Horse Shelter-Kit’s, Do It Yourself Horse Barns Deliver Quality & Simplicity
I don’t think anything can beat the personal satisfaction of being able to say that you actually built your own barn or home. By SHELTER-KIT
You’ve heard of Ikea before, I’m sure… where not-so-handy folks can and do successfully build
DIY-furniture. Well, Shelter-Kit takes this DIY concept to the next level. The Tilton, NH based
kit-home company creates barns, garages and even homes, all of which are engineered to exacting quality and precision specifications so that anyone (including you) can in fact, build their own
structure.
So – just how does this actually work? Shelter-Kit products are designed to be buttoned up
quickly and easily – they can be assembled by only two people in 3 -15 days. “The directions are
simple and straightforward - truly,” says Dave Kimball, owner of Shelter-Kit. The structures are
manufactured in their facility to exact requirements, and shipped to all 50 states – and even Canada
and internationally. While some owners do ultimately decide to have a contractor assemble their
Shelter-Kit structure, most opt to build it themselves. “I don’t think anything can beat the personal
satisfaction of being able to say that you actually built your own barn or home,” says Kimball. In
fact, a majority of their customers are women, putting to rest any misgivings that this is “man” territory.
“Our new 36’ barns are perfect for horse and other large animal owners – there’s room for a row
of 12’ stalls on each side of the barn, and a 12’ center aisle, for safely walking and working with
their animals,” says Kimball, who also offers barn kits in smaller sizes. “While we do our best to
design our kits to accommodate most customers’ needs, we also do quite a bit of customization.
We recognize everyone has different specifications, uses for the buildings, and property limitations, so our goal is to make sure everyone has exactly what they need.”
It may seem counter-intuitive that any structure could in fact be efficiently and safely built by non
-builders. In fact, the company was founded in 1970 with the goal to design and produce buildings
primarily for assembly with no prior building experience. The first was a “Unit One” cabin, and
from there, the company expanded into the modular and expandable “Lofthouse”, then on to barn
and garage kits (all the kits come with the necessary materials to build a complete, weather-tight shell).
Aside from bragging rights to having actually built your own barn, there are benefits beyond the
DIY-ego boost. Horses are fragile animals that are susceptible to heat stroke and even catching
cold (especially if they are wet). Having a sound and well made Horse Shelter in your pasture can
save you Vet bills and give you "peace of mind" knowing that your equine friends can get to a place
to shelter them from wind, rain, heat or cold. Horse shelters also provide a safe place of rest.
Savings can be substantial when you build a barn or home yourself, and the quality isn’t compromised with Shelter-Kit (and, there are additional eco-benefits derived from an engineered
building). “In the housing industry, it’s fairly accepted that typically you can only get two out of
three of the “Savings/Quality/Fast” golden triad,” says Kimball. “But with Shelter-Kit, you truly do
get all three… it’s a really great option in this difficult economy.” Your dog just might be envious of the new “horse-house”! To learn more, please visit shelter-kit.com, or call (603) 286-7611.
