High Country Plastics makes water caddies that let horse owners haul 18 to 63 gallons of fresh drinking water in a pickup bed, on a hay rack or inside a horse trailer. Every tank is built from FDA approved polyethylene, so the water is safe for you and your animals to drink, wherever the road takes you.

How Can You Haul Fresh Water for Your Horses?

Away from home, fresh water is not always on hand when your horse needs it. High Country Plastics answers that with a full line of water caddies shaped to fit the spaces a truck and trailer already have.

The line runs from the 18 gallon SL-18 slant load caddy to the 63 gallon TC-63 Pickup Bed Water Caddy. In between are hay rack tanks, half-moon tanks that lie down or stand upright, a round barrel, a bench caddy with storage and a dry camp caddy that doubles as a saddle rack. High Country Plastics, of Caldwell, Idaho, states its primary goal plainly: safe and durable products for its customers and their animals.

How Does the Pickup Bed Water Caddy Work?

The TC-63 is built for the gooseneck owner. It carries 63 gallons of fresh water in the bed of a pickup and its shape still allows hook-up to a goose-neck trailer. High Country Plastics designed it to sit behind or in front of the fender wells, so the hitch stays clear while the water rides along.

Fill caps on each side of the tank let you fill it from either side of the truck. A molded in aluminum 3/4" drain insert means the drain attachment spot will never break, sun-rot or fail, and one 3/4" shut off valve is included. Four built in cup holders hold drinks or sprays, and a center storage area with a lid keeps small items in one place. The TC-63 measures 60.25" L x 21" W x 18.5" H and weighs 55 pounds.

Which Water Caddy Fits a Pickup Bed?

Two High Country Plastics caddies ride in the truck bed. The TC-63 is the largest. The Hmld-48 Half-Moon Lay Down Water Caddy carries 48 gallons, lies flat and conveniently fits on either side of goose neck hitches. It measures 63.5" L x 18" W x 12" H and weighs 26 pounds, with a fill cap on top and a 3/4" shut off valve included.

The RB-35 Round Barrel Water Caddy is the third option. It holds 35 gallons and can fit in several trailer locations or in the back of a pick-up. At 18" L x 18" W x 37" H and 17 pounds, it stands upright in a corner and drains through a molded in aluminum 3/4" drain insert.

What Caddies Fit Hay Racks and Trailer Corners?

For trailers with a hay rack, the HR-35 Hay Rack Water Caddy holds 35 gallons and fits most standard hay racks, with a tapered front for an aerodynamic design. The Hmhr-48 Half-Moon Hay Rack Water Caddy holds 48 gallons. Each hay rack tank comes with an 8' hose kit and a 3/4" shut off valve for easy ground level draining and refilling.

High Country Plastics highly recommends securing every water caddy with tie-down ratchets so it cannot shift from side to side while traveling. Two straps come with the HR-35.

Inside the trailer, the SL-18, SL-25 and SL-39 slant load caddies hold 18, 25 and 39 gallons and fit in the corner of a walk in tack room, using the dead space there. The Hmur-48 Half-Moon Upright Water Caddy holds 48 gallons against a flat wall, with a top valve that fills a bucket without a hose and a bottom valve that drains the tank. The strap kits provided with the SL-25 and Hmur-48 make installation quick and easy.

Can a Water Caddy Do More Than Carry Water?

Two High Country Plastics designs pull double duty. The DC-1 Dry Camp Water Caddy and Saddle Rack hauls 30 gallons of fresh water and doubles as a saddle rack, saving trailer space. Its 44" length will accommodate one large Western saddle or two English saddles, and its drain quickly attaches to a standard garden hose.

The BC-25 Bench Water Caddy holds 25 gallons and provides storage space underneath the lid. Molded in cup holders keep drinks or spray bottles in place, and recessed handles make it easy to carry while it is empty. On hot days the storage compartment can be filled with bags of ice to keep the water colder during the heat of summer.

The Solution Section (FAQ)
What is a water caddy for a horse trailer?

A water caddy is a portable tank that carries fresh drinking water in a truck bed, on a hay rack or inside a horse trailer. It lets you water horses at shows, trailheads and camps without relying on the water there. Good caddies are made from food-safe plastic, show the water level and drain through a valve or hose so buckets fill at ground level.

Who makes High Country Plastics water caddies?

They are made by High Country Plastics of Caldwell, Idaho. The company states that its primary goal is to provide safe and durable products for its customers and their animals. It describes its products as known for durability, quality, strength, innovation, warranty, FDA approval, safety, and satisfaction guaranteed β€” the High Country Way.

Is the water in a High Country Plastics caddy safe for horses to drink?

Yes. Every water caddy is manufactured with FDA approved polyethylene, so the water is safe for you and your animals to drink. The translucent poly also lets you check the water level without opening the tank. Molded in aluminum 3/4" drain inserts keep the drain attachment spot from breaking, sun-rotting or failing.

Can I haul a water caddy in my truck with a gooseneck trailer?

Yes. The TC-63 Pickup Bed Water Caddy holds 63 gallons and fits in the back of a pickup while still allowing hook-up to a goose-neck trailer. It sits behind or in front of the fender wells and has fill caps on each side. The 48 gallon HMLD-48 Half-Moon Lay Down Water Caddy also fits on either side of goose neck hitches.

What sizes do High Country Plastics water caddies come in?

Capacities run from 18 to 63 gallons. The slant load corner caddies hold 18, 25 or 39 gallons, the bench caddy 25, the dry camp caddy 30, the hay rack and round barrel caddies 35, the half-moon caddies 48, and the TC-63 Pickup Bed Water Caddy 63. Each product page lists exact dimensions and weight.

Which water caddy fits inside a horse trailer tack room?

The SL-18, SL-25 and SL-39 slant load caddies fit in the corner of a walk in tack room, using space that usually goes to waste. The HMUR-48 Half-Moon Upright Water Caddy stands against a flat wall and holds 48 gallons, with a top valve that fills a bucket without a hose. The SL-STD stand raises the SL-25 so a bucket fills without hooking up a hose.

How do I keep a water caddy from moving while I drive?

High Country Plastics highly recommends securing water caddies with tie-down ratchets to prevent side to side movement while traveling. The HR-35 hay rack caddy comes with two straps, and the upright caddies come with strap kits that make installation quick and easy. A separate SL-25 strap hardware kit is also sold for upright caddies.

Do High Country Plastics water caddies have a warranty?

Yes. Every High Country Plastics product carries a manufacturer's defect warranty, and each product page shows its length. If you bought through an authorized dealer, the company asks you to contact that dealer, who then works with High Country Plastics on the claim.
