They've been hard to find of late but we recently bought the company and are making them again.

Why Use Merino Wool?

For centuries the Merino Sheep have been known and prized for the quality of their wool. Today, Merinos are still regarded as having some of the finest and softest wool of any sheep. Their wool is finely crimped, durable and incredibly soft. Pads made with this wool are exquisitely comfortable for horses and help their time under saddle to be less of a strain both mentally and physically.

We are horsemen making products for horsemen. The blankets are built right here at our place in Marietta, Oklahoma. Use these blankets for work or pleasure riding, for the training barn, and for the show pen. Use the same pad for all those purposes as they keep their good looks under hard use.

I just wanted to take a minute to let you know how pleased we are with your saddle blankets! We have purchased a lot of saddle blankets in the past and I have to say I was not as happy with them as I am with yours! I like the durability and my wife loves all the colors! We both really like the price as well! We think you are very reasonable! My wife also loves the fact that they clean up so nice. From now on we will not purchase our saddle blankets anywhere else! It means alot to us and we just wanted to take the time to let you know we appreciate you both!

The two Alpaca Cutter Classic pads I got for my horses are awesome- they are the best I've ever had. They keep my horse's backs cool and comfortable. When I take the pads off, their backs are lightly sweated and there are no marks or ruffled hairs. The horses work comfortably all day. Great!

What goes into the materials?

Each blanket pairs a woven wool top with a layer of porous, non-absorbent filler padding and a bottom layer of 100% Merino wool fleece that sits against the horse. Quality wear-leathers are sewn on so the pad holds up under a cinch for the long haul. The woven top is not skimped on: medium-weight tops are guaranteed to contain at least four pounds of wool, while heavy-weight tops run six to seven pounds of wool for horses that need more protection.

Why Merino wool instead of synthetics?

Merino fibers are made of interlocking keratin protein molecules that are strong, elastic, and resilient, yet fine and flexible enough to bend softly instead of itching like coarse older wools. The fleece works like a second skin, wicking sweat through vapor-phase transfer so heat dissipates and the horse stays dry. Merino can absorb up to 30% of its dry weight before it ever feels wet, where many synthetics feel wet at roughly 7% and can even leave some horses agitated under saddle.

How do the pads solve sore backs and slipping?

The no-slip Merino fleece backing grips the horse and helps keep both the pad and saddle from shifting around, which is the daily frustration the company set out to fix. The combination of a heavy woven top, porous filler, and dense fleece distributes pressure to protect the back over long days. Ccsb regularly customizes the padding for a specific horse, and the heavier builds add a layer of soft felt sewn under the blanket for rope horses, working ranch horses, and special-needs backs.

How do you care for a Cutter Classic pad?

Care is deliberately simple: because Merino does not soak up sweat the way foam and synthetics do, you can hang the pad on the fence and spray it off with water. The fleece dries quickly, will not get stiff, and will not stay wet for long, so it stays soft and flexible season after season. With the sewn-on wear-leathers, these pads are built to wear for many years rather than a single show season.

What can you order, and at what price?
The lineup spans medium-weight show and pleasure pads, heavy-weight working pads, a felt-reinforced Beefed-Up Cutter Classic pad, a ranch Work Pad, and an Alpaca Saddle Blanket woven from alpaca fiber in its 22 natural colors under the signature fleece. Blankets cut roughly 34 inches withers-to-hips in 36-, 38-, or 40-inch widths, and a heavyweight like the Canyon Land pad runs $260.00 at 8 lbs with 6.5 lbs of wool in the top. The shop will even refleece your old pad or finish out a raw blanket you send in, and pads are popular as custom show awards with optional engraved corner plates.

What is Cutter Classic Saddle Blankets?
Cutter Classic Saddle Blankets (CCSB) is a small company run by horsemen in Marietta, Oklahoma that hand-builds woven wool saddle blankets and pads backed with 100% Merino wool fleece. They make products for both performance-horse show exhibitors and working ranch cowboys. The shop emphasizes no-slip, comfortable, durable pads with unique designs.
Where is Cutter Classic located and how do I contact them?
The shop is at 12568 Dover Rd, Marietta, OK 73448. You can call them directly at (580) 276-6126 or (580) 490-1124 to ask about products, customization, or ordering. Because they are a small horseman-run outfit, you often reach the people who actually make the blankets.
What materials are Cutter Classic saddle blankets made from?
Each pad layers a woven wool top, a porous non-absorbent filler pad, and a bottom layer of 100% Merino wool fleece that contacts the horse. Quality wear-leathers are sewn on for durability under the cinch. Some models also use New Zealand wool, and an Alpaca line is woven from alpaca fiber in its 22 natural colors under the signature fleece.
Why does Cutter Classic use Merino wool instead of synthetic pads?
Merino fibers are interlocking keratin proteins that are strong, elastic, and resilient, yet fine and flexible enough to bend softly without the itch of coarse older wools. It functions like a second skin, regulating temperature and wicking sweat through vapor-phase transfer. Merino can absorb up to about 30% of its dry weight before feeling wet, far better than many synthetics that feel wet at roughly 7% and can leave some horses agitated.
How does the Merino fleece keep my horse comfortable?
The fleece sits against the horse like a second skin and pulls moisture into its fibers, then releases it into drier air outside the pad, dissipating heat naturally. The fine, flexible fibers softly bend rather than poke or itch. This keeps the horse's back drier and cooler over long rides than non-breathable synthetic pads.
Will a Cutter Classic pad really stop my saddle and pad from slipping?
Yes — the no-slip Merino fleece backing grips the horse's coat, which helps keep both the pad and the saddle from shifting around during work or showing. Stopping the slide of saddles and pads is one of the core problems the company set out to solve. The result is a more secure, consistent fit ride after ride.
How much wool is in the top blanket?
Medium-weight tops are guaranteed to contain at least four pounds of wool, paired with the filler padding and Merino fleece. Heavy-weight tops step up to six or seven pounds of wool for hard-working horses or any horse that needs more protection. For example, the Canyon Land heavyweight pad carries 6.5 pounds of wool in the top blanket.
What is the difference between the medium-weight and heavy-weight pads?
Medium-weight pads use a roughly four-pound woven wool top and suit most training, showing, and pleasure riding. Heavy-weight pads use a six-to-seven-pound top with matching filler, fleece, and wear-leathers for hard-working horses or any horse needing extra back protection. Both run about 34 inches withers-to-hips, with widths of 36, 38, or 40 inches.
What is the Canyon Land pad and how much does it cost?
The Canyon Land is a heavyweight saddle pad priced at $260.00, weighing about 8 lbs with roughly 34 x 17 x 5 inch dimensions. It carries 6.5 pounds of wool in the top blanket over filler and Merino fleece, and is offered in six pattern options. It is built for everyday work and competition, and custom felt layers can be added on request.
What is the Beefed-Up Cutter Classic pad?
The Beefed-Up pad adds a thicker layer of protection by sewing a panel of soft felt under the blanket. It is designed for rope horses, working ranch horses, and horses with special padding needs. It delivers extra cushioning while keeping the Merino fleece against the horse's back.
Is there a pad made specifically for ranch work?
Yes — the Work Pad (Ranch Pad) is built for cowboys who saddle up early and ride late. It puts 100% Merino fleece against the horse's back with an extra layer of padding between the fleece and canvas, plus sewn-on wear-leathers because you will use it for a long time. It is extra tough, will not get stiff or stay wet for long, and is easy to clean.
Do they offer an alpaca saddle blanket?
Yes. The Alpaca Saddle Blanket is woven from alpaca fiber in its 22 natural colors and finished with the Cutter Classic signature fleece. It offers a distinctive natural-color look while keeping the comfortable Merino fleece backing that the brand is known for.
How do I clean and care for a Cutter Classic saddle pad?
Care is intentionally simple: because Merino does not soak up sweat like foam or synthetic pads, you can hang the pad on the fence and spray it off with water. The fleece dries quickly, will not get stiff, and will not stay wet for long. With proper care these pads stay soft and flexible and wear for many years.
How long do these saddle blankets last?
Cutter Classic builds the pads to last for years rather than a single season, which is why every model includes quality wear-leathers sewn on for durability under the cinch. Because the Merino fleece does not absorb and hold sweat the way synthetics do, the pad resists the moisture damage that shortens the life of cheaper pads. Owners report many years of use.
Can I get a custom or personalized saddle pad?
Yes. The company frequently customizes the padding for a specific horse and will add a soft felt layer for extra protection on request. The pads are also popular as custom show awards, with optional engraved corner plates. They will even refleece an old pad or finish out a raw blanket you find and send to them.
Does Cutter Classic offer free shipping?
Yes — at the time of research the site advertises FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS. Combined with the brand's made-by-horsemen approach and customization options, this makes it straightforward to order directly from the shop. Call (580) 276-6126 or (580) 490-1124 to confirm current shipping terms and place an order.
What sizes do Cutter Classic blankets come in?
Blankets are cut roughly 34 inches from withers to hips. Side-to-side widths are offered at 36, 38, or 40 inches on medium-weight models, and 38 or 40 inches on heavy-weight models. The shop can also customize padding and finish for a particular horse's needs.
