What Makes Total Equine® Different?

Total Equine® was developed from science and experience and first produced in 2000. The nutrient levels are based on what has been learned through scientific research over the last 40 years. The physical form of extrusion and the specific ingredients are what horses, mules and donkeys need to maximize health, attitude and performance.

The base of Total Equine© is alfalfa hay, which gives it the odor and flavor equines love. The palatability is excellent. The fiber level supplies 70 – 80% of the equines needs for a safe ration. When fed at 4.00 lb. per 1,000 lb. body weight, Total Equine© provides the nutrients required by mature equines when fed with adequate quality roughage

Total Equine® Essentials

Total Equine® Essentials is formulated to provide the essential minerals and vitamins that an equine requires as well as the level of Ascophyllum nodosum for maximum blood flow and nerve health in a 1.0 lb. per day feeding rate. It provides the same level of micro nutrients as 4.0 lb. of Total Equine™ or Total Equine© LNSC. Total Equine™ Essentials is formulated to reduce to a minimum the amount of NSC in the ration. This makes it safe for all equine including Insulin Resistant horses.

"Total Equine® really made a difference in the horses attitude. They are much calmer with stronger hoofs and their coats are very shiny."

Chad Helms Mounted Shooting Competitor

My horse “Dream” is my best friend and Buddy. He is 15.3 hands and over 1400 pounds. Without warning at the age of 12 he suddenly began to look like an “old man”. He dropped weight, lost his top line and even began to sag in his spine. I was heartsick and confused. Dream had limitless amounts of quality hay, and a great vitamin, supplement program. When I heard of Total Equine® I honestly didn’t think it would be any different, but I decided to try it for a month to see if it would help. I was amazed! In just 30 days, Dream gained back his weight, got back his muscling, his top line filled out and went back to normal. I was literally dumbfounded and overjoyed. Right now I travel 1 hour to get to a dealer who has Total Equine— and you can BET I’ll make that trip every month! I can’t say enough about Total Equine and I am telling everyone about it!

How Do I Transition My Horse To Total Equine®?

Do not feed any grain for 24 hours (hay or grass only) and begin feeding Total Equine® at the level needed. If they do not take to it immediately, put several kibbles in the side of their mouth. Total Equine® will start dissolving in the saliva and become sweet tasting to the horse.

Is Total Equine® Recommended For A Horse That Has Foundered?

Absolutely. Total Equine™ is designed to help eliminate the digestive problems that lead to colic and foundering.

Can Total Equine® Be Fed With Alfalfa?

We strongly recommend high quality alfalfa as a first choice to feed with all of our products if possible.

Is A Joint Supplement Necessary When Feeding Total Equine®?

Most of the time it is not necessary.

Is Total Equine® A Pellet Or A Sweet Feed?

No. Total Equine® is a 100% extruded feed made without molasses or other sugars.

Why Is Total Equine® In A 40 lb. Bag?
Due to the nature of the volume of the extruded feed. A 50 lb. bag was too large to efficiently pallet and ship. Total Equine® is 50-100% more digestible than other feeds which means your horse digests much more of the feed you paid for.

Do I Need To Worm My Horses When Feeding Total Equine®?
Always do a fecal count before worming and make the decision on that basis. Many customers do not worm since starting Total Equine® and their horses are doing well.

Will Total Equine® Cost More To Feed Than Does My Current Formula?
No. Try our feed for six weeks and compare the total feed and hay at the beginning to the end. You should find that your horse eats less Total Equine® and hay making your total feed costs per day lower than your current program.

What sets Total Equine® apart from other feeds?

Total Equine® is an absorbable extruded feed. Many feeds have great ingredients but are not absorbable into the horse's system. Total Equine® was developed from science and experience and first produced in 2000; nutrient levels are based on scientific research over the last 40 years. Total Equine® is reported to be 50 — 100% more digestible than other feeds, which means horses digest much more of the feed.

What's the difference between Total Equine®, Total Equine® LNSC, and Total Equine® Essentials?

Three formulations:

  • Total Equine® — alfalfa-hay-based extruded feed for all equines (horses, mules, donkeys, even zebras). Fed at 4.00 lb. per 1,000 lb. body weight, supplies 70 — 80% of fiber needs.
  • Total Equine® LNSC — formulated for horses with Insulin Resistance or Cushing's Syndrome. Contains 16% Non-Structural Carbohydrate. When fed with hay, provides a ration safe for any horse with IR or Cushing's.
  • Total Equine® Essentials — provides essential minerals and vitamins plus Ascophyllum nodosum for blood flow and nerve health, at a 1.0 lb. per day feeding rate. Same level of micronutrients as 4.0 lb. of Total Equine. Minimum NSC; safe for IR horses.
How do I transition my horse to Total Equine®?

Do not feed any grain for 24 hours (hay or grass only) and begin feeding Total Equine® at the level needed. If a horse does not take to it immediately, put several kibbles in the side of the mouth — Total Equine® will start dissolving in the saliva and become sweet-tasting to the horse.

Is Total Equine® a pellet or sweet feed, and is it recommended for foundered horses?

Total Equine® is 100% extruded, made without molasses or other sugars — not a pellet, not a sweet feed. The base is alfalfa hay, which gives equines an odor and flavor they love. Total Equine® is recommended for foundered horses; it is designed to help eliminate the digestive problems that lead to colic and foundering.

Why does Total Equine® come in a 40 lb. bag, and will it cost more than my current feed?

The 40 lb. bag size is due to the volume of extruded feed — a 50 lb. bag was too large to efficiently pallet and ship. As for cost, total feed and hay costs per day are typically lower than a current feeding program because horses eat less Total Equine® and less hay over six weeks of feeding.
