G. Ohio

"I love the freedom Haytime has allowed me, I no longer need to rush home from evenings away to feed them, my Rocky Mountain Horse is less disruptive, and I’m most excited to avoid this feeding during the cold winter months. The product is durable and safe for my horses, and I highly recommend Haytime to anyone."

Debbie S. Washington

"Taking the best care of our equine friends has always been a top priority for me. When I had a horse diagnosed with ulcers I wanted to find a way to feed him hay during the wee hours of the night when no one was around. We are so happy with the product we got a second one for a horse that is bored overnight. We have noticed that these two horses don't waste their hay anymore(stalls are cleaner) and our horse that had ulcers is now ulcer free! The product is durable, easy to use and the horses are not scared of the hay dropping out of it. I highly recommend this product!"

Kate P. Ohio

"I have just ordered HAYTIME™ and can’t believe how easy, and how wonderfully it works! My insulin resistant Morgan Mare just loves it! I can already see that her 'hay belly' is shrinking-- noteably! She is getting to eat more than ever before-- and yet she is looking more fit. I have it programmed to give her an additional 1/2 flake feeding at 8 pm and then at 5am and she is happier and more fit looking than ever!”

What exactly is the HAYTIME automatic hay feeder?

HAYTIME is a wall-mounted, timer-driven feeder that drops a fresh flake of hay on a schedule you set, so a stabled horse keeps grazing even when no one is at the barn. It holds two bins, each loaded with one flake, and a door on the bottom of each bin opens automatically at the times you program. Because each bin times independently, you get two separate feedings from a single load, which is ideal for overnight feeding or stretches when you are away from the barn. The product is currently marked Patent Pending.

Who makes HAYTIME and why was it created?

HAYTIME is the flagship product of Jigs & Co. (Jigs and Company LLC), an independent, woman-owned business founded by Dr. Amanda Getto, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and competitive dressage rider. The company and the feeder are named after her horse, Jigs, whom she has ridden competitively since her teenage years. When Jigs developed equine gastric ulcer syndrome, Dr. Getto searched for a product that could dispense hay flakes at natural intervals, found nothing on the market, and built HAYTIME so horses could "feed the way nature intended." Jigs & Co. is based in Medina, OH, and can be reached.

What is HAYTIME built from and how safe is it in the stall?

HAYTIME is made from the same durable, stable-grade plastics already common in horse barns, chosen specifically to withstand abuse. It is designed with soft, rounded edges and plastic that flexes rather than dents, deliberately avoiding sheet-metal construction that could injure a horse. The unit measures 25"H x 17.5"W x 19.5"D, weighs 27.5 lbs empty, and the plastic build is weather-resistant for barn conditions. It mounts with four 1 x 1/4 inch screws and washers (included) and hangs on a wall with no stall modifications.

How does HAYTIME actually feed the horse?

You choose the feeding schedule by setting HAYTIM E's timer, load a flake of hay into each of the two holding bins, and at the times you set, a door on the bottom of each bin releases its flake. The horse eats from a natural, low feeding position with no obstructions, unlike slow feeders that force a horse to work against grates and small openings. It runs on nine AA batteries (included), so there are no large industrial batteries, no electrical outlets, and a reduced risk of electrical shock or fire. A full load covers up to roughly twelve hours of spaced-out feedings before a manual reload.

Which horses and owners does HAYTIME help most?

HAYTIME is built for horses that benefit from small, frequent forage rather than one or two large meals, including ulcer-prone horses, hard keepers, and horses that get overwhelmed or wasteful with a big pile of hay. Owner Colleen G. of Ohio uses it for a 25-year-old Ottb who is "ulcer prone but gets overwhelmed if he has too much hay," while Kate P. of Ohio reports their "horse that had ulcers is now ulcer free." It is equally valuable for owners who travel, work evenings, or want to avoid late-night and cold-winter feedings, and for horses that get bored overnight, one owner noted their bored horse "has stopped digging holes in his run overnight."

What does HAYTIME cost and how do you order it?

The HAYTIM E automatic hay feeder is priced at $995.00 (excluding sales tax) and ships via UPS Ground at a flat rate of $75, with typical delivery in 3-5 days; free local pickup is available in Medina, OH. The Solution Section (FAQ)
What is the HAYTIME™ Automatic Hay Feeder?
HAYTIME™ by Jigs & Co. is a battery-operated automatic hay feeder that drops a flake of hay at the times you set. It has two holding bins, each with its own bottom door and timer, so you can load it, set the 24-hour timer, and get two reliable feedings a day. You can schedule the doors to open twice each, allowing up to four feedings.
Why do horses need small, frequent feedings throughout the day?
Horses are grazing animals built to eat small amounts of forage continuously, and unlike people they produce stomach acid all day long rather than only when hungry. Going long stretches without hay lets that acid build up, which can lead to gastric ulcers and behavioral issues. Frequent small meals keep saliva and nutrients flowing and help horses stay calm and comfortable.
Which horses can HAYTIME™ help?
It's designed to support horses prone to ulcers or digestive issues, colic, or who are underweight, insulin resistant, or struggling with behaviors like weaving, cribbing, wood chewing, and anxiety. Spreading hay into smaller feedings can help absorb acid, soothe the digestive system, settle bored or nervous horses, and help stabilize insulin in metabolic horses. The maker says it supports both physical and mental health for all breeds at every stage of life.
Does HAYTIME™ need electricity or special wiring?
No. HAYTIME™ runs on six AA batteries, so there are no large industrial batteries, electrical outlets, electricians, or stall modifications required, which lowers the risk of shocks and fire. It hangs on a wall with just two screws (mounting hardware is included). The maker recommends changing the batteries every six months.
Is the HAYTIME™ feeder safe and durable in a stall?
Yes. It's made from the same plastics commonly used in stables, with soft rounded edges and plastic that flexes, so it stands up to abuse without the sharp risks of sheet-metal feeders. It's designed for inside use but is weather-resistant. The empty feeder weighs 27.5 pounds, measures 25" H x 17.5" W x 19.5" D, and holds two flakes of dry hay.
Can I use HAYTIME™ if my horse boards at a stable?
Yes, and it's especially useful there. Most boarding stables feed only twice a day and often not between about 5pm and 7am, leaving roughly 14 hours with no hay. Scheduling HAYTIME™ feedings overnight, such as 9pm and 4am, can help stabilize insulin and acid and ease anxiety behaviors during that long gap. It's also ideal for night feedings while you sleep or when you're away for an extended part of the day.
How much does HAYTIME™ cost?
HAYTIME™ is $995 (plus applicable tax), with a flat rate of $75 for shipping, which the maker notes makes it one of the most affordable automatic hay feeders in the industry. Other automatic feeders can run into the thousands. Jigs & Co. frames it as money saved through healthier, happier horses and fewer feeding-related problems.
Who makes HAYTIME™, and how do I order or learn more?
HAYTIME™ is made by Jigs & Co., an independent woman-owned business founded by Dr. Amanda Getto, DVM, a competitive dressage rider and practicing veterinarian who created it after her horse Jigs developed equine gastric ulcer syndrome. To order or ask questions, call 330-635-7590, email [email protected], or visit https://www.jigsandco.com.
How does HAYTIME work?
You set HAYTIME's timer to the feeding schedule you want, then load one flake of hay into each of the two holding bins. At the times you programmed, a door on the bottom of each bin releases its flake of hay to the horse. Because each bin times independently, a single load gives you two separate, spaced-out feedings without anyone having to be at the barn.
How much hay does HAYTIME hold?
HAYTIME holds two flakes of dry hay at a time, one in each of its two bins. A full load provides two timed feedings, which can cover roughly twelve hours of spaced-out feeding before you need to reload. This is designed to mimic a horse's natural foraging cycle rather than one large meal.
How is HAYTIME powered?
HAYTIME runs on nine AA batteries, which are included with the feeder. It uses no large industrial batteries and no electrical outlets, which reduces the risk of electrical shock and fire in the barn. The battery design also means there is no wiring to install and no power source to locate near the stall.
How do you install HAYTIME?
Installation is simple: HAYTIME mounts with four 1 x 1/4 inch screws and washers, which are included, and hangs on a stall wall. No electrical outlets are required and no stall modifications are needed. According to the company it is essentially a two-step mount-and-go setup, and customers describe it as very easy to set up.
What are HAYTIME's dimensions and weight?
The HAYTIME feeder measures 25 inches high, 17.5 inches wide, and 19.5 inches deep. It weighs 27.5 pounds empty. These dimensions are designed to hang comfortably on a standard stall wall while still holding two full flakes of hay.
What is HAYTIME made of and is it safe for horses?
HAYTIME is made from the same durable, stable-grade plastics commonly used in horse barns, chosen so it can withstand abuse from horses. It is designed with soft, rounded edges and plastic that flexes rather than denting, and it deliberately avoids sheet-metal construction that could hurt a horse. The plastic build is also weather-resistant for barn conditions.
What comes in the box with HAYTIME?
Each HAYTIME feeder ships with nine AA batteries and four 1 x 1/4 inch mounting screws with washers. That means the feeder arrives ready to install and operate without buying anything extra. You simply mount it, load the bins, and set the timer.
Who makes HAYTIME?
HAYTIME is made by Jigs & Co. (Jigs and Company LLC), an independent, woman-owned business. It was founded by Dr. Amanda Getto, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and competitive dressage rider. The company is based in Medina, OH, and can be reached at 330-635-7590.
Why is the company called Jigs & Co.?
The company and the feeder are named after Dr. Amanda Getto's horse, Jigs, whom she has owned and ridden competitively since her teenage years. When Jigs developed equine gastric ulcer syndrome, Dr. Getto looked for a product that could dispense hay flakes at natural intervals and found nothing on the market. That gap led her to create HAYTIME so horses could feed the way nature intended.
How does HAYTIME help with ulcers?
Horses are foraging animals with a natural eating cycle of roughly every 3.5 hours, but stabled horses often go long stretches, especially overnight, without hay. By releasing small flakes on a timed schedule, HAYTIME keeps forage and saliva moving through the stomach, which helps buffer stomach acid and reduce the risk of equine gastric ulcer syndrome. One Ohio customer reports their previously ulcer-prone horse is now ulcer free using the feeder.
Is HAYTIME good for hard keepers and wasteful eaters?
Yes. Owners with hard keepers and ulcer-prone horses note that HAYTIME lets the horse get smaller, spread-out feedings instead of one overwhelming pile. Colleen G. of Ohio uses it for a 25-year-old OTTB who is a hard keeper and gets overwhelmed by too much hay at once. Other owners report that their horses stopped wasting hay and that stalls stay cleaner as a result.
Can horses tamper with the HAYTIME settings or doors?
The feeder is designed to resist a curious or playful horse. Customer Hayley P. of Tennessee worried her playful horse Hotch would push buttons, change settings, open doors, or stick his head inside, but reported he displayed none of that behavior. The rounded, flexing plastic build and the bottom-release door design are meant to keep the horse eating naturally without giving it parts to manipulate.
How is HAYTIME different from a slow feeder?
Unlike slow feeders that force a horse to work against grates and small openings, HAYTIME lets the horse eat from a natural, unobstructed feeding position. The company describes slow feeders as creating stress through obstacles, and pellet-only automatic feeders as lacking the nutritional value of real hay. HAYTIME instead delivers whole flakes of hay on a natural timed schedule.
Is HAYTIME good for owners who travel or work evenings?
Yes, that is one of its core use cases. Customers describe the freedom of no longer needing to rush home from evenings away to feed, and being able to skip cold winter-night feedings while the horse still gets fed. It is well suited for overnight feeding, long workdays, and times when the owner simply cannot be at the barn.
Where can I buy HAYTIME and how do I contact Jigs & Co.?
You can order the HAYTIME automatic hay feeder directly from Jigs & Co. at jigsandco.com. The company ships via UPS Ground for a flat $75 with 3 to 5 day delivery, and offers free local pickup in Medina, OH. For questions before ordering, you can call Jigs & Co. at 330-635-7590.
