What is the Animalintex® Poultice Pad and what's in it?
The Animalintex® Poultice Pad by 3M is a convenient, ready-to-use poultice that comes in a pad, not a bucket. This unique poultice contains a mild antiseptic, boric acid, along with tragacanth, a natural poulticing agent.
What can I use the Animalintex® Poultice Pad for?
Used as a hot poultice it's indicated for abscesses, boils, infected and dirty wounds, cracked heels, thorns, laminitis, seedy toe and corns; used as a cold poultice it's for strains, sprains, sore shins, bruises, and capped hocks and elbows. It can also be applied to the hoof after training to help cool down and condition it, or used as a dry dressing over open wounds and as pressure padding.
Can the Animalintex® Poultice Pad be used on dogs?
Yes. It is indicated for use on horses and dogs, but it is not recommended for cats. It aids in wound healing, relieves minor stiffness and soreness, absorbs exudates, provides a moist, clean healing site, and cushions sore areas.
What is Gamgee® Highly Absorbent Padding used for?
Gamgee® Highly Absorbent Padding is a hospital-quality 100% cotton roll with a non-woven, durable cover, used as a wound dressing, protective padding, or for warmth and insulation. Its non-woven, low-adherent cover helps prevent the bandage from sticking to the wound and keeps cotton fibers out of the wound site, and it stays strong even when wet. Unlike the poultice pad, Gamgee is indicated for use on horses, dogs and cats.
When would I reach for Gamgee® padding specifically?
Gamgee is well suited as a surgical or wound dressing over open, infected and discharging wounds, for limb immobilization, and for warmth and insulation to keep tendons and muscles warm when exercising, eventing and traveling. It also works as economical, durable, reusable stall and shipping wraps and as part of a first aid kit.
