Lucas Equine Equipment

From the small, homey barns, to unimaginable elegance, Lucas Equine has 42 years of success in manufacturing the highest quality horse equipment in the world!

About Lucas Equine Equipment

With a history rooted in horse stalls, Lucas Equine Equipment takes its name from Mr. Lucas who started a company in Cynthiana that built paddock gates for the local horse farms in nearby Lexington, Kentucky. Then, in 1981, Dana Looker purchased Mr. Lucas' business and, with a three-man welding shop, set a goal to provide the local market with quality, custom manufactured gates, doors and grills.

Architects and builders quickly picked up on Lucas Equine Equipment’s unique expertise in building horse stall components that met the demanding specifications of the local farm owners. With the support of these building professionals Lucas Equine Equipment's growth exploded to 31 full time employees, a 70,000 square foot facility and a reputation for excellence that is unparalleled manufacturing today.

Who founded Lucas Equine Equipment?

In 1981, Dana E. Looker (August 4, 1940 - April 17, 2015) purchased Mr. Lucas's small Cynthiana, Kentucky business, which had built paddock gates for the local horse farms near Lexington. Looker set out to provide the market with quality, custom-manufactured gates, doors, and grills, starting with a three-person welding team. Over the following decades he grew the company more than ten times its original size while building the finest reputation for quality in the industry, and Lucas Equine Equipment still carries Mr. Lucas's name today.

How the shop grew into a 70,000-square-foot manufacturer
What began as a three-man welding shop has expanded into roughly 70,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Cynthiana, Kentucky. The company broke ground on a new facility in 1995, relocating with 14 employees, and erected a second building on campus in 2000. Today a team of about three dozen craftsmen builds every product to order, and Lucas Equine is "Made in Kentucky. Trusted in 40+ countries."

What materials and craftsmanship go into every stall

Lucas Equine handcrafts each piece from solid cold-rolled steel and fine hardwoods, with stall-front grills built from welded crosshatch mesh that the company calls "the strongest mesh available for horses today." Customers can specify steel or wood doors, broad color and wood choices, and lower panels in hardwoods such as African Mahogany or Brazilian Cherry. Grill spacing is engineered for safety, with 2¼-inch gaps on ¾-inch grills and 2-inch gaps on 1-inch grills, and finishing is handled by in-house coatings specialists.

Stainless steel continuous hinges support the heavy-duty construction.
How safe are the stall grill spacings?
