The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System has been referred to as "the best kept secret in equine therapy".

What Makes Molly Different?

Molly Wells is the most active and most requested Equine Therapist and Equine Instructor in the world for the animal calibrated Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System, and has been named the Top Ranked ATS Instructor annually since 2008. Molly Wells comes from an athletic background. She incorporated her athletic knowledge and experiences into her business, Equinessence, which started in 2002. Her goal in the equine athletic world was to optimize the level of performance, extend the career life of equine athletes, and allow those with career threatening conditions and injuries to recover and continue to compete. Currently, Molly is the most active and most requested Equine Therapist and Equine Instructor in the world for the animal calibrated Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System.
She currently owns and competes on two horses, Go Be Quick (Quickie) and DD Sunday Society (Sunday). Molly achieved one of her dreams in 2007 by earning her Wpra card (Women's Professional Rodeo Association) with Quickie. Both Quickie and Sunday are personal testaments of Molly's work, and the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System. They both have chronic conditions that are typically thought of to be career ending in the equine world however, that has not been the case with these two exceptional horses.

Is It True That Molly Was Able To Heal Her Two Champion Horses With 75% Faster Recovery Using The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System?
Yes...In 2009 her champion barrel racing horse, Quickie suffered a fractured coffin bone after falling during a run, and previous to that incident was also diagnosed with side bone (a chronic condition in both front feet). Molly quickly implemented her rehabilitation program and Quickie recovered 75% faster than the original prognosis.

In 2011 her horse champion barrel horse Sunday suffered a bone chip in his stifle during one of his runs. Through extensive diagnostics, he was diagnosed with OCD in both stifles (a degenerative condition that is irreversible). After surgically removing the chip the Veterinarian also found further damage to his meniscus. Along with outstanding veterinary care, Sunday underwent Molly's rehabilitation program. He was cleared for training in a fraction of the expected time and returned to barrel racing. The following season he was also diagnosed with ring bone (an arthritic condition of the pastern joints on the front end of the body). Now aware of his chronic conditions, Molly keeps him on a consistent treatment program and continues to compete on him. Sunday remains sound, strong, and healthy.

What Is The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System?

The Electro-Acuscope is a highly sophisticated electronic medical instrument which is designed to scan and treat many types of painful conditions. It is one of a class of electrical stimulators called Tens (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). Tens means that the instrument uses electricity to reduce pain by stimulating the nervous system of the body without puncturing the skin in any way. The Myopulse, companion instrument to the Acuscope, gently stimulates the muscles, tendons and ligaments, reducing spasm and inflammation, and strengthens tissue that has been damaged by traumatic injury. Together they comprise the most technologically advanced and effective electronic physical therapy equipment available in health care today.

How Do These Instruments Work?

The Acuscope and Myopulse establish a two-way communication between their own circuitry and the electrical signals from the area of the patient's body being treated. Using biofeedback technology, they measure such things as tissue conductivity and cell capacitance (the capacity of cells to hold an electrical charge). Generally, tissue conductance is very low in an area of chronic pain and abnormally high in areas of inflammation. In order to correct abnormalities, the treatment introduces gentle currents in waveforms similar to the body's own electrical signals. The Acuscope is programmed to generate the current pulse which damaged nerve tissue requires in order to return to a normal, pain free state. The Myoscope sends corrective signals specific to muscle and other connective, contractile tissue so that the cells can begin the work of self-repair.

How Much Electricity Does The Acuscope or Myopulse Produce?

The amount of electricity generated by the instruments is measure in micro-amps (millionths of an amp), and extremely tiny amount of current that is equivalent to what the body produces naturally. It has been scientifically proven that this low level of current produces the most beneficial effect on the body's cells. Both instruments produce electrical signals in patterns similar to and compatible with that which is produced by the body's own normal, healthy cells, the level of energy which is constantly flowing through every living person and animal.

How Does The Electro-Acuscope Reduce Pain?

During treatment, the Acuscope introduces mild electrical current into the cells of the body in order to return the tissue to a normal level of electrical activity. While providing beneficial electrical current, the treatment causes the body to improve circulation, produce and more effectively utilize proteins and other nutrients required to cell metabolism and repair. In this way, the instrument assists the body in accelerating the natural self-healing processes. In addition, mild electrical current causes the body to generate chemicals called "endorphins", naturally occurring pain suppressors. The immediate pain relieving results, as well as the long term benefits of an Acuscope/Myopulse treatment, may therefore be considered an electro-chemical response occurring in the involved area at a cellular level.

How Long Does An Electro Acuscope Session Last?

The Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System is able to optimize performance through preventative maintenance programs, provide pain management for chronic conditions, and accelerate the recovery rate for a wide range of injuries by a minimum of 50%. Sessions range from 15-45 minutes, and the number of treatments required is determined by the condition of the animal.

How Many Treatments Will My Horse Need?

The pain relief that follows each treatment of a given area will last longer and longer, and each successive treatment will require a shorter amount of time to be effective. The number of treatments required will depend on the severity and extent of the condition as well as the body's ability to heal itself. Age, general state of health, habits, and even state of mind may influence the length of time required for complete recovery. Somewhere between five and fifteen treatments is the normal average.

Can My Horse Become Resistant To This Therapy (as they can with drugs)?

Unlike other forms of pain relief, such as therapy with certain drugs or higher amperage electrical stimulators, the body does not build up a tolerance to Acuscope treatments. Both with many pain medications and most hi-amp devices, prolonged use requires higher and higher doses of medications or increased time and amounts of electricity to achieve the desired pain reduction effect. With Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse treatments, sessions of shorter and shorter duration produce more dramatic and longer lasting effects, until treatment is no longer required. By definition, this is called the "cumulative" effect.

What If I Would Like A Career As An Electro-Acuscope Therapist?

Animal Therapy Systems is the exclusive distributor of the animal calibrated Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse instruments. ATS is also the founder of the original Animal Acuscope Training and Certification program, and offers the only approved animal training courses by the manufacturer. There is a large demand for qualified Acuscope Therapists throughout the country, as well a demand for Veterinary practices that are offering post-diagnostic physical therapy options. Qualified therapists are those that are using the correctly calibrated instruments and who have been certified by an approved and recognized program.

What Training Certification Program Does Molly Offer For This Career?

What is the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System?

The system Molly Wells uses through Equinessence pairs two FDA-approved instruments that deliver microcurrent — current equivalent to roughly one millionth of an ampere, the same level the body produces naturally. The Electro-Acuscope normalizes the electrical circuitry running through the Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems, while the Electro-Myopulse uses a sinusoidal waveform to target soft and connective tissue directly. Both instruments read the tissue and adjust their output through pre-programmed biofeedback circuitry, so the device responds to the animal in real time rather than applying a fixed dose. Equinessence runs the Animal Calibrated versions, exclusive to Animal Therapy Systems (ATS), which account for the 30–90% difference in cellular function between animal breeds.

Who is Molly Wells, and what makes her work different?
Molly Wells owns and operates Equinessence®, which she founded in 2002, and has been named the Top Ranked Instructor and Authorized Dealer by Animal Therapy Systems every year since 2008. She came up as a competitive athlete — an All-American swimmer who maintained Ncaa Division 1 swimming while earning a psychology degree (animal behavior focus) from the University of Nevada, Reno, before moving into barrel racing and earning her Wpra card in 2007. Her credential stack runs deep: ATS Certified Equine Acuscope Therapist and Instructor, ATS Certified Canine Therapist and Instructor, Certified Equine Body Worker and Myofascial Release practitioner through Equinology, plus National Academy of Sports Medicine PES, CES, BCS, and CNC certifications. In 2012 she developed P.R.O.11®, the only Sports Medicine-specific training program built around the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System.

How does microcurrent therapy actually help an injured horse?

Because microcurrent matches the body's own electrical level, the tissue accepts it efficiently and the instruments help the body normalize the damaged circuitry in nerves and muscle rather than masking pain. Equinessence cites a minimum 50% accelerated recovery rate across a wide range of injuries and conditions, and the work is non-invasive and drug-free. Molly treats Go Be Quick — her own barrel horse who fractured a coffin bone in 2009 — as a case in point: the mare recovered roughly 75% faster than prognosis and placed 5th of 691 entries at the NBHA Las Vegas Super Show on her return. As Charlotte Jorst of Kastel Denmark puts it, “She is the first person I call when a horse gets injured. When she treats, you just know that the lay-up time is going to be reduced significantly.”

Which conditions does Equinessence treat?

The system addresses neuromuscular and musculoskeletal problems across both horses and dogs. The treated list includes bowed tendons, strained and torn ligaments, joint inflammation, osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease (DJD), osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), navicular, laminitis and founder, ring bone, splints, fractures, kissing spine, disc disease, Wobblers syndrome (CVM), Sweeney, pinched and damaged nerves, muscle spasms, edema, wounds, and surgical scars. In one documented stringhalt case, a horse that had not been able to trot in over three and a half years was seen trotting to the gate after nine sessions. Molly works alongside veterinarians, holding that “it takes a team of professionals in order to create a balanced healing environment for the animal.”

What instruments and products can owners buy through Equinessence?

As an ATS Authorized Dealer, Equinessence sells the current 4th-generation Animal Calibrated instruments — the Electro-Acuscope 80T and the Electro-Myopulse 75T (the Myopulse offers dual output to treat two locations at once) — along with the portable Acuscope 85P (no longer in production). Buyers can choose a Professional Accessory Package built for working therapists or a Personal Use Package for individual horse and dog owners that bundles solution, electrodes, cords, and accessories, plus protective cases designed exclusively by Equinessence. Who is Molly Wells?
Molly Wells owns and operates Equinessence, which she founded in Reno, Nevada in 2002. She is described as the most active and most requested Equine Therapist and Equine Instructor in the world for the Animal Calibrated Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System, and has been named the Top Ranked ATS Instructor and Authorized Dealer annually since 2008. She combines microcurrent therapy with bodywork techniques and organic topical products she handcrafts herself.
What does 'animal calibrated' mean and why does it matter?
The Animal Calibrated instruments are versions of the Acuscope and Myopulse that are exclusive to Animal Therapy Systems (ATS) and tuned for animal physiology. This matters because cellular function varies a great deal between species and breeds — Equinessence notes a 30 to 90 percent difference in cellular function between different breeds of animals alone. Calibrating for the animal lets the biofeedback circuitry deliver appropriate microcurrent for that patient.
How does microcurrent therapy work on a horse?
The instruments deliver microcurrent equivalent to about one millionth of an ampere, which is the same level of electrical current the body produces naturally. Because the current matches what the tissue already uses, the body accepts it efficiently and the device helps normalize the disrupted electrical circuitry in injured nerves and muscle. Pre-programmed biofeedback circuitry reads the tissue and adjusts output in real time during treatment.
What conditions can the system treat?
Equinessence treats a wide range of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions in horses and dogs, including bowed tendons, strained or torn ligaments, joint inflammation, arthritis and degenerative joint disease, OCD, navicular, laminitis and founder, ring bone, splints, fractures, kissing spine, disc disease, Wobblers syndrome, Sweeney, pinched or damaged nerves, muscle spasms, edema, wounds, and surgical scars. The therapy is also used for performance optimization and preventative maintenance, not just injury rehabilitation.
How much faster can a horse recover with this therapy?
Equinessence cites a minimum of a 50% accelerated recovery rate across a wide range of injuries and conditions. In one of Molly's own documented cases, her barrel horse Go Be Quick recovered from a fractured coffin bone roughly 75% faster than the prognosis and returned to place 5th out of 691 entries at the NBHA Las Vegas Super Show. Actual results depend on the individual animal, the condition, and the treatment plan.
Is the therapy painful or invasive for the animal?
No. The therapy is non-invasive and drug-free, and the microcurrent it delivers is at the same level the body produces naturally, so it is extremely low. Many horses relax noticeably during sessions. As Molly notes, when horses feel better they perform better, because feeling well is tied to their natural instinct for survival.
Does Molly Wells work with veterinarians?
Yes. Molly actively collaborates with veterinarians and views the Acuscope/Myopulse work as part of a team approach, stating that it takes a team of professionals to create a balanced healing environment for the animal. Dr. Shane Miller, DVM, DIPL. ACVS of Great Basin Veterinary Clinic has described her as determined and passionate about equine sports medicine. This collaborative stance distinguishes her practice from going around the veterinary team.
Can I buy an Acuscope or Myopulse instrument from Equinessence?
Yes. Equinessence is an ATS Authorized Dealer and sells the current 4th-generation Animal Calibrated instruments — the Electro-Acuscope 80T and the Electro-Myopulse 75T — as well as the portable Acuscope 85P, which is no longer in production. The Myopulse 75T offers dual output so two locations can be treated at the same time. Custom protective cases designed exclusively by Equinessence are available for the instruments.
What is included when I buy an instrument package?
Equinessence offers a Professional Accessory Package designed for working therapists with expanded treatment parameters, and a Personal Use Package as a starter kit for individual horse or dog owners. The Personal Use Package includes solution, electrodes, cords, and specialized accessories. Buyers can also add the custom protective cases that Equinessence designs exclusively for each model.
How much does the instrument or a treatment cost?
Equinessence does not list prices publicly. Instead, Molly provides a customized presentation with pricing after a phone or Zoom consultation and a needs assessment to determine which models and packages fit your animal and goals. To get exact figures, contact Equinessence directly at (775) 287-5772 or [email protected].
What are the Equine Relief Products, Black Label, and White Label collections?
These are organic topical products that Molly Wells handcrafts through the Equine Relief Products division of Equinessence. They are formulated to provide relief from discomfort, tension, inflammation, and pain. The Black Label Collection and White Label Collection offer organic relief options for both horses and their owners, complementing the microcurrent therapy and bodywork.
What training or certification does Equinessence offer?
Molly Wells teaches the ATS Acuscope courses nationally and internationally, with tracks for several audiences. Options range from owners who want to care for their own animals, to licensed professionals looking to expand their practices, to candidates pursuing full ATS Certified Therapist status. She also developed P.R.O.11, the only Sports Medicine-specific training program built around the Electro-Acuscope/Myopulse Therapy System.
What are Molly Wells's credentials?
Molly's certifications include ATS Certified Equine Acuscope Therapist and Instructor, ATS Certified Canine Therapist and Instructor, Certified Equine Body Worker and Certified Equine Myofascial Release practitioner (Equinology), and PTS Certified Basic Human Acuscope Therapist. She also holds National Academy of Sports Medicine certifications as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Behavior Change Specialist (BCS), and Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC). She earned a psychology degree with an animal behavior focus from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2000.
Are the instruments FDA approved?
Yes. The Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse are described as two FDA-approved instruments, with the technology originally developed for human use since 1978. FDA approval covers neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions and non-invasive pain management. The animal-calibrated versions adapt this approved technology for equine and canine use through Animal Therapy Systems.
Does the therapy work on dogs as well as horses?
Yes. Molly is an ATS Certified Canine Therapist and Instructor in addition to her equine credentials, and the Animal Calibrated system is used for both equine and canine patients. The Personal Use instrument packages are offered for horse and dog owners alike. Canine applications cover many of the same neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions treated in horses, including arthritis, hip dysplasia, and wounds.
