The Solution Section (FAQ)
Who is K&D Equestrian?
K&D Equestrian was founded in 1983 by K.A. Fomby, and since his passing in 2011 his son K.R. Fomby has continued the family legacy and runs the business today. Their products are developed and tested at the family’s F-Bar Ranch in Gainesville, Texas, and are designed by horsemen for horse men and women. As a horse owner himself, K.R. uses these products every day and describes them as "built Cowboy Tough."
Are K&D pitchforks and rakes really nearly indestructible?
K&D says yes — the bottom line is their pitchforks and rakes last. The rakes and forks are made from a more rigid, high-impact material that gives them strength and durability, and they have been tested in harsh conditions from cold frozen ground to blistering Texas heat. New users are often surprised at how extremely durable and well built they are.
What makes K&D buckets so durable?
The buckets are made from the same high-impact, aircraft-grade material as the forks and carry very high impact ratings. K&D puts them through a strength and durability test on video to demonstrate it. Anything can be broken with the right mindset, but under normal conditions and proper use these buckets last long periods of time without replacement.
What is the difference between the Silver Line and the Platinum Line?
The Platinum Line was designed by professional horsemen for professional horsemen, with a thick-walled, cold-weather-resistant design in high-impact plastic; many clients say these buckets have lasted 15 or more years. The Silver Line buckets are the toughest on the market, made with a durable high-impact material, and are the lighter, more user-friendly choice for transporting feed and water.
Does K&D Equestrian make grooming products too?
Yes. K&D offers a wide variety of grooming products, from brushes to totes, stools, and combs. The two-piece Palm Brush pairs a rigid handle with softer bristles that will not hurt the animal’s skin, the Grooming Stool doubles as a tote and a mounting block and fits a quart bottle of hoof liniment, and the Sweat Scraper sheds water or sweat and also removes loose hair without sharp blades that could damage the coat.
How long do orders take to ship?
K&D uses a standard 4 to 6 week lead time, but most orders actually ship within 10 days of receiving a purchase order. They do not typically do back orders, but they offer drop shipping for a small $5.00 fee. There is also a free shipping program for dealer customers on orders over $1,000, with no case quantities or order minimums.
How do I order from K&D Equestrian?
Just call and they will gladly help you with your order at very reasonable prices. Their equipment is built to last and described as the longest lasting on the market, so once you use it you will not want to buy second best anywhere else. Reach K&D Equestrian at 940-665-7776, email

Who founded K&D Equestrian and what does the name mean?
K&D Equestrian was founded in 1983 by Ken and Doris Fomby in Gainesville, Texas, and the "K&D" stands for Ken and Doris. It began as a family operation and remains family-owned today, with Kenneth "K.R." Fomby Sr. continuing his father's legacy and running the business.
Are K&D Equestrian buckets and pitchforks made in the USA?
Yes. K&D Equestrian products are designed, sourced, and built in the USA, with headquarters in Gainesville, Texas. The company emphasizes "no shortcuts" and "no offshore guesswork," and has manufactured its buckets and pitchforks domestically since 1983.
What is the difference between the Platinum Line and the Silver Line buckets?
The Platinum Line is K&D's heavy-duty tier, built with thick-walled, high-impact construction for harder daily use, busier barns, and setups where replacing weak gear gets old fast. The Silver Line is a lighter, more economical option suited for support roles, backup rotation, and practical barns where moderate use is the norm.
What makes the Platinum Line buckets so durable?
Platinum Line buckets use thick-walled, high-impact construction reinforced with a one-piece perimeter metal ring, and are engineered for cold weather and high-traffic barns. K&D designed them knowing buckets get kicked, dragged, slammed, and dropped, yet still need to keep working year after year.
What is the Mane & Tail Saver flat-back design?
The flat-back bucket profile sits flush against a wall or fence so the bucket does not swing or tip easily. The Mane & Tail Saver design specifically prevents a horse's mane and tail from snagging or tearing during feeding and watering, protecting the horse while keeping the stall setup tidy.
What size is the flagship KD-120 bucket?
The KD-120 Platinum Line flat-back bucket holds 20 quarts and is built for daily feed and water duty in active barns. The KD-120E economy version is an 18-quart, lighter all-weather alternative for less demanding use.
What forks and rakes does K&D Equestrian make?
K&D builds a full line of stall tools including the KD-115 Stall Fork ($19.99), the lightweight KD-140 Kiddie Fork (from $15.99), the KD-135 Mini Fork, and the KD-139 Mini Trailer Fork. They also sell replacement fork heads, rake heads, and handles so a worn tool can be rebuilt rather than replaced entirely.
What colors are available for K&D forks?
Forks and rakes come in Black, John Deere Green, Lime Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Royal Blue, Teal, and Yellow. K&D also offers eye-catching Sparkle finishes in Blue, Green, Purple, Red, and Teal, plus a discounted Factory Second random-color option.
Can I buy just a replacement head or handle for a worn fork?
Yes. K&D sells replacement components separately, including Stall Fork Heads starting at $12.00, Rake Heads at $12.99, a Replacement Handle at $9.99, and Mini Fork Replacement Heads from $12.99. This rebuild-don't-rebuy approach extends the life of your tools and reduces waste.
What feeders and feeding accessories does K&D offer?
K&D's feeder lineup includes the KD-121 Platinum Line Feed Tub (from $15.99), the KD-136 Platinum Line Corner Feeder (from $16.99), the KD-168 Platinum Line Pan Feeder ($18.99), and the KD-172 Mineral Feeder. The KD-122 Feed Saver Ring ($7.99) drops into a feeder to cut grain waste, and corner feeders free up stall space for cleaner organization.
What is the F-Bar Ranch and why does it matter?
The F-Bar Ranch is K&D's family ranch in Gainesville, Texas, where products are field-tested in real working conditions. K&D tests gear there the same way it gets used in training barns, boarding facilities, and working ranches, so durability claims are proven before products reach customers.
Does K&D Equestrian offer a guarantee or returns policy?
Yes. K&D stands behind its products with a straightforward promise: "If it is not right, we will make it right." The company describes it as a real returns policy backing gear that is meant to be used hard and trusted year after year.
