The Solution Section (FAQ)
What are Robinhoods™ designed to do?
Per Robinhoods: keep your horse's coat show-ready whether you're showing or not. The hoods are designed to:
- Tame the most fierce manes
- Polish dull coats to a sheen
- Block sun damage
- Keep your horse's coat from winterizing
- Keep mane flat and beautiful
Per the company: endorsed by more pros than any other horse hood on the market. The differentiation is the 3 F's: Fit, Fashion, Function.
What does "FIT" mean — and why does it matter for a horse hood?
Per Robinhoods, fit is industry-leading: "They fit like spray paint." Why this matters:
- Ill-fitting garments make your horse uncomfortable; uncomfortable horses tear them off
- Torn-up eye holes on a stretch hood come from horses rubbing the irritating hood out of their eyes
- If the garment fits well, your horse will forget about it and leave it alone
- Cheaper hoods are wasted money if your horse tears them off the first night
Robinhoods promise:
- Will NOT rub into your horse's eyes
- Will NOT rub your horse's mane out
- Will stay where you put them
What engineering innovations are built into a Robinhood?
Per Robinhoods, 7 specific engineering innovations:
- The world's best Lycra — top-quality 4-way stretch (vs cheaper 2-way stretch used by competitors)
- Self-healing coil zippers — easy on/off; reshape themselves every time you zip
- Nylon zipper covers — protects zipper from stall door rub
- No center seam over horse's neck — seams over manes rub them out
- Center yoke — costs more, but a major factor in comfort and fit (you won't be happy without it once you've used them)
- ABS buckles (indestructible) — instead of Velcro that snags garment and loads with debris
- Stretchable seams — special sewing process; will not unravel
What fabrics does Robinhoods use — and which is right for my situation?
Per Robinhoods, four fabric options:
- 6 oz Lycra (6.2 oz, 4-way stretch nylon) — breathable, smooth (bedding won't stick), polishes hair coat, prevents fading, protects from biting insects.
- 10 oz Tough Spandex (4-way stretch heavy weight nylon-spandex) — super tough, rip- and tear-resistant. Warmer, heavier, tougher — for customers who think regular Lycra hoods are too fragile.
- Arctic Fleece — body-hugging 4-way stretch, very breathable. Maintains horse's body heat + wicks moisture; NOT waterproof but performs perfectly in colder weather. Per the company: technically superior to polar fleece (which attracts bedding/dirt).
- Kool Stretch Mesh — nylon Lycra 4-way stretch for summer. Highly breathable; releases body heat, prevents fading, tames mane, repels biting insects. White or Tan are coolest; darker colors only inside.

How do I wash a ROBINHOODS® hood?
Machine wash the hood warm and hang it to dry. Before washing, fasten the velcro closures so they do not snag the fabric. Following these care steps keeps the four-way-stretch Lycra performing and the fit intact wash after wash.
Do ROBINHOODS® offer matching tail bags?
Yes. They make a 10 oz. Tough Lycra Tail Bag for $14.95 and a 6 oz. Lycra Tail Bag for $8.50. Both tie closed with strings instead of Velcro for a secure, snag-free hold that protects and keeps the tail clean alongside the hood.
Can I get a custom design on a ROBINHOODS® garment?
Yes. ROBINHOODS® offers custom silk-screening services, which makes them a good fit for barns, breed associations and teams that want their own branding or colors on their hoods. Combined with the many stock colors and patterns, you can build a coordinated look across your string of horses.
Why is the zipper design important on a ROBINHOODS® hood?
The 10 oz. NFL Tough and Kool ROBINHOODS® use an armored, self-healing coil zipper covered by nylon webbing. The webbing cover keeps the zipper from catching or rubbing as the horse moves against the stall door, which protects both the hood and the horse. A self-healing coil also resists separating, so the closure stays reliable in hard barn use.
Can ROBINHOODS® be worn when I'm not showing?
Absolutely. The whole idea is to keep your horse's coat show ready whether you are showing or not. Wearing the hood day to day keeps the coat polished, the mane trained flat, and the horse cleaner, so you spend less time grooming when show day actually arrives.
Where can I buy ROBINHOODS® products?
You can order directly from the official store at robinhoods.com, where each product offers color swatches and a size chart. ROBINHOODS® garments are also carried by various tack and equestrian retailers, but the official site lists the full current lineup and pricing.
