A unique combination of recycled rubber and high strength polyurethane binder is the base and a specially formulated Polyurea top coat exclusive to Equi-Turf™ is the top coat, or wearing layer.

Is Equi-Turf™ Easy To Keep Clean And Sanitary?

Yes! The surface is completely sanitizable promoting a bacteria-free surface. It is totally resistant to highly toxic and acidic fluids, including urine. Maintenance is very simple. Common, household chemicals and disinfectants, with the exception of bleach, are recommended for use on the Equi-Turf™ surface. Although it is not required, power washing (do not exceed 1500 psi) will improve the aesthetic appearance of the surface. This may be done 1 to 2 times per year. For stain removal, the use of a commercial or household detergent soap that is non-caustic, non-acidic or solvent-based, mixed with warm water is recommended. Cleaners and disinfectants NOT available over-the-counter are prohibited under the 5 Year Warranty unless express written approval from Equi-Turf™, Inc.

Can I Use Equi-Turf™ For Flooring and Walls Of My Horse Trailer?

You BET! Equi-TurfTM is ideal for horse trailers as well. Aiding in transport, this surface allows not only comfort but safety. Added grit to the floor surface ensures stability and sure-footedness. The Equi-TurfTM surface, once again, is permanent, non-porous, seamless and completely sanatizable. Most trailers of today are made from aluminum, Equi-TurfTM can be sprayed up the walls as well as the floor to help protect your trailer investment from corrosion due to horse urine. Although, significantly beneficial, surprisingly enough, Equi-TurfTM does NOT add much to overall trailer weight."

Is Equi-Turf™ Easy On Hooves and Horses With Arthritis?

Absolutely! The Equi-Turf™ surface has been proven to be beneficial on the body reducing stress on joints and arthritis common to horses standing in hard and uneven stalls. What Is The Recommended Thicknesses For Stalls or Veterinary Facilities?

Traditionally, a ½” surface is recommended for aisle ways; 1” surface for box stalls/standard areas; 1.5” – 2.5” for special procedures/induction and surgical/recovery stalls, foaling stalls, wash racks/grooming stalls. Depending on the application, the surface will be custom-designed to accommodate drains, doorways, and any other specific needs, as thin as 3/8”. Cushion can be as customized to the customer's wishes, depth and softness.

What exactly is poured-in-place Equi-Turf™ flooring?

Equi-Turf™ is a poured-in-place, seamless, non-porous rubber surface installed permanently at your facility rather than laid down as separate mats. The system is built in two layers: a bottom cushion layer of recycled industrial rubber bound with a high-strength polyurethane binder, topped by a specially formulated 2-component Polyurea wearing surface. Because it is poured as a single continuous floor, there are no seams, gaps, or mat edges for urine, blood, and bacteria to hide in.

Why Polyurea instead of ordinary polyurethane?

The founder is explicit that the top coat is Polyurea, not polyurethane: "My original product started out as a polyurethane product and did not withstand highly acidic fluids therefore I went back to the drawing board and developed the specially formulated Equi-Turf™ polyurea surface." Polyurea is resistant to urine and ammonia, is both antifungal and antibacterial, and will not break down over time the way polyurethane does. Its high elongation property gives the floor elasticity that flexes under hoof pressure instead of cracking.

How a cushioned, slip-resistant surface protects horses
The cushioned rubber lets the hoof sink slightly for sure footing, reducing slips while increasing circulation and easing stress on joints. That makes it especially valuable for elderly, injured, or recovering animals, and for high-risk spaces like recovery rooms, induction and foaling stalls, and wash racks.
