What is the difference between the WINDMASTER grades and the Tuffy Windscreen?
WINDMASTER is Covermaster's tiered family of windscreens, ranging from the heavy-duty WINDMASTER EXTREME and WINDMASTER PRO down to the lighter WINDMASTER LITE and breathable WINDMASTER KNIT, plus a WINDMASTER SOLID for maximum privacy and a WINDMASTER DIGITAL PRINT for custom graphics. The Tuffy Windscreen is a separate, popular value line built from Covermaster's exclusive Vipol Matrix mesh. Choosing between them comes down to how much wind you need to block, how much durability you want, and your budget. Covermaster's team can recommend the right grade for your arena or barn.
What fabric are Covermaster wind and barn screens made from?
The screens are made from high tensile-strength fabrics including polypropylene and vinyl-coated mesh. The Tuffy Windscreen specifically uses Covermaster's exclusive Vipol Matrix Material, a super-durable mesh of tightly woven micro-fibers. All of the fabrics are ultra-violet resistant so they hold up to long-term outdoor sun exposure.
Do the screens come in open weave or closed weave?
Both. Open-weave panels let a portion of the wind pass through, which relieves pressure on the screen and its supports so the panel does not billow or strain the fence in storms. Closed-weave (solid) panels block the most wind and provide full privacy and a clean visual backdrop. Covermaster offers various weights and grades in each style so you can match the screen to your site's wind exposure.
What are the standard sizes and heights?
The screens can be ordered in standard or fully custom sizes to fit any fence run or arena wall. The Tuffy Windscreen is stocked in standard heights of 6 feet and 9 feet. For non-standard runs, custom dimensions are available, so contact Covermaster with your measurements for an exact fit.
What colors are available?
The Tuffy Windscreen alone offers twenty color options, including Beige, Black, Brown, Burnt Orange, Gold, Green, Grey, Kelly Green, Maroon, Midnight Green, Navy, Orange, Purple, Red, Royal Blue, Scarlet, Sky Blue, Vegas Gold, White, and Yellow. Standard Color is also available. This lets you coordinate the screen with your barn, arena, or team colors.
Can I put my barn name, logo, or a sponsor message on the screen?
Yes. Covermaster can add custom logos, lettering, graphics, or messages directly onto the panels. For full-color artwork, the WINDMASTER DIGITAL PRINT option supports multi-color imprinting, which is ideal for barn branding, arena signage, or sponsor banners at competitions. Provide your artwork and the Covermaster team will advise on sizing and reproduction.
How do the screens attach to a fence or arena?
The panels are built with brass grommets and attach to existing fence rails or arena framing using zip ties through the grommets or along tension cables. On the Tuffy Windscreen, grommets are installed every 18 inches for secure, evenly spaced mounting. Covermaster also offers various windscreen installation accessories to complete the setup.
What is Vipol Matrix Material?
Vipol Matrix is Covermaster's exclusive mesh fabric used in the Tuffy Windscreen. It is a super-durable material made of tightly woven micro-fibers that gives the panel strength while offering more sun UV resistance. The Tuffy panels are also finished with double-needle lock stitching, which eliminates the thread-unraveling problem common to cheaper screens.
Do the screens provide shade and rain protection too?
Yes. While the primary purpose is wind and noise reduction, the screens also help with sun shading and shield against blowing rain and dust when installed on open-sided covered riding arenas. Solid and heavier grades provide more coverage, while open-weave grades prioritize airflow. This makes them a versatile, multi-season improvement for an equestrian facility.
Will a windscreen help calm nervous or spooky horses?
It can. By cutting wind, reducing outside noise, and blocking distracting sightlines beyond the arena, the screens create a calmer, more contained working environment. Many facilities use closed-weave panels specifically to limit what horses can see outside the rail. The reduced noise and visual stimulation can make schooling and competition smoother.
Are Covermaster windscreens UV resistant and built to last outdoors?
Yes. All of the screen fabrics are ultra-violet resistant, which is essential for products that stay mounted outdoors year-round. The Tuffy line offers added sun UV resistance and uses double-needle lock stitching to prevent seams from unraveling. Heavier grades such as WINDMASTER EXTREME and WINDMASTER PRO are built for the most demanding, high-exposure installations.
Who is Covermaster and how long have they been in business?
Covermaster, Inc. has manufactured protective surface covers since 1969, giving it more than five decades of experience. The company is a preferred supplier to groundskeepers at sports fields and stadiums around the world, known for arena raincovers, turf blankets, padding, and windscreens. They state a full commitment to customer service, product innovation, product excellence, and full product support.
Where can these screens be installed besides arenas?
Covermaster windscreens are designed for open-sided covered horse riding arenas, equestrian centres, and horse racing tracks, and they work equally well along barn fence lines and property perimeters. They are commonly used to define boundaries, hide storage or unsightly fencing, and improve the overall appearance of a facility. Custom sizing lets them adapt to almost any run of fence or wall.
How do I get a quote or place an order?
Contact Covermaster directly to discuss your project. The toll-free number is 1-800-387-5808, the international line is +1-416-745-1811, and the European line is +44 (0) 2038 685082. You can also email
[email protected]. Have your fence or arena dimensions, desired grade, color, and any logo artwork ready so the team can prepare an accurate quote.
What windscreen grade should I choose for a very windy location?
In high-wind areas, an open-weave grade is often the smarter choice because it lets some air pass through, which relieves the sail load and protects both the screen and the fence from storm damage. For privacy without the full wind block, the breathable WINDMASTER KNIT is an option, while WINDMASTER EXTREME provides maximum durability. Covermaster's team can match the weave and weight to your specific wind exposure.
Is there a windscreen option for maximum privacy and a solid backdrop?
Yes. The WINDMASTER SOLID windscreen is designed for a closed, solid surface that delivers maximum privacy and a clean, uniform backdrop, which is popular for show arenas and property lines. It blocks the most wind and outside sightlines. If you also want branding on that solid surface, the WINDMASTER DIGITAL PRINT option can add full-color graphics.
Can the screens be customized to non-standard arena dimensions?
Absolutely. In addition to standard sizes, Covermaster makes screens in fully custom dimensions to fit unusual fence runs, tall arena walls, or specific panel layouts. You provide the measurements and the desired grade, color, and any printing, and they build to fit. This made-to-order flexibility is one reason facilities of all sizes use Covermaster.
