The Solution Section (FAQ)
Why did I.C.E. Products USA add IDENTIFICATION Lead Ropes to the line?
Per I.C.E. Products USA: "Frustrated seeing YOUR lead rope on another horse?" Per the company posture: "You paid for that lead rope! You picked out just the right color, got the length you wanted — and now it keeps appearing with other horses! Everyone apologizes 'Oh.. I didn't know that was yours' (really, it was hanging on my stall!)."
The PERSONALIZED EMBROIDERED Lead Ropes are the answer — beautiful lead ropes in your perfect colors, with your horse's NAME embroidered on, so there can be no doubt who it belongs to.
Who is I.C.E. Products USA — and how did the company start?
Per Sierra View Ranch General Store, LLC: in 2006, a wildfire tore through the Southern California property where Sue and Dan's beloved horses, "Rio" and "Stetson," were boarded. Both homes on the property were reduced to ashes; thankfully no human or horse injuries. Dan describes the situation in one word: "chaotic." Additional fires fueled by Santa Ana winds made fear of natural disasters a reality in their lives.
In 2015 I.C.E. Products USA launched. The first product was the I.C.E. Halter (standard and breakaway styles, with sewn-on I.C.E. form). Soon after came the I.C.E. Clip-on for trail riders. The company's tagline: BE PREPARED • BE REUNITED • PEACE OF MIND IS PRICELESS.
What does "Lead Rope Peace of Mind" feel like — and what's the price?
Per I.C.E. Products USA: "Finally, Lead Rope 'Peace of Mind'. No more 'Oh.. I didn't know that was yours'... while you do that fake smile back — like 'It's ok' — but it's really not — knowing it was on your stall attached to your halter so there is no possible way they couldn't 'know'!"
Pricing starts at just $32. Pricing as quoted is subject to change due to economic factors and material/embroidery-market conditions — confirm current pricing with I.C.E. Products USA directly.
Per Sue/Dan: per the company, the little 'thieves' in your barn will love seeing it too — but they'll be asking YOU where to BUY it. Per the company: "Or, if you like them well enough, give them their very own for a great, affordable present. If not, just send them over to I.C.E. Products USA."
What's ManeStay™ — and why does horse identification matter?
Per I.C.E. Products USA: in case of disaster (fire, flood, tornado, earthquake), you may only have seconds to turn a horse loose to save their life. The question becomes: how do you get them BACK once the disaster is over?
ManeStay™ launched in 2016 after a year of intense research and many conversations with veterinarians, barn owners, and large-animal rescue personnel. Specs:
- Secures to hair in literally three seconds
- I.C.E. form keeps user's info private until needed behind Velcro® closures
- Completed with ultra-fine-point Sharpie® — info is permanent and waterproof
- Every I.C.E. form is Calfire rated
Why visible ID matters: in conversations with large-animal rescue personnel, Sue and Dan learned that "in a field of evacuated horses, those wearing visible ID will be the first to be processed and returned to their families." Feeding evacuated horses is costly and requires many volunteers — rescue teams quickly process easily-identifiable horses first.
What's the I.C.E. UltraLite — and what's the Clip-on for?
Per I.C.E. Products USA, two more products in the line:
I.C.E. UltraLite (developed 2017) — weighing less than three-quarters of an ounce. The aluminum carabiner hooks through a mane braid and can be left in place long term (such as during the area's natural-disaster season). Ideal for riding, camping, transport, and turnout in addition to disaster prep. Many colors. $18.
I.C.E. Clip-on — portable peace of mind. Designed to attach to the saddle or breast collar to keep emergency contact info on your equine. If you're separated on the trail, the Clip-on helps a finder reunite you. The company suggests: "Put one on your horse and another on your belt loop!" Many colors. $18.

- I.C.E. Trail Halter — designed for use UNDER the bridle. Made of 3/4" nylon (less bulky than a standard 1" nylon halter). Tie ring lets you lead or tie the bridled horse/mule. Padded adjustable noseband standard. Note: not recommended for tying an unsupervised animal by itself — could come off over the ears. Horse and Large Horse sizes: $34.
- Full I.C.E. Halter — 3/4" nylon, triple-ply cheeks, double-ply poll strap, rolled throat latch with snap, PVC-padded adjustable buckle noseband. 6 sizes: $42.
- Breakaway I.C.E. Halter — 3/4" nylon, triple-ply cheeks, rolled throat latch with snap, double-ply non-adjustable noseband. What does I.C.E. stand for in I.C.E. Products USA?
I.C.E. stands for "In Case of Emergency." The brand builds visible identification gear so that if a horse is lost, evacuated, or separated from its owner, whoever finds it can quickly contact the family. The phrase mirrors the "ICE" contact convention many people store in their phones for first responders.
How does an IDENTIFICATION Lead Rope actually identify my horse?
The lead rope is hand-embroidered with the text you choose — typically a barn name, the horse's name, or a phone number. Because the information is stitched directly into a tool you clip on the horse every day, anyone who catches a loose horse can read it instantly. There is no app, microchip scanner, or tattoo to decode, which makes reunification faster in an emergency.
What is the lead rope made of?
Each lead is made from super soft 5/8" polypropylene rope. I.C.E. Products USA describes it as "strong and durable yet easy on the hands and never gets stiff." The company notes that the very first rope it made back in 2016 is still in daily use today, which speaks to the material's longevity.
How much does a personalized embroidered lead rope cost?
The base price is $40 for a rope up to 9 feet long, which includes the embroidery and a standard snap. Longer ropes — 10, 12, or 14 feet — add $1.50 per additional foot. Tennessee sales tax applies to orders shipped within the state.
What snap options come with the lead rope?
Three standard snaps are included at no extra cost: a Steel Gray bolt snap, a Bronze bolt snap, or a smaller nickel-plated bolt snap sized for ponies and mini horses. Premium upgrades include a Solid Brass bolt snap (+$4), a nickel-plated bull snap with trigger (+$3), and a 20" chain-and-snap combo (+$7). A no-snap loop option is also available.
How many rope colors can I choose from?
You can choose from 30 rope colors of 5/8" poly rope. The wide palette lets you match a barn's colors, a discipline, or simply a personal favorite. Owners are encouraged to pair the rope color with a contrasting embroidery thread so the lettering stays easy to read.
What embroidery font styles and character limits are available?
There are three font styles: Block ALL CAPS (up to 8 characters/spaces), Block Upper/Lower Case (up to 15 characters/spaces), and Billboard style (up to 18 smaller characters/spaces). Adding an optional embroidered heart reduces those limits slightly — for example, 6 characters in Block ALL CAPS with a heart. Nearly any thread color is available except metallics.
Who founded I.C.E. Products USA and where are they located?
The company is family-owned and operated by founders Sue and Dan, doing business as Sierra View Ranch General Store, LLC. They are based in Dunlap, Tennessee, with a mailing address of 15115 Rankin Ave., Suite 101, Dunlap, TN 37327. Manufacturing began in 2015 after years of research.
What is the story behind the company?
In 2006, a fire struck the boarding facility where the founders kept their horses. Both homes on the property were destroyed, and while no people or horses were lost, the chaos of that night exposed how hard it can be to identify and reunite animals in a disaster. That experience inspired the founders to create safe, durable, secure and VISIBLE identification products, eventually launching I.C.E. Products USA.
How long does it take to receive a custom lead rope?
Because each rope is embroidered and assembled to order, the company asks customers to allow approximately 3 to 4 weeks for production. The made-to-order nature is also why personalized ropes are generally excluded from standard returns. Planning ahead is wise if you need one for a specific show or event.
Can I add a phone number to the embroidery for emergencies?
Yes. Many owners stitch a cell phone number — alone or alongside a name — so first responders or a good Samaritan can reach the family directly if the horse is found. The Billboard style allows up to 18 characters, which accommodates a phone number with formatting. This turns an everyday lead into a piece of emergency identification.
Does I.C.E. Products USA make other identification products besides lead ropes?
Yes. Their flagship is ManeStay, a 1.7 oz polycarbonate tag that clips into a horse's mane or tail in about 3 seconds and holds your written emergency contact info. They also offer the I.C.E. UltraLite, I.C.E. Clip-on, I.C.E. Halter ID, breakaway halters, and a trail caveson, all aimed at quick, visible identification.
Do they make leads for dogs too?
Yes. The same 5/8" poly rope, 30-color palette, and made-to-order embroidery are offered as dog leads and dog slip leashes, in both solid and multi-color rope. Multi-animal households can match their horse and dog gear. I.C.E. also offers an I.C.E. Collar ID for dogs in two sizes.
How can I add extra customizations like a heart or leather popper?
Beyond font and thread color, you can add an embroidered heart to the design, or a leather popper in Medium Brown, Dark Brown, or Black for $5. Some extras, like the leather popper and the 20" chain/snap combo, require contacting the company directly to set up. This lets you tailor the rope's look and handling feel.
How do I order or contact I.C.E. Products USA?
You can order online at iceproducts.net or contact the family directly by phone at 805.231.5305 or 805.816.8759. Email inquiries go to
[email protected], and mail can be sent to 15115 Rankin Ave., Suite 101, Dunlap, TN 37327. They are happy to discuss custom requests before you order.
Why choose embroidered ID over a microchip or tattoo?
Microchips and lip tattoos require specialized scanners or trained personnel to read, which slows reunification during a chaotic emergency like a wildfire, flood, or barn fire. An embroidered lead rope is visible to anyone at a glance and needs no equipment. I.C.E. positions its visible ID as a complement to permanent methods, not necessarily a replacement, so the horse can be identified immediately on the scene.
Is the lead rope American-made?
Yes. I.C.E. Products USA emphasizes high quality, durable American-made products, and the personalized ropes are hand-embroidered and assembled by the family business in Dunlap, Tennessee. The company has produced nearly 3,000 of these ropes since 2016. Buying supports a small, family-owned operation rather than mass-imported tack.
