Built by a real rodeo cowgirl

Hi Yo Turquoise is the work of designer Misty Korkow, who grew up in a South Dakota rodeo family. Her family's stock-contracting outfit, Korkow Rodeos, has supplied bucking stock to the National Finals Rodeo since the event's beginning. Misty started making bold, beaded turquoise jewelry for herself, and when fellow riders kept asking where they could get it, she turned the hobby into a company, taking time away from a career as a flight attendant to fill orders. Much of her business still happens the old-fashioned way: out of the truck, on the road, at rodeos and Western boutiques across the country. That arena background shows in tack that is built to be seen across a packed grandstand and tough enough to actually be ridden in.

How a Hi Yo Turquoise headstall is made

Every piece centers on genuine stone hand-sewn directly onto the leather using four strands of stainless steel wire, so the beadwork stays put through long days of riding and hauling. You choose your stone: blue turquoise, natural green turquoise, or red coral, each set off with sterling silver beads. The browband headstall comes as either a straight browband or the signature knotted browband; the one-ear and double-ear styles are built on light-colored leather; and a standout brown leopard-print 'hair-on' cowhide headstall puts the stones across the browband for a look nobody else in the warm-up pen will have. Because turquoise and coral are natural stones, color and matrix vary piece to piece, which is part of the appeal: no two bridles are exactly alike.

The matching breast collar

The turquoise breast collar is the centerpiece of the line. It is cut from doubled-and-stitched harness leather, roughly 1 3/4 inches tapering to 1 1/4 inches, finished with beveled stainless steel hardware and the same four-strand hand-sewn turquoise, coral, and sterling silver beadwork as the headstalls. Buy it alongside a matching headstall and your horse wears a coordinated show set from poll to chest. Specify your stone color when you order so the breast collar and bridle pull from the same palette.

Beyond the show ring

The same craftsmanship carries into everyday Western pieces. The turquoise belt is black leather, 1 1/2 inches wide, with rows of silver studwork along the top and bottom and turquoise-and-sterling-silver beads hand-sewn down the center; you simply give your length in inches. Leather dog collars in black or brown bring turquoise and sterling silver to your best buddy, sized by adding two inches to your dog's neck measurement, with pricing that steps up by collar length. And the jewelry that started it all is still here: chunky, named turquoise and freshwater-pearl necklaces and matching bracelets in pebble and round-stone designs, finished with sterling silver bead spacers, toggle and barrel clasps, and chain extenders.

Recognized in the Western press

Hi Yo Turquoise has been featured in The Horsetrader, Western Horseman, and SuperLooper Magazine, and the work has been worn by names from the rodeo and Western-sport world. If you want tack that doubles as wearable art and turns heads everywhere your horse goes, this is hand-made, made-in-the-USA Western flash from someone who lives the lifestyle.

What does Hi Yo Turquoise make?
Hi Yo Turquoise makes turquoise- and coral-beaded horse tack, including bridles, headstalls, and breast collars. Stones are hand-sewn onto quality leather with sterling silver beads, so your horse commands attention everywhere he goes. They also make belts and dog collars.
What stone colors can I choose for my bridle or breast collar?
You can choose blue turquoise, natural green turquoise, or red coral, each paired with sterling silver beads. Colors shown on the site are approximate since browsers vary slightly. The same color options apply across the headstalls and the breast collar.
What headstall styles are available and what do they cost?
Hi Yo Turquoise offers a Browband Headstall for $175.00 (straight or knotted browband with hand-sewn natural stones), a One-Ear Headstall for $130.00 in light-colored leather, and a Cowhide Headstall for $190.00 in brown leopard-print 'hair-on' cowhide. The cowhide headstall is a real stand-out, with the stones hand-sewn onto the browband.
Tell me about the Turquoise Breast Collar.
The Turquoise Breast Collar is $250.00 and made of light-colored leather, 1 1/2 inches wide. Blue turquoise, green turquoise, or red coral stones with sterling silver beads are hand-sewn onto the collar using 4 strands of stainless-steel wire.
How are the turquoise stones attached?
On the knotted browband headstall and the breast collar, the natural stones are hand-sewn using 4 strands of stainless-steel wire. On the cowhide headstall, the stones are hand-sewn onto the browband.
Does Hi Yo Turquoise make anything besides horse tack?
Yes. Beyond bridles and breast collars, Hi Yo Turquoise also makes belts and dog collars. The shop has even crafted turquoise jewelry for people.
Where is Hi Yo Turquoise located?
Hi Yo Turquoise is based in Jarrell, Texas. It is run by Misty Korkow-Cooper.
How do I see the colors and styles or place an order?
You can browse the full range of colors and styles and order through the shopping cart on the Hi Yo Turquoise website at https://hiyoturquoise.bizland.com/store/page2.html. To order by phone or ask about a custom piece, call 512-422-2924.
Is turquoise horse tack from Hi Yo Turquoise good for the show ring?
Yes. Hi Yo Turquoise tack is built to make your horse stand out in the show pen and at events. The bridles, headstalls, and breast collars combine quality leather with hand-sewn blue turquoise, natural green turquoise, or red coral stones and sterling silver beads, so every head turns when your horse walks by. As the shop puts it, Hi Yo Turquoise puts the show into showing your horse. If you want beaded show tack with genuine stones rather than mass-produced bling, a knotted or straight browband headstall paired with a matching turquoise breast collar gives you a coordinated, eye-catching show set.
Can I get a matching turquoise headstall and breast collar set?
You can. Because the same three stone options apply across the line, you can pair any headstall with the Turquoise Breast Collar in the same color. For example, a knotted or straight browband headstall in blue turquoise with sterling silver beads coordinates with the matching $250.00 turquoise breast collar, which is light-colored leather, 1 1/2 inches wide. Choosing one consistent stone color, whether blue turquoise, green turquoise, or red coral, gives you a unified, professional-looking turquoise tack set for showing or trail riding.
What kind of leather is used in Hi Yo Turquoise bridles and breast collars?
Most pieces use quality light-colored leather. The One-Ear Headstall is made of light-colored leather, and the Turquoise Breast Collar is light-colored leather cut 1 1/2 inches wide. For riders who want something more distinctive, the Cowhide Headstall uses a brown leopard-print hair-on cowhide that is a real stand-out, with the turquoise or coral stones hand-sewn onto the browband. All of the leather goods are finished with genuine turquoise or coral stones and sterling silver beads.
Are the stones real turquoise and coral, and how durable is the beadwork?
Hi Yo Turquoise uses natural stones in blue turquoise, natural green turquoise, and red coral, accented with sterling silver beads, not plastic or painted imitations. The beadwork is built to hold up to real riding: on the knotted browband headstall and the breast collar, the stones are hand-sewn using 4 strands of stainless-steel wire, and on the cowhide headstall the stones are hand-sewn onto the browband. That stainless-steel wire construction is what lets this beaded tack be used and shown rather than just displayed. Note that stone colors shown online are approximate, since browsers vary slightly.
How much does Hi Yo Turquoise tack cost?
Current pricing on the core pieces is straightforward: the Browband Headstall, available as a straight browband or a knotted browband, is $175.00; the One-Ear Headstall is $130.00; the brown leopard-print hair-on Cowhide Headstall is $190.00; and the Turquoise Breast Collar is $250.00. Each price includes the hand-sewn natural turquoise or coral stones and the sterling silver beads. For belts, dog collars, custom pieces, or current availability, it is best to contact the shop directly.
Does Hi Yo Turquoise make matching turquoise belts and dog collars?
Yes. In addition to bridles, headstalls, and breast collars, Hi Yo Turquoise also makes turquoise belts and turquoise dog collars, and the shop has even crafted turquoise jewelry for people. That means you can match your beaded horse tack with a coordinating belt for yourself or a collar for your dog in blue turquoise, green turquoise, or red coral with sterling silver beads, giving you a complete handcrafted turquoise look from the same maker.
Who makes Hi Yo Turquoise tack and where is it made?
Hi Yo Turquoise is a hands-on, maker-direct shop run by Misty Korkow-Cooper and based in Jarrell, Texas. Each headstall, breast collar, belt, and dog collar is handcrafted, with the natural turquoise or coral stones and sterling silver beads hand-sewn onto quality leather. Buying maker-direct means your beaded show tack is built one piece at a time rather than coming off a factory line, and you can reach Misty directly to ask about stone colors, styles, or a custom request.
Who is the designer behind Hi Yo Turquoise tack and jewelry?
Hi Yo Turquoise is designed and hand-made by Misty Korkow, who was raised in South Dakota in a rodeo family. Her family's stock-contracting company, Korkow Rodeos, has provided bucking stock to the National Finals Rodeo since its inception in 1959. Misty began crafting bold beaded turquoise jewelry for herself, and after riders kept asking where she got it, she stepped away from a career as a flight attendant to form Hi Yo Turquoise and fill orders full time. Much of her business still happens on the rodeo circuit and through Western stores and boutiques across the country, so the tack is designed by someone who actually rides in it.
What makes Hi Yo Turquoise tack different from mass-produced show tack?
Every Hi Yo Turquoise piece is hand-made and built around genuine natural stone rather than printed inlays or molded plastic accents. The turquoise and coral are hand-sewn directly onto the leather with four strands of stainless steel wire so the beadwork holds up to real riding, hauling, and long show days. Because turquoise and coral are natural stones, the color and matrix vary from piece to piece, which means no two bridles or breast collars are exactly alike. The result is wearable art for your horse that genuinely stands out in a warm-up pen or grand entry, instead of looking like everyone else's catalog tack.
How is the Hi Yo Turquoise breast collar constructed?
The turquoise breast collar is cut from doubled-and-stitched harness leather, measuring roughly 1 3/4 inches tapering down to 1 1/4 inches, and finished with beveled stainless steel hardware. The stones, your choice of blue turquoise, green turquoise, or red coral, are hand-sewn on with sterling silver beads using four strands of stainless steel wire, the same method used on the headstalls. The harness-leather body and stainless hardware are chosen for strength and a clean Western finish, so the breast collar is built to be ridden in, not just admired. State your preferred stone color when ordering so it coordinates with a matching headstall.
Can I order a fully matched turquoise show set?
Yes. Because the headstalls and breast collar all use the same hand-sewn stones, sterling silver beads, and color options, you can build a coordinated set that runs from your horse's poll to his chest. Choose one stone color, blue turquoise, natural green turquoise, or red coral, and order a browband or knotted headstall together with the matching breast collar so the palettes line up. Be sure to specify the same stone color on each item when you order. A matched turquoise-and-silver set is what gives that head-turning, magazine-cover look in the show pen and the grand entry.
What headstall styles does Hi Yo Turquoise offer?
Hi Yo Turquoise makes several headstall styles so you can match your horse and your personal taste. There is a browband headstall offered as either a straight browband or the signature knotted browband; a one-ear headstall built on light-colored leather; a double-ear headstall; and a distinctive cowhide headstall made from brown leopard-print 'hair-on' cowhide with the stones hand-sewn across the browband. All of the leather styles can be set with blue turquoise, green turquoise, or red coral and sterling silver beads, so you can dial in both the leather look and the stone color you want.
Does Hi Yo Turquoise make turquoise belts, and how are they sized?
Yes. The Hi Yo Turquoise belt is made of black leather, 1 1/2 inches wide, with rows of silver studwork along the top and bottom edges and turquoise paired with sterling silver beads hand-sewn down the center. It carries the same Western flash as the tack and works equally well in the arena or for going out. Belts are made to your size, so you simply provide the length you need in inches when you order. It is a natural companion piece to a turquoise headstall and breast collar set for a head-to-boot coordinated look.
What turquoise dog collars are available and what do they cost?
Hi Yo Turquoise makes leather dog collars set with turquoise and sterling silver, available in black or brown leather. To size one, measure your dog's neck and add two inches for the correct collar length. Pricing steps up by length: roughly 10-inch at $45, 12-inch at $48, 14-inch at $50, 16-inch at $52, 18-inch at $54, and 20-inch at $56. When ordering, state your color preference and the collar size you need. It is the same hand-made turquoise-and-silver craftsmanship found in the tack line, scaled down for your best four-legged buddy.
What turquoise jewelry does Hi Yo Turquoise design?
Alongside the tack, Hi Yo Turquoise designs chunky, named turquoise and pearl jewelry for cowgirls. The line has included large pebble-shaped and round-stone turquoise necklaces with sterling silver bead spacers and toggle or barrel-bead clasps, plus pieces that pair freshwater pearls with a centered turquoise stone. Stones range from light blue to deep turquoise and into natural greens, often with brown and black matrix, and many necklaces include a sterling silver chain extender for adjustable length. Matching bracelets are offered with several of the necklace designs, so you can wear a coordinated set that echoes your horse's tack.
What stone color options are available, and will my piece look exactly like the photo?
Most Hi Yo Turquoise items can be ordered with blue turquoise, natural green turquoise, or red coral, all accented with sterling silver beads. Because these are genuine natural stones, each one has its own shade and matrix pattern, so the color and markings on your finished piece will vary slightly from the photos and from any other piece. That natural variation is intentional and is part of what makes each item one of a kind. When you place an order, specify the stone color you want so your tack, belt, and jewelry all coordinate.
Is Hi Yo Turquoise tack durable enough for actual riding and hauling?
Yes. The stones are not glued on; they are hand-sewn with four strands of stainless steel wire, which is far more secure than adhesive and stands up to the vibration and stress of riding and trailering. The breast collar uses doubled-and-stitched harness leather with beveled stainless steel hardware, materials chosen for working strength, and the headstalls are built on quality leather. While the pieces are show-ring beautiful, they are constructed to be functional tack you can use, not fragile display items. With normal leather care they are made to hold up season after season.
Has Hi Yo Turquoise been featured in the Western press?
Hi Yo Turquoise has earned recognition in the Western and rodeo world. The brand has been featured in The Horsetrader, Western Horseman, and SuperLooper Magazine, and the designs have shown up on riders and personalities connected to rodeo and Western sport. That kind of editorial attention reflects the brand's distinctive, hand-made turquoise look and its roots in an authentic rodeo family. For buyers, it is a sign that this is established, recognized Western tack and jewelry, not a generic import line.
How does the turquoise breastcollar and bridle hold up in the show pen?
These pieces are designed specifically to draw the judge's and the crowd's eye. The combination of genuine turquoise or red coral, bright sterling silver beads, and clean leather catches light and reads boldly from across an arena, which is exactly what you want for a grand entry, a halter or showmanship class, or a barrel run. Because each set is hand-made and the stones are natural, your tack has a custom, one-of-a-kind look that mass-produced show tack cannot match. Pairing a matching headstall and breast collar in a single stone color delivers the coordinated, head-turning presentation that makes a horse memorable.
Where is Hi Yo Turquoise made, and is the tack handcrafted in the USA?
Hi Yo Turquoise pieces are hand-made in the United States by designer Misty Korkow, with roots in South Dakota's rodeo country. The work is done by hand rather than mass-produced overseas, with stones individually hand-sewn onto leather and jewelry assembled bead by bead. The leatherwork on the tack reflects traditional Western harness-leather construction. Buying from Hi Yo Turquoise means supporting a small, rodeo-family-owned American maker and getting a piece built one at a time, which is why the color, stones, and character of each item are unique to you.
How do I choose between blue turquoise, green turquoise, and red coral?
It comes down to the look you want for your horse and your wardrobe. Blue turquoise is the classic, instantly recognizable Western statement and pairs with almost any coat color. Natural green turquoise gives a softer, earthier tone with brown matrix that reads warm and distinctive. Red coral delivers a bold pop of color that stands out dramatically against light leather and dark horses alike. All three are set with sterling silver beads, so whichever you pick, the metal stays consistent and your headstall, breast collar, belt, and jewelry can all be ordered in the same stone to coordinate head to toe.
Can I get a matching belt, dog collar, and jewelry to go with my horse's tack?
Yes, that head-to-toe coordination is one of the best things about the Hi Yo Turquoise line. Because the belts, leather dog collars, necklaces, and bracelets all use the same turquoise or coral stones and sterling silver beads as the headstalls and breast collar, you can order in a single stone color and build a complete look for you, your horse, and even your dog. A blue-turquoise show set with a matching belt for the rider and a coordinating dog collar makes for unforgettable barn-and-arena styling. Specify the same stone color across each item when you order to keep everything matched.
