Stable-Grid System by Oak Hall Farm, LLC
Stable-Grid is an Affordable and long awaited solution to a permanent, solid, permeable ground treatment, which will keep your top layer of choice -forever separated from the lower layer while allowing excellent drainage.

How Did Stable-Grid Come About?

Says owner, Debbie Reed, "As a horse owner in Virginia where the soil is solid clay, I spent an incredible amount of time repairing clay floors. The repairs would only last a few months before the holes reappeared and despite my best efforts- I had zero drainage.

After years of experimenting and working with several manufacturers with numerous products, I found a product that would hold up to horses and keep the material in place, however, this product was extremely costly, so I began to look for a product that had all the benefits of the original flooring system I had found, yet was affordable.

After years of searching it made sense to have engineers design a grid system which was a standard size (18"x24"x1.25"), snapped together quickly and easily, stayed level even with severe pounding, and was made in America (which is good for our economy) and much more cost effective for the end user.

The product, now called "Stable-Grid" is also manufactured using recycled plastic, which can be recycled again. This system can be used for stall flooring, run in sheds, aisles, round pens, arenas, wash racks, walkways, driveways, parking, paddocks, water tub and gate areas, high traffic areas, kennels, storage building flooring, greenhouse flooring, etc. It is the result of years of research and is a fraction of the cost of our competitors! Horse owners love it and I am confident that you will too!

What Advantages Does Stable-Grid Have To Offer?
Stable-Grid provides a permanent solution. The grid actually becomes a part of the natural flooring - as a stabilizer. The base layer and top layer will be permanently separated and unable to move. They are actually good for the environment as well as horses and other livestock. Stable-Grid System offers excellent durability, drainage, traction and comfort. The grid is interlocking which provides a one piece installation. There is no shifting, therefore no maintenance is required to maintain the level surface. Because the product is made of a recycled HDPE polyethelyne, it is good for the environment and is practically indestructible in farm/agricultural environments. Livestock hooves will not harm it - not even severe pawing!

Why Use Stable-Grid Instead Of A Rubber Mat?

Unlike rubber mats, the grids do not trap the wetness in the stall. The bedding stays dryer. Because the top edges of the grid are exposed they actually bear the weight of the horse providing a similar feel to rubber mats but with excellent traction. Because the grids are flush with the fill material, cleaning stalls is a breeze! You will find that tools glide over the surface. Stalls can be cleaned in a fraction of the usual time. Try Stable-Grid System in one of your stalls and see for yourself!

Note: Bedding should be used over the grid just as you would with a dirt floor.

Can You Use Stable Grid For Paddocks and Arenas?

Yes! Stable-Grid provides a permanent separation of the base and top layers. Because it is installed in one-piece, the weight of the horse is dispersed across the entire area. The grids are inseparable; therefore there will be no movement of the fill layer. Paddocks and Arenas will stay level and because of the excellent drainage, they will be usable 365 days per year. They can be used in small areas that have mud issues such as gate areas and paths to and from turn out paddocks in the same manner. In grass areas, grass is able to grow through the grids giving a uniform appearance and because the grids bear the weight of the horses, the roots will not be damaged.

Note: Outdoor installations require a small layer of sand, etc. over the finished application for added traction and protection of the grid.

What About Stable-Grid For Run In Sheds?

Stable-Grid is a wonderful way to keep your Run In Sheds level and dry. They can easily be cleaned out with a flat shovel or tractor blade. The problem of thrush from horses standing in wet run in sheds is often eliminated.

What Exactly Is the Stable-Grid System?

The Stable-Grid System is a permeable, interlocking ground-stabilization grid that creates permanent flooring for horse stalls and other high-traffic equine surfaces. Marketed by Oak Hall Farm, LLC under the tagline "Permanent Flooring for Horse Stalls and Other Uses," it forms a rigid, load-bearing base that locks your chosen top layer in place while letting moisture drain straight through. Instead of fighting mud, holes, and shifting footing year after year, you install the grid once and keep the floor you want.

Who Is Behind Oak Hall Farm, LLC?
Stable-Grid grew out of a real barn problem rather than a boardroom. As owner Debbie Reed explains, she is a horse owner in Virginia where the soil is solid clay that turns to soup in wet weather and bakes hard when dry. After living with the constant cycle of digging out stalls, hauling in fill, and watching it disappear into the muck, she set out to engineer a permanent fix. The company operates out of Richmond, Virginia, and answers directly at (fax ).

How the Grid Keeps Your Footing Where It Belongs

The core promise of Stable-Grid is separation: the grid keeps your top layer of choice forever separated from the lower layer while allowing excellent drainage. In a stall that means bedding, mats, or screenings stay up top and never sink into the subsoil, so you stop replacing footing that vanishes into the ground. Because the structure is permeable, urine and rainwater pass through the cells and drain away instead of pooling, which keeps the surface firmer, drier, and easier to muck.

Where Horse Owners Put It to Work

The "and Other Uses" half of the tagline is where Stable-Grid earns its keep. Beyond stall floors, permeable grid systems like this are used to stabilize paddocks, gateways, run-in sheds, water-trough aprons, wash racks, walkways, round pens, and high-traffic sacrifice areas where mud forms first. Filled with the right material it can also serve as a grass paver or driveway base, giving one product several jobs around the property.

What Goes On Top, and Why It Stays There
A grid floor performs only as well as what fills it, so the choice of top layer matters. Owners typically backfill the cells with materials such as coarse angular sand, crushed stone, screenings, or gravel for a firm draining surface, or with soil and seed when the goal is a grassed area. Because the cell walls confine that fill and resist lateral spreading, the surface stays level and even under hooves and equipment, eliminating the ruts and low spots that plague loose footing.

What is the Stable-Grid System?
It is a permeable, interlocking ground grid that creates permanent flooring for horse stalls and other equine surfaces. The grid keeps your chosen top layer forever separated from the lower layer while allowing excellent drainage, so footing stays level and dry instead of sinking into mud.
Who makes Stable-Grid and where are they located?
Stable-Grid is offered by Oak Hall Farm, LLC, based in Richmond, Virginia. The company can be reached at 804-262-7698, by fax at 804-262-9177, or by email at [email protected].
Who invented Stable-Grid?
Owner Debbie Reed developed it. She is a horse owner in Virginia where the soil is solid clay, and she created the product to provide a permanent, solid, permeable ground treatment after years of fighting mud and disappearing stall footing.
Why did Debbie Reed create the product?
Virginia's heavy clay soil turns to mud in wet weather and bakes hard when dry, which made stall and paddock footing impossible to keep stable. Stable-Grid was her answer: a one-time install that locks the top layer in place and lets water drain away rather than pool.
How does Stable-Grid stop mud in stalls and paddocks?
The grid's open-cell structure is permeable, so urine and rainwater drain straight through instead of collecting on the surface. At the same time the grid physically separates your top layer from the subsoil, so footing cannot churn down into the mud below.
What can I fill the grid cells with?
For a firm, free-draining surface, owners typically use coarse angular sand, crushed stone, screenings, or gravel. If you want a grassed paddock, gateway, or paver area, the cells can be filled with soil and seeded so grass grows through while the grid carries the load.
What surfaces can Stable-Grid be used for besides stalls?
Its tagline is "Permanent Flooring for Horse Stalls and Other Uses." Permeable grid systems like this are commonly installed in paddocks, gateways, run-in sheds, sacrifice lots, wash racks, water-trough aprons, walkways, round pens, and as grass pavers or driveway bases.
Does Stable-Grid drain well?
Yes. Drainage is central to the design. The product is described as a permeable ground treatment that allows excellent drainage, which is what keeps the surface above it firm and dry after rain or daily stall use.
Is Stable-Grid really permanent?
It is marketed as a permanent ground treatment, meaning it is meant to be installed once rather than re-done each season. By holding the top layer in place and draining moisture away, it removes the recurring cycle of digging out, refilling, and leveling that loose footing requires.
How is Stable-Grid installed?
Permeable grid systems are generally laid over a prepared, leveled base, interlocked across the area, and then backfilled with your chosen top material so it fills the cells. For the exact base depth and backfill recommended for your soil, contact Oak Hall Farm directly at 804-262-7698.
Will the grid keep my stall footing from disappearing into the ground?
Yes, that is the core benefit. The grid keeps your top layer of choice forever separated from the lower layer, so bedding, mats, or screenings stay up top instead of working their way down into the subsoil and vanishing.
Is Stable-Grid good for heavy clay soil?
It was created specifically for it. Debbie Reed designed Stable-Grid on Virginia clay soil that turns to soup when wet and rock-hard when dry, exactly the conditions where loose footing fails fastest, so the grid's separation and drainage are aimed at that problem.
Can Stable-Grid be used as a grass paver?
Yes. When the cells are filled with soil and seeded, grass grows up through the grid while the structure underneath stabilizes the ground and bears traffic, making it suitable for grassed paddocks, walkways, and parking or paver areas.
How much does Stable-Grid cost?
Pricing depends on the area you need to cover, so it is quoted per project. Call Oak Hall Farm, LLC at 804-262-7698 with your stall dimensions or paddock square footage to get a quote and a panel count for your installation.
How do I order Stable-Grid?
Stable-Grid is sold directly by Oak Hall Farm, LLC. The fastest way to order or get a quote is to phone 804-262-7698; you can also reach them by fax at 804-262-9177 or email [email protected].
Is Stable-Grid affordable compared with other flooring fixes?
It is positioned as an affordable, long-awaited solution to a permanent flooring problem. Because it is installed once and stops the repeated expense of hauling in fill and digging out mud, the company frames it as cost-effective over the life of a stall or paddock. Confirm current pricing with Oak Hall Farm directly.
Does Stable-Grid work in both wet and dry conditions?
Yes. In wet weather its permeable structure drains water away to keep the surface from turning to mud, and because it locks the footing in place it also prevents the uneven, rutted floors that form when ground bakes hard and shifts. It is built for the full wet-to-dry cycle of a working farm.
